Ida B's Table
Evening out with the ladies perfect spot for dinner.
The idea was to eat good food and introduce friends who hadn’t met. It was restaurant week; some of our group of 6 ordered from the special menu, some from the regular menu. We shared several items and everything was tasty. The two who chose the smoky friend chicken loved the deep, smoky, moist bird. Liberian greens were extra delicious. I wasn’t sure I’d like okra stew, but it was yummy. Rockfish chowder was expertly cooked. We shared brown sugar pie and lemon coconut pie for desert. Both were great but the group voted the lemon coconut the best, including those who don’t generally like coconut. Our server Angel? She was great—our thanks, Angel!
First of all, the food was absolutely delicious! The flavors were surprising and each item was cooked perfectly. The service was warm and friendly. The set of of the restaurant is a little confusing; part cafe, part live music/performance venue, part fine dining establishment. This did not detract from the quality of food or service. Will definitely be recommending this restaurant to anyone who will listen.
My first time there and it was great.
We went for brunch and we were a little disappointed that the menu online was way more extensive then what was actually on the menu for brunch. We began with the pastry board which included homemade cinnamon buns, pecan muffins and chocolate eclairs which were delicious. My husband loved his chicken and waffles and took a fried chicken dinner home. I had the fried catfish with mac&cheese and greens which tasted like my grandmother had done the cooking. They serve huge portions. I was able to take enough fish and sides home for my dinner. All of the staff including the general manager were very friendly and welcoming. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Amiazing service and food
The restaurant and staff has a really great vibe. The food was phenomenal
Service great. The waiter approach was not inviting however he did his job. Need to not be so monotone and try to smile. The manager was very inviting. Did need get the entire menu due to the holiday but I enjoyed my choice. The drink for half and half was a lil pricey for ten ounces 4.5i.
Food was amazing. Service was great. Would highly reccomend for brunch and dinner. My only complaint is that they apparently dont accommodate parties greater than 6 so my other friends couldnt come to my bday brunch-even though there was plenty of empty seating when we went.
First time there for brunch. Food was awesome. Service was very poor. Had to ask multiple times to the servers to get us basic stuff like cutlery etc..
I’ll start with the positives. The brown butter for the cornbread was delicious! I also like that they leave a large bottle of water on the table for everyone. Some negatives are that the music was a little loud when trying to have dinner conversation. I thought it would be more like background music. I ordered the fried catfish and substituted mashed sweet potatoes for the Mac and cheese. I also had greens with it. The catfish was fried well but I tasted ZERO seasoning. That was highly disappointing. If you like your mashed sweet potatoes to be sweet then I would suggest asking for additional brown butter to add to it like I did. The greens were basic. I’m really not trying to be rude or insulting. I wanted to love this place but I did not. I was excited about the coffee cake bread pudding until I actually got it. It was the size of a cupcake. The sauce was good but the bread pudding was hard and not in a good way. I also had an amaretto sour. It tasted good. I would have preferred it to be in a larger glass. I think I finished it in about three or four sips. Not gulps. Sips. My husband had the jambalaya. The ingredients say, ‘whatever is in the kitchen’. He asked our waitress and was told it would have chicken and shrimp in it. He ate all of it and said he tasted no chicken. The shrimp comes out with the head on. That was fine for me but for some it can be off putting which is why I mentioned it. We had reservations for 7pm and when we got there (it was four of us), we noticed it wasn’t that crowded for a Friday night. We understand why now. I may try it again just to see if another item on the menu would work for me but there’s no rush. My friend had a Caesar salad and added shrimp to it. She said the salad was fresh. She also had the seafood stew. She liked that although she thought it was a little thick. More like a chowder. Curry chicken wings good but don’t taste like curry.
I had the oxtails and my friend has the catfish and both entrees were well-prepared and well-seasoned. We shared Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer and they were exceptional. Would definitely dine there again.
