IL Bel Lago - From the Hill Ratings and Reviews
I brought my best friend here for her birthday dinner. We both love this place. The food here is amazing! Top notch!
Our waiter's name was Eric. He made us feel like we should be in a hurry. He would stop by our table quickly to see how everything was and then quickly go off to the next table. I don't know if he was handling too many tables or what. We were not in a hurry, we were there to have a nice relaxing meal. Again, we have been here before and have NEVER, EVER had a problem with our waiter. Maybe Eric was having an "off night"?!
What Eric lacked, Aldo made up for. Aldo always made sure we had everything we needed and took the time to actually talk with us. We both wished Aldo could have been our waiter instead.
Il BeL Lago-gets a rating of 10. My girlfriend and I visit many of the top restaurants around St. Louis and we score them 1-10. Over the past 2 years we have visited 30 restaurants, some of the ones we scored 10.0 we would go back 2 or 3 times to make sure it was just a "lucky night". Of those 30 times we have dined at il Bel Lago 3 times and everytime we scored them a well deserved 10. The food, drinks and service is outstanding. Tippy 2
Was visiting friends and family in Saint Louis and selected this restaurant for it's location and menu. It really exceeded my expectations. They were so accommodating to our group of 7 cousins and placed us in a niche that allowed us to converse in a quiet area. The server was awesome and the daily specials were delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will plan to eat there again on my next visit.
Had a very good meal. the only problem was there was a person at the next table that was load and she frequently used a words I would not use in front of my kids. We could hear every word she was saying. If I want to hear that I will go to the tavern and not take my wife.
It was a busy Saturday night at 1900. The host and waiters appeared to be stressed. Our waiter was very good, but also overwhelmed. We had ordered a side vegetable instead of a salad, and that was apparently not what they are used to. We had to ask and remind the waiter and it came late. We ordered two of the specials, one veal, one fish. The veal was good, but the fish was dry, and just not very tasty. The wine and dessert were fine.
Basically, I think we just hit the peak rush hour, and it was more than the staff could handle. Overall it was adequate.
We have been here probably a couple dozen times, so obviously highly recommend this restaurant. Tonight, we both had the stuffed swordfish special (stuffed with shrimp and crabmeat) and it was outstanding.
If you like cannelloni, this place has the best.
Once again, service was excellent. No open tables, but not rushed and not slow. Perfect.
A couple glasses of wine, cannelloni appetizer, two salads, two entrees, gelato for dessert, $150 including tip.
We always go here when we want to be certain we will have a good experience.
Classy, soothing interior, without being pretentious. Service was exceptional and owner/manager was unobtrusively present from the beginning to the end of dinner. The house salad was simply delectable. I had the veal special, which was very good, although quite salty for my taste.
Il Bel Ago was not what I expected to find in a suburban strip mall. The service was top notch. The food was delicious. There is a beautiful water wall separating some of the dining areas. Our waiter provided food recommendations to go with the wine we ordered and his recommendation was a perfect pairing. The Caesar salad was great. The stuffed swordfish (a special) was delicious. We split a cannoli for dessert and it was amazing. The only disappointment was the coffee service. There was no turbinado sugar, which would be expected at this level.
We had a private room for our group of 11 which was wonderful. Later in the meal, the group on the other side of our partition became more noisy and it was difficult for us to hear one another as well.
The food was excellent in taste, presentation and creativity. Could not be happier with the meals and the service. Will definitely return.
We had our retirement dinner for our CEO, and they impressed us at every turn. Ask for a alcove in rear of restaurant, they are private but you still feel the vibe from the restaurant. We had a risotto for first course with porcini and some kind of cheese, that was very good. Brett was our server, he really made our boss feel special.
The restaurant brought over a round of Limoncello at the end to toast, the evening could not of been better. Kudos to Bel Lago.
We loved this restaurant the last time we went, but this time it was very disappointing. My husband ordered calamari and smelts (appetizer) which came without any smelts. I ordered a caprese salad which came with two very tiny pieces of cheese and several grape tomatoes cut in halves. OUr entrees were fine, but I am not planning to return.
We were seated immediately, and the servers were both knowledgeable and kind. The specials were excellent, and the recommendations that we tried worked out very well. I would definitely return, especially when we could order a full bottle of wine versus just the glass :).
I, and my significant other, have now eaten at this restaurant 3 times. All of the meals have been excellent.
The ambiance is nice and it's quiet enough that a party of 4 can hold a decent conversation.
I would highly recommend this Italian restaurant for those eating in St. Louis.
