The ambiance of the restaurant was great. Service was good, but had to wait a decent amount of time for our entrees. Appetizers were out soon after ordering. The calamari was different, yet delicious. The entrees were ok, not horrible but definitely not authentic.

Tucked in the PP Market, Il Bistro exudes charm and coziness. Great cocktails and a perfect combination of options for salads (don’t miss the chopped salad!), pasta and mains. Quintessential Italian preparations. NY Cheesecake shouldn’t be missed.

We had not been to Il Bistro in a couple of years. We arrived early and sat in the bar to enjoy a glass of wine. We prefer the ambiance of the bar over the restaurant - which is also very nice. We met our waitress Sophia- so friendly and welcoming! We requested that we stay for dinner in the bar area. Food was tasty, plentiful and well- priced. Service and atmosphere were great! Our only complaint is that the food was not as hot as we would have liked. However, we can’t wait to return!

A disappointing 3 out of 5 rating, as I had high hopes for this place (based on the reviews). But quite honestly, the Il Bistro experience was “meh” for us. The ambiance is wonderful once you walk in, alluding to an amazing experience, adding to it the host up front was fantastic. But it came to a screeching halt there. We should have just gone to the bar.

My girlfriend and I were tucked at the far back of the restaurant (not a big deal at all), but it’s in an alcove where it’s noisy (music speakers are aimed in our direction above, and volume was loud). Then the air vents above kept our area so chilly, she had to have her coat on the whole time.

Hot tip: This place is better for parties of 4 or more, where you get seated in the nicer part of the restaurant.

And we always seem to have the luck of getting awkward servers, to the point where it’s an inside joke, and Il Bistro did not disappoint. Again, I guess I expected more, or at least someone more affable and socially on point. And the food? Tasty, but underwhelming, this meal could be purchased just about anywhere.

In short, we will never go back. Unless it’s just to grab a quick drink before a show.

The lighting is so dim we couldn't read the menu.
The restaurant lacks atmosphere and the food was bland and overpriced. I ordered the daily risotto which was mushroom. It was served suspiciously fast (so not made fresh), was luke warm and with very large, uncut mushroom pieces. It was bland. The best selling Bolognese was stodgy and uninspiring.
Our $42 bottle of wine was most disappointing - it wouldn't compete with Trader Joe's $2.99 Charles Shaw.
Overall, a very disappointing visit to a restaurant we've been to a couple of times before.
We won't be back

We were running a bit late for a show after dinner and our server was very helpful getting us out on time but also not making us feel rushed through salad and our entrees. This is our second visit to Il Bistro, and both times the food was delicious and the service impeccable.

Nice list of wine by the glass. I had a Fruili blend. Cioppino was excellent. Service was a bit slow, but we weren't in a hurry and there was a large table near us which may have slowed things down a bit.

We have dined at Il Bistro from many years. Until this visit, we have always been well satisfied with the experience. I'm not sure what the problem was with this visit, maybe it existed with the kitchen staff. At the beginning, the maitre d' was aloof, and not very cordial. We arrived precisely on the time of our reservation. It appeared the entire restaurant was packed and our assigned table was acceptable. Our waiter was new, but accommodating. The wait for our salad was almost one hour. The waiter brought us 2 complimentary appetizers to appease our hunger. Once the main course of pastas arrived, they appeared to have been old leftovers that were heated up in a microwave oven. The waiter and maitre d' were both very apologetic concerning our experience. After all the many years we have dined here, we will still give it another go. Maybe it was an aberration, Sunday evening following a Seahawks game. Very, very disappointing.

Food was very tasty although they subscribe to the “less is more” philosophy- very small portions! Food took an hour to be served. I liked the ambience emanating from the bar area but the noise level made it hard to converse. Next time I think I’ll just opt for the bar at happy hour!

Lived in Seattle for over 30 years and finally ate at Il Bistro. No wonder it is crowded.
Food was fabulous. My girlfriend had the Bolonese and I had the pasta del mare.
Both out of this world.

The food was good but not great, Calimari was a little rubbery but the broth was great. My biggest complaint was our waitress. Although she offered the table next to ours pepper for their salad and Parmesan for lasagna, we were not offered anything. She was also snarky when I asked about the special and clearly irritated when we declined dessert.
The upside is the location.

I ordered risotto and the food portion was ridiculously small. I questioned if they gave me an appetizer size (which still would have been small) but was told no but the server offered to give me a bigger portion or dessert on the house. I choose the bigger portion since I was still hungry which was a much more reasonable size. However, the risotto was extremely bland and disappointing. My husband ordered Chicken Caccatorie which he enjoyed

The ambiance was rather loud to carry on an intimate conversation but the service was excellent.

