III Forks - Austin Ratings and Reviews
First time eating here and we were so excited to try it. Everything was just ok but not at a just ok price. We started with the lamb meatballs and they were...just ok. Everyone’s meal was fine but nothing special, as were the brussel sprouts and six cheese potato sides. Service was ok, again, nothing special. Dessert was ok and heavy on the coconut. If I were looking for a steak and seafood place in downtown Austin I would opt for Truluck’s or Eddie V’s.
Ordered Pork and Lamb dishes. Both were to be cooked to MW (you can berate me if you want but that's the way we like it) but neither made it that far. The Lamb had to be taken back right away. Unfortunately, I discovered the Pork was underdone the deeper I got into it. The taste of everything was great. Just need it cooked to the right level the 1st time. They were very thick pieces of meat so they should have known to split them for cooking when ordered MW or more.
I was very much looking forward to surprising my fiancé for his bday and they forgot to bring out the cake & candle for desert. I even called earlier in day and made sure they new about the bday cake/candle. , the hosts who answered said he would take care of it. VERY Disappointed , no candle to blow on bday..
Looked forward to our Thanksgiving reservation all week, but was kind of underwhelmed really. It was just okay food with great service. Some things were great like the Tomato soup..but I'm pretty sure they served us dried up stove top stuffing FOR REAL!!! The rest was...just okay. Sort of a let down, but whatever. I'd hoped for a LOT better quality. At least the service was great!
Two adults and two teenagers went for Thanksgiving dinner. Very nice atmosphere. The adults had the Thanksgiving meal and the teenagers both had Filets. We were the last reservation so the Tday sides seemed to have been sitting for a bit (although warmed very well when served to us). I was told that the filets were perfect, and one of the best that they have had (for teens they eat well!). Our bill was over $300 which to me was pricey for what we were served that evening. I will go back for steak though:).
I ate here on a Monday night and it was not crowded, the service was very good. I couldnt give 5 stars for 2 reasons. The broccoli was under cooked, it was hard and difficult to eat. When I chose a glass of wine that should have been in stock , they informed me they ran out. It wasnt super rare or even one that is usually in really high demand. This was dissapointing.
The steak was outstanding, one of the best ive had, cooked exactly as i ordered it. The desert was amazing as well.
Was in Austin for a trade show and seeking a top notch steakhouse for a business dinner. Found III Forks after some web research. So glad I found this gem!
We were warmly greeted by Ernest upon arrival. He accompanied us to the table and made conversation. He learned we were first timers and made it a point to check on us two more times during our meal for feedback. Really nice touch. Our server was a lively Irishman with a great POV on the food and wine.
We started by splitting some appetizers. We enjoyed raw oysters and the tomato di stephano burrata. Oysters were beautiful but did not come with horse radish. However that was quickly remedied after asking. The tomato dish was rich and savory. In addition, the complimentary bread was warm, light and delicious.
For the entree course we selected beef as the protein. I had a filet mignon with the oscar crown. Fantastic steak and plenty of succulent crab in the oscar topping. My companion had a filet as well, but with the King's Butter crown. Rave reviews on this foie gras based topping. As sides we first selected the fried Brussel Sprouts which were perfect. The accompanying lemon aoili was fine, but the sprouts were good enough to stand on their own. Secondly we did the cream corn which was savory and sweet. Great rendition of a classic dish.
We washed all of this down with a velvety red wine, a Sangiovesse to be specific.
We were sufficiently full at this point and did not get to the dessert course.
Overall III forks is a finely executed steakhouse. Amazing and well developed flavors. Bright, enthusiastic and sincere staff. If you're in Austin, make it a point to do at least one dinner here.
The food is always incredible. The service never disappoints. We were charmed by the sound of the wonderful musicians as we passed through to our table and asked to be seated in the Bar area. They were able to accommodate that. Highly recommend to anyone not in a tight date budget.
Food was amazing. The ambiance was outstanding. I took my girlfriend there for her birthday, and it was much more than we expected. The wine list was a 10 page book. The prices are high, but the quality of the meal is def worth the price. The service was outstanding and we had great recommendations from our waitress.
