Excellent atmosphere, excellent food and moderate prices for the quality received.
We were delighted to find a suburban restaurant with a subdued but funky decor and real attention to the food. A jazz pianist was a real plus: interesting to sit and listen to, but not so strong as to overpower conversation. We will definitely be back.
Idylwood Grill is always a standout for excellent food, value, and service.
Intimate setting with caring staff. Even have a cubby of toys for young diners! Wine and food is a great value. Service was attentive. Great discovery - I plan to come back!
Mixed review. Half the diners at our table were pleased with their meals, but virtually everyone had a problem with details. Good mussels app, indifferent, thickly breaded fried calamari. A decent steak with cold, undercooked fries. Wilted lettuce in an entree salad. No skin on a duck breast described on the menu as "crispy." A $35.00 scallop and lobster risotto dish with four scallops (medium-sized, not jumbo) and a few small pieces of lobster scattered through the risotto. Warmed bread that was a day away from being stale. The fortunate diners ordered pasta dishes, which were uniformly good and, on this menu, a relative bargain. We had very good servers and runners, whom we tipped above 20 pct on a sizable tab. But this is a very ordinary kitchen at a relatively steep price point. Hence, I'd not recommend it.
We keep coming to Idylwood Grill over and over. We are never disappointed! This time I had the lamb shanks so delicious! The scallops were outstanding and so was the branzino and the crab cake. Our go-to dessert is the chocolate mousse cake, divine! The room is nice and also the atmosphere, the service is excellent. We really recommend this restaurant.
Great neighborhood spot!
I loved everything about this restaurant. The owner and staff were incredibly efficient, knowledgeable, courteous, and kind. Being in this restaurant made me feel like I was sitting in a room filled with family. Several "regulars" must have come in because I saw the owner and other servers embrace them warmly and ask how they have been. We will definitely become loyal patrons of this establishment.
Excellent way top spend New Year's Eve with close friends!
Could have more options for vegetarians. Otherwise, terrific.
Our group of eight LOVED the scallops, veal Marsala and, especially, the filet mignon au poivre. Also liked the avocado salad and the fresh baked, warm rolls. Waiter was sometimes our of sight fir too long but our water was always promptly refilled by the water team! We love this restaurant and will continue thinking of it for a nice evening out.
Truly awful service BUT the food was divine. It did make up for it a bit.
When I arrived with my family there were only 2 other tables occupied, 1 was a couple and the other sat a few adults (so no large groups). Before our entrees came it was down to 1 other. Even with that and 3 waitresses seemingly sharing the load couldn't manage.
We were not asked about ordering appetizers. After our drinks arrived no one checked on us for quite some time. When placing our entree orders the woman going around the table completely skipped my sister who was placing her order and began walking off before ever taking it to have to be called back and responding "oh yeah". At dessert, 1 was forgotten and again we had to ask for a correction. No one was ever asked if they wanted a refill on their glass of wine or anything else to drink. Lastly, an additional (very pricey) bottle of wine ended up on our check, that was never ordered, since we were never asked if we wanted anything additional.
It honestly seemed like we were in the ladies way which was truly disappointing. This restaurant has so much potential and would a true GEM if it had halfway decent service. I don't appreciate being made to feel in the way when I am out to dinner with my family.
The lobter ravioli was so good but the best is the chocolate mousse cake. We all still talk about that cake!
A hidden gem. Always friendly service, not rushed. Lamb chops are perfectly prepared and delicious. Their sauces are outstanding. Be sure to have bread to dip in the mussels appetizer.
Great surprise in a shopping center. Food, service and wine were excellent.
Idylwood Grill is our most favorite restaurant in all of the DC area. The food is consistently excellent, and the cost is reasonable.
Idylwood is a very nice little neighborhood restaurant. You can have ravioli and crab or filet mignon or any number of different specials that are very good. The service is nice but not outstanding - but no complaints and the restaurant is small and homey. Good for a strip mall!
My one complaint is the music. HORRIBLE! It sounded like something from a nursing home and it has no European type feel.
We have lived in the area for years and have never tried this restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised. The ambience was nice and the service was quick. The food was excellent albeit a bit pricey. They had a good wine selection and the desserts were amazing. We highly recommend it.
This restaurant is outstanding a real neighborhood gem
Wow, I swore I was going to write a review, but seem to have forgotten.
This a fav of my wife and mine the past 15 years we’ve known about it. We decided to have our anniversary dinner there since we weren’t up for traffic going into DC.
The evening was exactly what we wanted. Quite table for two, GREAT food and attentive but unobtrusive server. It was 2 months ago but I have been thinking about that Steak à Poivre every week since! And the Seafood Linguini was also fabulous! Oh and the steamed muscles are also a must!
It’s a dependable, yummy place to spend your evening, especially if you’re in the Tysons Corner/McLean area!