FINALLY got here, took guests from out of town. Not to be believed. FANTASTIC. Could not have been better. LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT -- the food was unbelievable, the space is cool, service was excellent. THE BEST.
This was our second visit; again we found the food and wine excellent, and the service outstanding. Perfect.
I love this place! The service was beyond excellent, and the food was wonderfully seasoned. Fantastic combination! I will be returning for sure!
Another true gem in Baltimore!
Great service and I loved the ambiance, but I was not a fan of the fried chicken. It was bland. My guests enjoyed the Oxtails and Curry Goat.
Great food, great time. Be sure to get the Brussel sprouts. Loved the live music.
We had a wonderful time celebrating my friends birthday at Ida B's. I ordered Jolof Rice but it was way too spicy for me. Our server happily and quickly replaced it with another side dish. Otherwise, the food was absolutely delish! We all enjoyed ourselves and will definitely visit again. Oh, I need to mention that the music selection was outstanding!
Superb dining! Delectable cuisine, lovely artwork, attentive service and the perfect ambience all combined together to make for a memorable dining experience. The Mozambique mussels was one of the most flavorful dishes I have had in a long time. A chef that can create complex flavors combination and make you not want to put the dish down is my kind of chef. Kudos!!!!!
This is a very great restaurant. The ambiance is beautiful as I love the décor , salute, theme and set-up in the honor of Ida B. Wells. The food was great. I especially loved how things were seasoned. I am a big pepper guy and initially I was alarmed there were no salt and pepper shakers on the table. Well I guess they knew why they weren't there as they were not needed at all. The only hiccup with the food was the mac and cheese. I don't eat it as I am a Keto guy and make cauliflower & cheese, but my wife is a mac and cheese connoisseur. She was not impressed with it at all. Everything else was great. Fried chicken, greens, cornbread, catfish, peppermint tea were all super. We will definitely be back and I recommend it highly to others! Also, our server was pleasant and good, but she did leave us unattended at times without checking for a while...
Once again, a great meal at Ida B’s—smoked chicken with sides and the eggs Benedict with tender brisket on one of the best biscuits ever. Our center Stage pre-matinee lunch!
Excellent food and ambiance. Restaurant manager asked us how we enjoyed our lunch experience. Would highly recommend.
Had been meaning to try Ida B's for many months but brunch this past week was the first time we made it and it did not disappoint. From the warm welcome to one of the best brunch items I have eaten (the brisket benedict) it was fabulous. My 16 year old who is somewhat picky ate and loved everything she ate, including some things outside her wheelhouse like sweet potato waffle and bread pudding. Already have plans to go back for dinner in a couple weeks.
Everything was wonderful.
Ida B's Table was absolutely wonderful! The live jazz musicians made the ambiance incredible, the food was delicious (we ordered Jambalaya, the Sega Wot looked amazing), our server was great (she recommended the Brown Sugar Pie with buttermilk ice cream, which was to die for), and the art was beautiful. I would absolutely recommend this wonderful restaurant to anyone and I can't wait to go back myself.
We had a fabulous family brunch- the fried chicken and waffles were awesome and we started our meal sharing some amazing biscuits and muffins. The staff was so welcoming- it made our visit extra special - we will be back!!
Great flavor combinations. Welcoming staff.
Make reservations it is popular for a reason.
The food at Ida B’s was extraordinary! We went for Sunday brunch. The coffee was great, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was very comfortable yet elegant. I had the Brisket Benedict, and it is one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth! The prices were incredibly reasonable, especially considering how amazing the food is!
