Ida B's Table
We went to Ida B’s for a special occasion. I was really excited, and am unfortunately underwhelmed. The live music was not bad, but pretty loud for a 7:30pm dinner. The food was good, but not great. And the service was noticeably lacking. Our busser came pretty promptly, bringing water and cornbread (which was delicious!), but it took a looong time before our server came to take any kind of order. Since it had been so long, we put in drinks and our full dinner orders.
Our drinks and food did all come promptly, and the drinks were good. But we finished our drinks, no one noticed, and then they were cleared with our entrees and we weren’t asked if we wanted more, even though we had made a point to hang on to the drinks menu. My boyfriend had ordered the fixed price dinner which included dessert, but I only ordered an appetizer and main course. When our mains were cleared, the waitress just said, “I’ll bring you your dessert.” I wasn’t given a chance to order dessert for myself, and although we both did want further drinks at that point, we gave up. Who knows if they have coffee or other things. When we had stopped eating the dessert, she came by and said “are you all done?” And we said “I think so.” And she said “I’ll bring your check.” We didn’t ask for the check. No one was waiting for the table. I have no idea how this place has survived if they don’t want to sell anyone anything.
Food was hit or miss. I had the Oxtail which was delicious. My friend has the beef ribs which was meh. There was a band so the place was so loud, not ideal for a good conversation. Cocktails were so so. I’d probably go back another time to try other items.
Food was fantastic, Jambalaya was a big hit and my catfish was a great combination of sweet and spicy.
Cocktails were good, only complaint was service was a little slow. Manager was very sweet, came over to say hi and check on us. Nice ambiance.
The food and service was excellent!!! From beginning to the end the staff was wonderful
Excellent food, and excellent service. The bartender was very friendly and made our date so much fun. We were able to watch the game and enjoy our food.
The drink menu has stains on the front and inside pages. Please replace or laminate. Service was good. Limited brunch menu...
Went on a Saturday evening around 5.
Food was delicious. Restaurant was impeccably clean. Service was GREAT! Live Jazz started at around 6:30pm—which was also pretty amazing. They played the instrumental version to a few of my favorite tunes. Great Job Band!! I’ll be back for Sure!
The service and food were superb! It will be my go to whenever I'm in Baltimore.
Food and ambiance were great!
This was my first time eating there. The food and service was magnificent. I really enjoyed the live jazz band.
Been here multiple times. Soul food with a (great) twist. Fisherman’s stew is always great and the chicken is to die for.
The bartender was fantastic, and everyone really enjoyed the cocktails he made us. The food was AMAZING! Honestly it was the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Ida Bs is a must-try restaurant in Baltimore
We had a wonderful time at Ida B’s the atmosphere, food, and customer service were outstanding. I will dine there again and highly recommend.
OMG!!! This place is a gem. Cozy and comfortable with truly delectable eats!!
Lots of choices on the menu; perfectly seasoned.
We plan to go back in the evening and partake of their libations. Oh, and stop by the bookstore inside as well..quaint and comfy!!
Our server was excellent. Knowledgeable, cheerful and kind. The food we had was blander than expected, lacking in seasoning and just not “wow.” I know the reputation is pretty solid, so maybe we went on an off day. Would try again.
Thoroughly enjoyed the food, friendliness of the staff, ambiance and the live entertainment.
This might be my favorite restaurant in Baltimore. The food, drinks, service, music, and ambience are fantastic. I’ve been several times and it’s been exceptional every time.
The food and service was great!!!
My niece wanted to try this place again. She previously went to brunch there with friends and thought the chicken was so-so but the waffles were very good. So she wanted to give it a second chance at dinner.
The good... The speakeasy ambience, the amazing band, and a totally delightful manager. When you walk in the place just captivates you. Our expectations were through the roof.
The bad... One dish was bland (the fried catfish) while the other was salty (octopus perloo). We didn't finish either dish. The server was very robotic and annoying. We would say we would need a few minutes to make a decision. He would literally take one step back, hold his hands and just watch us. We basically had to tell him to go away. The bartender can't make a basic drink to save his life. I ordered an Old Fashioned with top shelf bourbon. It must have been his first time ever making the drink for it was all wrong. However, here was the kicker... I ordered hot tea with lemon and honey for after dinner. The waiter brought me watered down honey. When I asked for regular honey, I was told they serve it like that so it will melt better in hot tea! Hmm. I always thought honey naturally melts in hot tea but that's just me! He eventually brought me regular honey BUT when I got the bill I was charged $1 for the honey and $0.50 for the lemon wedge!
This place has so much potential. It was very disappointing that the food and service are just not there, that they are cutting corners with their dishes, in need of a serious bartender and have ridiculous per item charging practice.
Self described "modern soul" is 100% accurate. Thoughtful adaptions of well known (and some not so well known) favorites. Service was a bit slow for the crowd but generally attentive.
