Il Bastardo Ratings and Reviews
IT WAS CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS!! Very disappointing, as we made the reservation to make it to a play. We met there and had to scramble and find somewhere else nearby. Surprised that Open Table was not informed of the closing.
Il Bastardo is a short walk from the Joyce Theater, so it's perfect for a pre- or post-performance meal. My friend and I had not been here before, and we enjoyed our meal. We shared a tricolore salad, capellina primavera, and codfish with olives and tomatoes. No sharing fee, no hassle, and everything was delicious -- as was the house Pinot Grigio. The waitress, Nydia, had a gentle, no-pressure attitude and was a pleasure to speak with. We will dine at Il Bastardo again.
Il bastardo, has a great prefixe menu and excellent Saturday brunch. Unfortunately the last time I visited the food was not good. My spinach wasn't thoroughly cooked, neither the other members of my party. It was a big disappointment for a place that I have come to love.
Everything was great. The prix fixe menu was extended to 9pm so we both ordered that. $15!. for appetizer entree and dessert. All were delicious. Calamari, Caesar salad, pasta with mushrooms, spaghetti bolognese. Service was excellent. Will def return. Right near Irish Rep theater. And 1000 points!
Loved this place been here for brunch a few times. Which is AMAZING. If your celebrating something special with friends. Music is on point, so id the food and vibe. I came here this particular time for dinner the first time. I honestly expected it to be as popping as brunch but it was completely different atmosphere. Moderately quiet and intimate. Low lighting and candle lit. Soon as we walked in we sat down on a friday night at 8pm with a reservation. Not crowded at all. Only thing i didn't like was there was plenty of seats and the hostess out us right by the door. I eventually had to ask to move because the draft from the door opening and closing kept bothering me. They moved us no problem further into the restaurant that was VERY warm. Food was very good drinks were WELL made. So kudos to the bartender. Very big portions of food so definitely worth the money. Waitress was very nice and always checked on us. Food was prepared correctly and came out in a good time. Did not like the bread too much. It was a bit cold and olive oil they gave with bread was entirely to thick, also wish it had a little bit of seasoning in olive oil perhaps oregano?..but to each their own. Other than that loved this place I would definitely return.
Solid pre fixe diner again. Incredible value, but you have to know to ask for it before 6 because they never seem to give the menu unless you ask. Unreal value especially in NYC. The value is one thing, but the food is actually quite good and you don't leave hungry. Give it a try and don't forget to ask for the pre fixe menu if you're there weekdays before 6.
I booked on OpenTable literally hours before the reservation. We walked in early and were seated without the third party; this never happens. Our waitress was personable and even recommend her favorites as we ordered. All went well till check time. The waitress was distracted by a friend who walked in and so we had to wait for the check. I even got up and handed her the credit card on my way to the bathroom. It hadn't been processed even after I had returned from the restroom. Finally it happened as we all started putting in our coats. All went well at the end of the day!
Overall a good experience. Food was great! (best fried zucchini we ever had!!) Initially would have rated the service much lower, as they forgot our appetizer order and started serving the entree immediately. However, they took the entrees back apologizing profusely, and told us the kitchen would expedite the appetizers, which they did. Then the waiter brought us another bottle of the wine we had ordered, on the house. This is what a good restaurant SHOULD do, but I find rarely does anymore. My son has just moved into the neighborhood, and we will definitely go back!
This was our second time and the food is really good, and a good value. A sirloin strip steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked, a ribeye a little thin but also very good -- have the sirloin. Sides of fries, spinach in garlic oil and roasted mushrooms were terrific.
I have to ding them a star on service because our server seemed to pay more attention to her colleagues than us, especially while my drink was getting warm on the bar, but aside from that everyone was very pleasant and attentive.
Went for the first time, the prix fixe dinner menu offered a lot of choices and for an unheard of price. I expected small portions and not great taste, but what arrived was fairly sizable food that tasted great! Ordered the meatballs and chicken piccata. The meatballs were very tasty and a great app size, and the piccata was done extremely well which is not an easy dish, it was a tad small portion but overall excellent. My wife had the NY Strip for a $5 supplement and what arrived was a perfectly cooked well seasoned 18 ounce or better steak! Tiramisu for dessert was A class and all in all an excellent meal for less than what it could cost to go to Fridays. The regular menu prices are typical NYC reasonable, but the deal before 6pm is outstanding.
The food is always great here however you have to ask for everything twice including bread for the table, if you need new silverware, your check, etc.
It's not overly busy so I don't understand why you have to get up from your table to flag down a server and then follow up with them 5 minutes later when they have forgotten about you.
Amazing!! Everything was great only reason I gave it 4 stars was because I had to ask after a while who was my waiter. Should've came and introduced herself to me. Food is amazing this was my second time here my friends really enjoyed. Doing a recap for my birthday this summer 😬
We had the grilled branzino - it was excellent! Came with a celery root puree that was delicious and vegetables of the day.
Pasta were also great, portions large and well priced.
Meal ended with tiramisu which was light and freshly made with mascarpone cheese.
Enjoyed the main courses: Eggplant parm and siciliana pasta dish. The portions were just right and the food was very tasty. Disappointed I could not get a draft of Peroni; the only beer alternatives were bottles. Apple streudel was doughy and the gelato was more like ice than cream. Would have given better food rating if the dessert was better.
This was a lovely place close to the theater show we were attending that same evening.
The calamari was really good and the house wine was nice too. However, the main dishes were only fair. The pasta was really over cooked and the chicken Milanese was really dry and tasteless.
We had a great waiter (Borsh?) and the service was great. I just wish the food had been better.
The food and ambience were fine; the service was terrible. We arrived at 6:00. One person ordered a bottle of wine and was told you were out - at 6:00! He was then told a glass was $12. He ordered chicken parmigiana and got eggplant. His bill included $26 - not $24 - for 2 glasses of wine but he'd only had one. So I'm very hesitant to recommend the place.
LOVE THE CONCEPT OF THE BOTTLE PER PERSON FOR BRUNCH. THE FOOD DEPARTMENT NEEDS HELP. THEY DEFINITELY NEED TO REVAMP THE BRUNCH MENU. IF ITS $50 PERSON, THE MEAL SHOULD BE MORE FILLING. ESPECIALLY IF IM DOWNING AN ENTIRE BOTTLE OF LIQUOR. I HAD THE CHICKEN CLUB SANDWICH WITH FRIES. FRIES WERE AWESOME,HOWEVER THE SANDWICH WAS ALL BREADING AND BARELY MEAT. I WAS STILL HUNGRY AND ENDED UP GETTING A SLICE OF PIZZA ON MY WAY HOME.
