Excellent service and food.
Idylwood Grill is in a small shopping center and its looks are deceiving. Inside is a very pleasant restaurant. Food is dependably very good. Staff are welcoming.
cute little restaurant. service wasn’t great but food made up for it. space is cramped but clean with nice ambiance
We chose to come here for Valentine's Day in order to do something different, as we typically stay within DC for fancy meals. After scouring menus, I decided the prix fixe options at Idlywood Grill looked good. Unfortunately I should've done more due diligence. The meal was comparable to the selections offered on their traditional menu at a severely bumped up price, and several of the options listed online as Valentine's Day specials were no longer on the menu. All in all, I found the service to be lukewarm, with a charming hostesses, but a server who seemed rushed and cold (despite the menu not being large or at capacity). The food seemingly lacked in flavor, although the Shrimp Ajo was phenomenal. We could have definitely spent the 200$ ($70pp + one wine + tip) elsewhere for a more lux experience and ambiance -- maybe a nice place to come if you live in Falls Church and want a nice wine bar, but the prices/quality for holidays is not worth it.
Great Valentine's day dinner; friendly, prompt, and helpful staff
Another fantastic meal at one of our favorite restaurants. Service and food wonderful as usual.
Service was very attentive. The food from Fried Calamari appetizer to the Blackened Scallops over Risotto and Crab Cake over Spinach Raviolis was well presented generally flavorful. The Crab Cake entree would have benefited from additional seasoning to add some punch. Tiramisu for dessert rounded out an excellent meal.
The atmosphere was great for an intimate dinner and conversation with a special someone. Would definitely go back again and recommend to friends.
Very good food and interesting selection of both food and wine. Not the prettiest location, but its kind of nice to find such a nice place there. Wait staff is competent and very pleasant, but perhaps not the slickest you've ever seen.
What a delightful experience! The atmosphere was quaint and rustic. The owner was so kind, attentive and knowledgeable about the food and the wine. The service was wonderful and inviting. The food was fresh and deliciously seasoned! All the entrees were happily devoured by us. We also enjoyed listening to the musician playing jazz on keyboards - the acoustics was perfect. Love this place. It might just be the best dining experience we have had in a long time. And we will be back for sure. For anyone who's looking for both good food and good atmosphere needs to check out Idylwood Grill.
I used to love going to Idylwood Grill when I lived in Tysons Corner. I moved out of the area 6 years ago and had the opportunity to return this past weekend. Idylwood Grill is every bit as wonderful as I remembered. My boyfriend and I shared the Shrimp Ajo appetizer, he had the Blackened Scallop and Risotto special, and I had the Branzino special. We ended the meal with German chocolate cake and chocolate mousse cake, AND a complimentary key lime tart from the owner. Yes, we ate every bite and did not regret one calorie! We also enjoyed a bottle of wine from their lovely wine list. This was my boyfriend's first visit to Idylwood Grill, and now he is as enamored as I am. We hope to have an opportunity to return soon!
We visited the restaurant on a very busy night. Our table was next to a large group who spent the first 30 minutes standing around our table having drinks. That would be fine in a larger restaurant but Idlywood simply does not have the space. Fortunately, we were able to order our dinner first. The meal was fine but the overall noise took away from the birthday celebration we were having.
Maybe a one-off but having a server who is totally disinterested does not represent well. Besides having no one come by the table after starters and entrees to ask: "how is everything?", the topper was having the dessert menu tossed (literally) toward my place setting.
I had rack of lamb and it was good. The staff who filled the water, refreshed silver and cleared dishes was attentive and the only reason I left a tip.
Everything great except chicken was overcooked/tough.
Excellent food, impeccable and friendly service, warm atmosphere, reasonable prices—what more can you ask for?
Very nice quiet small restaurant with excellent food and service. Great place for good food and conversation with friends and be able to hear everybody.
I always love going there for special occasions! Felt pampered!
Excellent atmosphere, excellent food and moderate prices for the quality received.
We were delighted to find a suburban restaurant with a subdued but funky decor and real attention to the food. A jazz pianist was a real plus: interesting to sit and listen to, but not so strong as to overpower conversation. We will definitely be back.
Idylwood Grill is always a standout for excellent food, value, and service.
Intimate setting with caring staff. Even have a cubby of toys for young diners! Wine and food is a great value. Service was attentive. Great discovery - I plan to come back!
Mixed review. Half the diners at our table were pleased with their meals, but virtually everyone had a problem with details. Good mussels app, indifferent, thickly breaded fried calamari. A decent steak with cold, undercooked fries. Wilted lettuce in an entree salad. No skin on a duck breast described on the menu as "crispy." A $35.00 scallop and lobster risotto dish with four scallops (medium-sized, not jumbo) and a few small pieces of lobster scattered through the risotto. Warmed bread that was a day away from being stale. The fortunate diners ordered pasta dishes, which were uniformly good and, on this menu, a relative bargain. We had very good servers and runners, whom we tipped above 20 pct on a sizable tab. But this is a very ordinary kitchen at a relatively steep price point. Hence, I'd not recommend it.
