Idylwood grill continues to be a family favorite. Delicious food!
when I see the word 'energetic' for noise level - it seems that it should be defined as obnoxiously loud. we were seated at a nice table but had two tables of 6-8 on either side of the room - between us and the live music. There should be someway to suggest to guests that outrageous cackling laughter is rude and imposes on other guest trying to enjoy a nice night out with pleasant conversation - not two groups competing with each other to be heard over the other.
Is there anyway you could divide your room up with the upper level being 'quiet' and the lower level having the party or 6-8 people groups down below.
May be a while before we return.
Comfortable atmosphere. Very friendly staff. Nice selection of Mediterranean menu items. Kids accommodated well. Our group ordered three of the fish options, and all were delicious.
My wife and i shared the shrimp ajo and avocado tower appetizers. I had the blackened scallop entree special. It was perfectly prepared and wasn't too spicy. The risotto was fantastic. My wife had the flounder entree and said it was superb! The service was also awesome :).
I can't wait to return to try the calamari appetizer and the crab cake entree special.
Excellent place for lunch only slightly off the beaten track from Tysons. We took the suggestions and had juicy lamb burger; tasty mushroom ravioli; well seasoned shrimp bisque; and several excellent desserts (banana cream pie; cheesecake; tiramisu; and key lime pie) that are all prepared on premises.
Our "Go To" restaurant whenever we have dinner guests.
Everything was cooked perfectly as usual. Service is attentive without being overbearing. We love this place.
The food quality in this neighborhood restaurant is always above expectations. Lovely sauces, great flavors, wonderful presentation. Always enjoy my visits here.
Waiter was cold, rough, not a friendly waiter. Food was OK, 3 bucks an entree over priced. Music started half way through our meal that was so loud that we had to yell to carry on a conversation.
Average meal, set your expectations accordingly and try it yourself.
The venue is in a strip mall and attended mostly by locals. We were visiting from NC. The food was great and the wine list better than expected. Definitely a good find!
We took friends on Saturday evening to show off to another couple what had been one of our favorite local restaurants. The food was excellent, if in smaller portions than we recalled from previous visits. When we were handed our menus, we were advised to order from the six or seven specialities or yellow-highlighted dishes, which we were told were the "most popular". This was an innovation, one I was suspicious of. But, as noted, the food was very good: scallops on risotto, mushroom ravioli, steak and frits, and what showed on the menu as crab cakes (plural) on angel hair pasta with pesto but turned out to be one big crab cake. My wife loves their banana cream pie, and was disappointed at the shinkage in the size of the piece she was served. The service was cursory, unlike what we previously experienced there, which was always cordial and polite. We were never served bread despite asking twice about it to two different servers. We seemed to have two servers, one a man the other a woman. She told us she would take care of it and never did. I mentioned that we had never received any to the male server before he served desert and he just laughed to himself as he turned away. When he brought the desert menus, he just threw them down on the table in a pile. He made me feel as if I had done something offensive. To be sure, the restaurant filled up quickly after our 6:40 arrival, but there was always at least one free 4-top.
Delicious! Our first time at this restaurant and, believe me, I always present a challenge because I am not only a vegetarian, but a gluten-free vegetarian. Although there was a little that fit that bill on the menu beyond a salad, when I asked the host about options, he didn’t hesitate to tell me they would be happy to accommodate me. I had a wonderful avocado salad and excellent vegetable risotto! My better half had rack of lamb which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Idylwood Grill has been one of our favorite restaurants since it opened in 2005 The food is exceptional, sourced from the best suppliers, prepared exquisitely (there is nothing on the menu I wouldn't recommend), and the service is exceptional. If I had to pick favorites, I highly recommend the Shrimp Ajo and Rack of Lamb. Cheers Idylwood for your consistent excellence!
It’s a hidden gem. I am so happy to have discovered this place. The manager Tuul’s insight on the wine and food was very helpful. I applaud her effort and customer service.
Always consistent and food is always good.
In a word, our meal/evening was perfect!
Idylwood Grill is a restaurant my wife and have frequented over the past 10 years or more. It is a quaint space with a great menu and a relaxed atmosphere.
The seafood linguini is a “go to” favorite, but I think I tried their Filet Mignon au poivre that was FABULOUS! I think I reserved another restaurant for my French Steak Frite, but I’m so glad I had Idylwood’s! My wife and I were BOTH saying we thought about how good it was today during our workdays.
If you’re looking for a nice place to have a relaxed conversation with your spouse and/or your best friend over great food and drink, this is a place you must try. You’ll be glad you did!