We ordered the avocado salad, which was drenched in a salad sauce, and that ruined the salad for me. I had the Penne Primavera, which was excellent but lacked the freshly-made pasta taste I wanted, and the vegetables did not taste fresh. The avocado salad didn’t taste fresh either, but that was not on my mind the majority of the time eating it because the sauce commanded me attention. The chocolate cake was delicious, and it tasted like an ice cream cake, which I loved.
I felt good in the restaurant because of the lighting and choice of decor, with an enamel plate pained with a visually pleasing form. The server was very professional and was courteous to my mother, who is old. Overall an excellent place to have dinner, but the food would be better if it did not have a dominating feature that did not even taste that great, outshining the good food on the plate.
We recently moved to the area and are thrilled to have found such a great restaurant in our neighborhood! The food and service was fantastic; we can’t wait to come back soon!
Idylwood grill continues to be a family favorite. Delicious food!
when I see the word 'energetic' for noise level - it seems that it should be defined as obnoxiously loud. we were seated at a nice table but had two tables of 6-8 on either side of the room - between us and the live music. There should be someway to suggest to guests that outrageous cackling laughter is rude and imposes on other guest trying to enjoy a nice night out with pleasant conversation - not two groups competing with each other to be heard over the other.
Is there anyway you could divide your room up with the upper level being 'quiet' and the lower level having the party or 6-8 people groups down below.
May be a while before we return.
Comfortable atmosphere. Very friendly staff. Nice selection of Mediterranean menu items. Kids accommodated well. Our group ordered three of the fish options, and all were delicious.
My wife and i shared the shrimp ajo and avocado tower appetizers. I had the blackened scallop entree special. It was perfectly prepared and wasn't too spicy. The risotto was fantastic. My wife had the flounder entree and said it was superb! The service was also awesome :).
I can't wait to return to try the calamari appetizer and the crab cake entree special.
Excellent place for lunch only slightly off the beaten track from Tysons. We took the suggestions and had juicy lamb burger; tasty mushroom ravioli; well seasoned shrimp bisque; and several excellent desserts (banana cream pie; cheesecake; tiramisu; and key lime pie) that are all prepared on premises.
Our "Go To" restaurant whenever we have dinner guests.
Everything was cooked perfectly as usual. Service is attentive without being overbearing. We love this place.
Wonderful food at reasonable prices.
The food quality in this neighborhood restaurant is always above expectations. Lovely sauces, great flavors, wonderful presentation. Always enjoy my visits here.
Waiter was cold, rough, not a friendly waiter. Food was OK, 3 bucks an entree over priced. Music started half way through our meal that was so loud that we had to yell to carry on a conversation.
Average meal, set your expectations accordingly and try it yourself.
The venue is in a strip mall and attended mostly by locals. We were visiting from NC. The food was great and the wine list better than expected. Definitely a good find!
We took friends on Saturday evening to show off to another couple what had been one of our favorite local restaurants. The food was excellent, if in smaller portions than we recalled from previous visits. When we were handed our menus, we were advised to order from the six or seven specialities or yellow-highlighted dishes, which we were told were the "most popular". This was an innovation, one I was suspicious of. But, as noted, the food was very good: scallops on risotto, mushroom ravioli, steak and frits, and what showed on the menu as crab cakes (plural) on angel hair pasta with pesto but turned out to be one big crab cake. My wife loves their banana cream pie, and was disappointed at the shinkage in the size of the piece she was served. The service was cursory, unlike what we previously experienced there, which was always cordial and polite. We were never served bread despite asking twice about it to two different servers. We seemed to have two servers, one a man the other a woman. She told us she would take care of it and never did. I mentioned that we had never received any to the male server before he served desert and he just laughed to himself as he turned away. When he brought the desert menus, he just threw them down on the table in a pile. He made me feel as if I had done something offensive. To be sure, the restaurant filled up quickly after our 6:40 arrival, but there was always at least one free 4-top.
Delicious! Our first time at this restaurant and, believe me, I always present a challenge because I am not only a vegetarian, but a gluten-free vegetarian. Although there was a little that fit that bill on the menu beyond a salad, when I asked the host about options, he didn’t hesitate to tell me they would be happy to accommodate me. I had a wonderful avocado salad and excellent vegetable risotto! My better half had rack of lamb which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Idylwood Grill has been one of our favorite restaurants since it opened in 2005 The food is exceptional, sourced from the best suppliers, prepared exquisitely (there is nothing on the menu I wouldn't recommend), and the service is exceptional. If I had to pick favorites, I highly recommend the Shrimp Ajo and Rack of Lamb. Cheers Idylwood for your consistent excellence!
It’s a hidden gem. I am so happy to have discovered this place. The manager Tuul’s insight on the wine and food was very helpful. I applaud her effort and customer service.
Always consistent and food is always good.