The only reason I didn't give our experience a 5-star overall rating is that they had run out of lasagne, which my husband really wanted. Other than that, we had a really nice evening. Very romantic low lighting, wonderful service, great food. We'll definitely be back.

The review is two stars on ambiance and service. We were seated at a small table for two next to a large post. It felt claustrophobic and sight lines were limited. The dining room was quite loud.

Service. My friend and I both felt our waiter seemed new, like he didn't really know the menu or wine list very well. He finally suggested a wine but we decided to order a different wine selection, at which time he seemed upset with us. He made very little eye contact after that and was almost curt in his conversation. My friend actually ordered the dessert he suggested to try to get back into his good graces--not the way it is supposed to go when one is the guest and paying the bill!

We ordered the Romance Package because I can never tell my wife how much I love her and having rose petals and champagne waiting for us did a great job of setting our mood for the evening. The food was very good overall but there were a couple of missteps. Unfortunately I interrupted our waiters rhythm as he was starting his presentation and he completely missed that we would like to start with bruscheta which became apparent when we received our salad first. This turned out not to be a major issue because I had forgotten they serve warm bread as a courtesy. (Personally I would ask if you would prefer butter or olive oil when serving bread but that is a rarity in restaurants). I ordered the scallops, which were the seafood special, and they were over charred which on its own would make them less appealing but it turned out it allowed them to hold up better to the red wine I ordered to better compliment my wife's chicken cacciatore dish. The waiter was properly attentive without hovering and was very engaging. We will return as it was overall a lovely start to our evening.

Il Bistro is a charmingly located restaurant with apparent history, cosy ambience and very friendly staff. Our last experieince however on Thanksgiivng Friday was rather disappointing. The table we were placed at was terribly uncomfortable with padded seats that had seen better days and for two tall people the angle of the round, corner table did not work at all. Our meal was very mediocre of Petrale Sole which had zero special touches and was greasy and unprofessionally prepared. The Cioppino was also very mediocre and lacking flavor. The appetisers took far too long to arrive and the entrees over an hour. The waiter appeared scared to come over to our table and was avoiding eye-contact so we were left to play Zen games and fortunately enjoy a bottle of Lungarotti wine. Eventually the server did come over along with the two managers who were very friendly and offered comp dessert but we were ready to go at that point. It was such a ‘miss’ for a holiday meal that was not inexpensive and really surprising for an established restaurant. We will most likely look for another restaurant next time we are in Seattle. Lastly, as a former GM of several restaurants I understand the challenges and I also know that honest feed-back is the best recipe for success. Sincerely - H

The food and ambiance at Il Bistro was great. I will say, that I felt rushed, throughout the entire meal. They were friendly about it, but no more did I put my fork down, then someone was there to grab my plate. My HH experience was better.

We were celebrating my friend's birthday. We were highly referred by the Concierge at our hotel so we made a reservation. We were seated at a very awkward table next to a large group.

Our entire experience was unpleasant, from the very beginning. Our server immediately made us feel rushed, and as if we were an imposition. He never once made eye contact with us.

The small, two-top table was apparently on the main thoroughfare for all of the servers and bussers, because they constantly walked through the narrow space between us and the next table, narrowly missing our heads with the trays they were carrying. The bussers continually bumped into us, then gave us dirty looks, as if it were our fault, and we were in the way. At one point, one of the bussers dropped something on me, and never even acknowledged it. It was if the entire staff resented us being not only in the restaurant, but also resented us being seated in that spot. Let me be clear—we did not request that table, it’s the table we were shown to by the host.

The restaurant was busy, but that is no excuse for how we were made to feel. I have also, never, ever not left a tip for the server. On the contrary, given my friend's years in the hospitality industry, our inclination is always to over tip. But we didn’t leave a tip on Saturday night. And, frankly, we felt good about that. He didn’t deserve one.

I know the restaurant business is tough, and can be grueling, and I know that customers can sometimes be very challenging. However, we were polite and cordial. I would not recommend the restaurant.

It was very busy this Monday night. We had a nice drink at the bar before being seated at our table. The server was busy and the tables were packed. We ordered a bottle of wine. It arrived and we drank it all - slowly - even before the appetizer carpaccio showed up. It was another long wait until the salad, and then we ordered another bottle of wine while waiting for our meals. I was really disappointed at how cold the food was. Usually, it was hot and delicious. Even the risotto was chilly! This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but I will think twice about whether I want to come here again.

This was my first time here as I have lived in Seattle for 6 years and probably walked by it 1000 times. Its tucked next to Pikes Place and is a great place for Italian food. The waiters are very attentive, the drinks are on point and the food is great. We will definitely be back soon. I would recommend making a reservation as they book quickly on the weekends and don't usually have openings until 9 pm.