The crispy duck was amazing. The vegetables on the side were so good I could become a vegetarian. Love this place, secret gem!!!
We recently had lunch here (our first visit) and were impressed with both the food and service. There were 5 in our party and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. My husband and I agreed that their coffee could have been better but other than that, we walked away pledging to return for dinner in the near future.
Idylwood Grille is fantastic=meal was off the charts. Really a great place to dine.
A very pleasant experience. All three of us ordered something different and all meals were outstanding. The staff was very friendly and efficient. Can’t wait to go back!
First time and impressed with quality of food and number of choices. Wine by the glass was good and reasonably priced. Enjoyed the evening.
Idylwood Grill has a warm atmosphere and despite being pretty open inside, it is not too loud so you can enjoy conversation. The service is friendly & personal. The food is the real star. Lovely sauces. Beautiful prep & presentation. A wonderful date night destination.
Awesome in every respect! A real gem that’s off the beaten path!!
The food and service are always great. This is our go to place.
We all enjoyed Idylwood Grill, and the food was lovely. It was a tad difficult to find, and the parking lot got full pretty fast. But our server was delightful and accommodating, and the restaurant itself is lovely.
I’d wanted to eat here for a few years, and kept forgetting about it - probably because it pales in comparison to many other small venues nearby (McLean, Tysons, Vienna).
We finally visited Idylwood Grill, and it was okay. We both ordered filet mignon, which was perfection - but the fried potatoes (“frites”) were soggy.
The wine list wasn’t what we thought it would be but sufficient for the meal.
Service was provided by s semi-surly fellow who wanted to rush us through every step of the meal. I finally had to tell him not to clear the table ... also asked for more bread (for two of u) and was given one small roll.
I might go back, but it wouldn’t be my first choice. Too bad because we’re always on the lookout for a friendly retreat (as this place might have been).
I couldn’t recommend it without warning people about the impatient waiter. The biggest thing it has going for it from our perspective, is that it’s convenient, has passable fare, and is easy to book.
First of all, I love Idylwood Grill! Normally, the food is fantastic, service is excellent, wait staff and management are friendly. It's just a wonderful local place to get a great meal at a very fair price. Great wine selection. However, this time, the food that I ordered was not up to their usual standards. I had order branzini a couple of months ago, and it was OUTSTANDING. Couldn't wait to come back and order it again, which I did, but it wasn't anything like the dish that I had order before. Very disappointing. Not sure if it was a different chef, or it was just an off night for branzini. I'll keep coming back, cause I love the place.
Idylwood has all the makings to become my go-to place. The food is great, the venue is comfortable and unpretentious, and the owner is charming. I’m reluctant to recommend this place because I don’t want it to become so popular that I can’t just drop in and enjoy!
The food was excellent as always. Good wine list. We always enjoy dining at Idylwood Grill.
As always, the food and service at Idylwood Grill were excellent. Several of us ordered their special crab cakes, which were mouthwatering and packed with crab., making them light with no detectable filler. I also had their delicious avocado salad. This tasty salad is always a good starter. Throughout our evening the attentive staff kept our water, wine and coffees full and made sure we had everything we needed. My guests who were new to Idylwood were impressed and already making plans to return soon.
I definitely recommend Idylwood to all my friends! The food is always very good, I have never been disappointed.
Such a great experience! Great food, ambience and amazing service.
Idylwood is reliable for delicious cuisine, excellent service, a good wine selection and a friendly, casually elegant atmosphere. It’s one of the best kept secrets in the Northern Virginia, and I hope it stays that way. A table is almost always available. It’s a neighbor treasure. The owner and his staff are personable and always make one feel welcome. The banana cream pie, like other desserts, is made in house and is heavenly!
We had a variety of foods. We loved the gazpacho. The lamb shank was a winner as were the moules (Mussels) mariniere. We shared a chocolate cake and a cheesecake for dessert and they were fine but nothing tom write home about. All in all, we would go back. You could hear yourself speak without raising your voice. That was a plus. We prefer cloth napkins and tablecloths but alas, these were plastic.
I love this restaurant! Best date night place in Falls Church !
Monthly birthday lunch or dinner for a group of friends who are retired teachers from Arlington. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the German Chocolate cake was spectacular! Very attentive staff.
Our favorite place
This restaurant needs a inside facelift; first thing is to get rid of the plastic table cloths. Then get a new wait staff. Our server was barely decent--the only smile or humain-like reaction we received was when the check came and we paid. The food was good, but over priced for the location and ambiance.
One of the true hidden gems in Northern Virginia; food excellent and well priced; good wine list; wonderful upbeat ambiance; highly recommend
