III Forks - Austin Ratings and Reviews
My new husband & I went during our honeymoon. Our waiter, Mick, was great. He explained the menu & specials that had our mouths watering. Mick even treats us to dessert & a special cocktail for our celebration of marriage! (He even took some great pictures of us to put in our scrapbook.). We will be back next time we’re in Austin!!
This restaurant is my boyfriend & I's new favorite for date night. We were well-welcomed, sat near a fire, waited on by a very nice gentleman, and LOVED our meal. Also- if you like coffee, finish the night with some of their coffee. Also I would suggest the peanut butter pie for dessert. Best meal I have had in years!
Our server was not very attentive. It was NYE so I can not rate him the lowest stars. He did not bring our appetizer. He also never brought the blue cheese olives for my martini which he stated the bartender needed to make more but he would bring me some shortly. However, the steaks and sides were delicious. We will try the restaurant again on a regular night.
Since it’s only a block away we dined at 3Forks Saturday night before the Willie Nelson show at ACL Moody Theater. The service was excellent and the live band was a pleasant surprise. We were fortunate to be seated in a booth which enhanced the experience. The blue point oysters were great and the wedge salad was among the best I’ve had. We had the evening specials for our entrees - king crab legs & a bone in filet with lobster tail - and both were quite good and prepared to order. Dessert of creme brûlée was OK but nothing special and oddly enough the espresso machine was broken so we had to go with regular coffee as an accompaniment. Overall we had a great time and will return.
I've eaten at III Forks in Dallas more than a dozen times over the years and have experienced the best meals of my life there. I've only eaten at III Forks in Austin once before. This was a special holiday meal for my family which included my Wife, daughter, and son and his fiance who now live in Austin.
The restaurant was noisy and we were seated near a main intersection where a main hallway intersects with the kitchen hallway. The waiter was nice but not always attentive when we were not able to get his attention three times as he walked by our table. The sides are no longer included with the meal price and is now a side dish extra cost. The food was average, cocktails average, and I had to send back the pork chop since it was over cooked (ordered medium), tough to cut, difficult to chew. I was given a 6oz. filet instead and it was very good. We ordered two desert items to go and were given generous portions.
The bill was over $725 (tip included) for five people and I walked away being disappointed, no interest in returning, and thought this was a far cry from what I've experienced at III Forks in Dallas many times. We will look for a different restaurant for special occasions in Austin the next time we visit.
The food was exquisite but I thought the service could have been better. We told them it was our 17th anniversary but they did nothing special for us. By contrast, another table got a free piece of cake for a birthday. Probably not going to become one of our "go to" places but I would go back (after a long period of time).
First time eating here and we were so excited to try it. Everything was just ok but not at a just ok price. We started with the lamb meatballs and they were...just ok. Everyone’s meal was fine but nothing special, as were the brussel sprouts and six cheese potato sides. Service was ok, again, nothing special. Dessert was ok and heavy on the coconut. If I were looking for a steak and seafood place in downtown Austin I would opt for Truluck’s or Eddie V’s.
Ordered Pork and Lamb dishes. Both were to be cooked to MW (you can berate me if you want but that's the way we like it) but neither made it that far. The Lamb had to be taken back right away. Unfortunately, I discovered the Pork was underdone the deeper I got into it. The taste of everything was great. Just need it cooked to the right level the 1st time. They were very thick pieces of meat so they should have known to split them for cooking when ordered MW or more.
I was very much looking forward to surprising my fiancé for his bday and they forgot to bring out the cake & candle for desert. I even called earlier in day and made sure they new about the bday cake/candle. , the hosts who answered said he would take care of it. VERY Disappointed , no candle to blow on bday..
Looked forward to our Thanksgiving reservation all week, but was kind of underwhelmed really. It was just okay food with great service. Some things were great like the Tomato soup..but I'm pretty sure they served us dried up stove top stuffing FOR REAL!!! The rest was...just okay. Sort of a let down, but whatever. I'd hoped for a LOT better quality. At least the service was great!
Two adults and two teenagers went for Thanksgiving dinner. Very nice atmosphere. The adults had the Thanksgiving meal and the teenagers both had Filets. We were the last reservation so the Tday sides seemed to have been sitting for a bit (although warmed very well when served to us). I was told that the filets were perfect, and one of the best that they have had (for teens they eat well!). Our bill was over $300 which to me was pricey for what we were served that evening. I will go back for steak though:).