We keep coming to Idylwood Grill over and over. We are never disappointed! This time I had the lamb shanks so delicious! The scallops were outstanding and so was the branzino and the crab cake. Our go-to dessert is the chocolate mousse cake, divine! The room is nice and also the atmosphere, the service is excellent. We really recommend this restaurant.
Great neighborhood spot!
I loved everything about this restaurant. The owner and staff were incredibly efficient, knowledgeable, courteous, and kind. Being in this restaurant made me feel like I was sitting in a room filled with family. Several "regulars" must have come in because I saw the owner and other servers embrace them warmly and ask how they have been. We will definitely become loyal patrons of this establishment.
Excellent way top spend New Year's Eve with close friends!
Could have more options for vegetarians. Otherwise, terrific.
Our group of eight LOVED the scallops, veal Marsala and, especially, the filet mignon au poivre. Also liked the avocado salad and the fresh baked, warm rolls. Waiter was sometimes our of sight fir too long but our water was always promptly refilled by the water team! We love this restaurant and will continue thinking of it for a nice evening out.
Truly awful service BUT the food was divine. It did make up for it a bit.
When I arrived with my family there were only 2 other tables occupied, 1 was a couple and the other sat a few adults (so no large groups). Before our entrees came it was down to 1 other. Even with that and 3 waitresses seemingly sharing the load couldn't manage.
We were not asked about ordering appetizers. After our drinks arrived no one checked on us for quite some time. When placing our entree orders the woman going around the table completely skipped my sister who was placing her order and began walking off before ever taking it to have to be called back and responding "oh yeah". At dessert, 1 was forgotten and again we had to ask for a correction. No one was ever asked if they wanted a refill on their glass of wine or anything else to drink. Lastly, an additional (very pricey) bottle of wine ended up on our check, that was never ordered, since we were never asked if we wanted anything additional.
It honestly seemed like we were in the ladies way which was truly disappointing. This restaurant has so much potential and would a true GEM if it had halfway decent service. I don't appreciate being made to feel in the way when I am out to dinner with my family.
The lobter ravioli was so good but the best is the chocolate mousse cake. We all still talk about that cake!
A hidden gem. Always friendly service, not rushed. Lamb chops are perfectly prepared and delicious. Their sauces are outstanding. Be sure to have bread to dip in the mussels appetizer.
Great surprise in a shopping center. Food, service and wine were excellent.
Idylwood Grill is our most favorite restaurant in all of the DC area. The food is consistently excellent, and the cost is reasonable.
Idylwood is a very nice little neighborhood restaurant. You can have ravioli and crab or filet mignon or any number of different specials that are very good. The service is nice but not outstanding - but no complaints and the restaurant is small and homey. Good for a strip mall!
My one complaint is the music. HORRIBLE! It sounded like something from a nursing home and it has no European type feel.
We have lived in the area for years and have never tried this restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised. The ambience was nice and the service was quick. The food was excellent albeit a bit pricey. They had a good wine selection and the desserts were amazing. We highly recommend it.
This restaurant is outstanding a real neighborhood gem
Wow, I swore I was going to write a review, but seem to have forgotten.
This a fav of my wife and mine the past 15 years we’ve known about it. We decided to have our anniversary dinner there since we weren’t up for traffic going into DC.
The evening was exactly what we wanted. Quite table for two, GREAT food and attentive but unobtrusive server. It was 2 months ago but I have been thinking about that Steak à Poivre every week since! And the Seafood Linguini was also fabulous! Oh and the steamed muscles are also a must!
It’s a dependable, yummy place to spend your evening, especially if you’re in the Tysons Corner/McLean area!
We ordered the avocado salad, which was drenched in a salad sauce, and that ruined the salad for me. I had the Penne Primavera, which was excellent but lacked the freshly-made pasta taste I wanted, and the vegetables did not taste fresh. The avocado salad didn’t taste fresh either, but that was not on my mind the majority of the time eating it because the sauce commanded me attention. The chocolate cake was delicious, and it tasted like an ice cream cake, which I loved.
I felt good in the restaurant because of the lighting and choice of decor, with an enamel plate pained with a visually pleasing form. The server was very professional and was courteous to my mother, who is old. Overall an excellent place to have dinner, but the food would be better if it did not have a dominating feature that did not even taste that great, outshining the good food on the plate.
We recently moved to the area and are thrilled to have found such a great restaurant in our neighborhood! The food and service was fantastic; we can’t wait to come back soon!
Idylwood grill continues to be a family favorite. Delicious food!