Very good service management is very pleasant overall atmosphere was great food was very exceptionally good
Delicious and great service! Would recommend to anyone who likes serious soul food with a classy culinary professional twist!
The menu is like no other; tasty, lots of healthy choices, great ambiance and Cash the assistant manager walked to each table and inquired about our meal. The energy was great and staff were engaging. I lived that the chef brought our food to the table, that made me feel extra special.
Ambiance was relaxing and interior was beautiful; exposed brick, and homage to the great Ida B Wells.
I was visiting from Chicago and my best meal was from Ida B’s Table.
Our reservation was for 5pm we arrived 15mins early. We were seated as soon as possible. The manager came over and greeted us with the warmest smile and conversation. Our waiter Shane was knowledgeable about the menu and gave excellent service. The music had me dancing in my seat as I enjoyed my meal. Great place. Great experience.
We were delighted to find Ida B's Table on a visit to the beautiful city of Baltimore. The staff were super- attentive; we got seated right away at a quiet table, which I requested because I am hard of hearing. Even though the band was playing soft jazz in the background, my dining companion and I could still hear one another well. The wait person was well informed about the dishes and ingredients, which was important because of food allergies. We went with the prix fixe menu. Everything was delicious and artfully prepared. I found the pork chop a bit tough and my dining companion found the bread pudding to be a little dense and stodgy, but the sauces and seasonings were original and well executed. This is refined soul food at its best.
This place never disappoints for a business lunch. Prompt and warm friendly service that remembers last time you came. Great food, carefully prepared. Excellent value and decent variety. One of these days I will indulge in a helping of the exquisite mouth watering good. bread pudding. Salads and Liberian greens are always fresh and delicious too.
I really enjoyed the ambiance of this restaurant. The food selection was good. Even as a vegetarian I was able to find something to eat. The band/music that was playing tonight was great and added to the good experience. The general manager spoke with my wife and I concerning the Danny Glover portrait in the restaurant, that seemed out of place; although, we both knew it had to have a purpose. Thanks for taking the time to speak with us.
Love the place and the food! The only critique is the music is too loud.
Yes, recommend it, no question. The oxtail dish with root vegetables was excellent. Also had beef marrow with garlic toast, also excellent. All the other dishes sounded very good, would go back just to check them out.
I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a historic trip down memory lane when it comes to the foods of Black American and African descendant peoples. A thoughtful menu, thoughtful beverage programme and wonderful chef/owner and staff. I love this place.
Had a great date night with hubby
The curry wings were delicious. The salmon dish and beef ribs were great
Love love love Ida B’s. This was my first time going on a Friday night with jazz and the singer was amazing. I hated to leave.
Loved the food and atmosphere. People were very friendly. Live Jazz was totally on point! Loved it. Perfect for a celebration...
Fabulous place! Great food, great service, and great ideas behind it all. Ida B Wells is my new hero.
Ida B's came highly recommended by a dear friend so we were super excited. The restaurant has a very inviting urban vibe with music that keeps you swaying and one of the friendliest, most knowledgeable wait staffs I've encountered in a very long time. The entrees we ordered were a little lackluster, leaving us a bit underwhelmed. But then...DESSERT!! The Peach Cobbler Bread Pudding is E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G!!! Warm, buttery, silky, satisfying, not too sweet, extremely well-balanced with warming spices. If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely go back for dessert. Bravo!!
Had the pleasure of a birthday dinner with my cousin. It was a Sunday evening. The food was good and the servers were friendly.
Definitely will be back!
Our experience overall was ok. It was our second time in over a year. We had brunch. A large family was seated next to us with children running all over the place ... sometimes that can’t be helped. It was definitely time to go at that point though. Our server was informative and awesome...my husbands food was a bit too salty. We love the concept and love to support Ida B’s but we question our return.
I made reservations for 8:15pm. I was seated quickly but the waiter did a terrible job and never took our order. It was only me and my friend. We waited 35 minutes before finally going to the bar to ask if we could order our food. We saw our waiter constantly go to other tables to service them. We ended up having to sit in the bar area even though I made a reservation to be in the restaurant area. The bar manager told us we had to sit in the bar, since we were ordering from the bar, but we were only ordering from the bar because we were hungry and the waiter was not taking our order even after we asked him in passing if could take our order. He said he would be right there and never came. The manager apologizes but did not do much to accommodate the inconvenience We still didn't get our food until 9:30. This was my 4th time at Id B's and I am extremely disappointed in the service.
Went to celebrate my Wife's birthday a party of 6. We all had a great time and the food was good. Service however was a little slow. The server was nice but didn't always check back with us in a timely manner though. The food like I mentioned was good but slow coming out of the kitchen when we felt like there weren't a ton of people in the restaurant at the time. Even with that, the live music was great and I definitely would go back again.