Ida B's Table is a great, warm, welcoming space. Beware there is live music that is very loud--not deafening, we could still converse, but it's pretty loud. Also beware that if you order a cheese plate, you get four types of cheese--including soft pimiento cheese that must be eaten with bread or a cracker, unless you want to lick it off a knife--and they provide three very small slices of baguette with the entire cheese board. We requested extra bread and five more slices of baguette came out 10-15 minutes later--and cost $2 added to our bill! You have to laugh, that's pretty amateurish. Other than long waits for our second drinks (we wanted them before our entrees arrived but were only able to order them as we finished eating, since the server didn't stop back before then), the meal was great. Smoked fried chicken, catfish and oxtail were all great and served in generous portions. A little salt on the table might be nice--I just prefer a little more salt in my food. Greens and mac and cheese were tasty. The wine selection is good. I'd recommend this place but A) Don't order the cheese board and B) Order your second drink as soon as you have a chance, even if you're not quite ready yet. In our case, the manager stopped by after we got our entrees but we didn't feel comfortable ordering drinks from her--she's a busy manager, right? The server came by probably 15-20 minutes later to check on us, so we DEFINITELY should have ordered from that manager! I did enjoy the slow pace of the meal. I like a dinner that takes 90 minutes instead of being rushed out in 40. I'd try this place again with these things in mind.
It was an unfortunate experience overall. We went in and had to wait about 15 mins to be sat. We decided to wait at the bar and order apps and drinks. Our table was ready before the apps came so we had them delivered to the table. One colleague and I shared chicken wings. She ate about three of them and they didn’t sit well with her stomach so she had to return the wings to the restaurant via the toilet. We do des to leave and no sooner then 3 mins into our walk down the street I deposited the wings on the sidewalk. Never going here again! The restaurant brings shame to the legacy they are honoring.
We arrived 10 minutes early and were made to wait despite our entire party being present and the restaurant being mostly empty. The hostess said nothing to explain the wait. Considering I was contacted 3 times prior to ensure we would make it and be on time, we expected more.
The server was ok once we were seated but I had to ask his name bc he just came up and started asking for our drink order. But he wasn't very attentive during our meal.
The food came quickly. Overall the food was good.
The worst thing occurred when I completed the check I heard the woman say "she didn't leave a tip." I was quite offended because I was automatically charged $22 in gratuity & didn't write in an extra tip because they were not deserving.
Will never return and sadly can't recommend.
We went to Ida B’s for a special occasion. I was really excited, and am unfortunately underwhelmed. The live music was not bad, but pretty loud for a 7:30pm dinner. The food was good, but not great. And the service was noticeably lacking. Our busser came pretty promptly, bringing water and cornbread (which was delicious!), but it took a looong time before our server came to take any kind of order. Since it had been so long, we put in drinks and our full dinner orders.
Our drinks and food did all come promptly, and the drinks were good. But we finished our drinks, no one noticed, and then they were cleared with our entrees and we weren’t asked if we wanted more, even though we had made a point to hang on to the drinks menu. My boyfriend had ordered the fixed price dinner which included dessert, but I only ordered an appetizer and main course. When our mains were cleared, the waitress just said, “I’ll bring you your dessert.” I wasn’t given a chance to order dessert for myself, and although we both did want further drinks at that point, we gave up. Who knows if they have coffee or other things. When we had stopped eating the dessert, she came by and said “are you all done?” And we said “I think so.” And she said “I’ll bring your check.” We didn’t ask for the check. No one was waiting for the table. I have no idea how this place has survived if they don’t want to sell anyone anything.
Food was hit or miss. I had the Oxtail which was delicious. My friend has the beef ribs which was meh. There was a band so the place was so loud, not ideal for a good conversation. Cocktails were so so. I’d probably go back another time to try other items.
The hostess was not too friendly. She would not seat us until the other couple arrived after we drove about an hour to get to the restaurant to have dinner with our friends. I made reservations at 6:30pm and my friends were running 15 minutes late due to an accident on 495. When we were ready to be seated, she took us to the table and told us as she was seating us that she need our table back by 8:25pm because someone else had reservations at 8:30pm. My wife and I felt that she was very unprofessional by stated that as we were sitting down. We were still enjoying our friends fellowship at 8:30pm and noticed 5 are more tables empty and no one sitting at them. We end up staying close to 9pm and not once did she come over to say we had to go because it was past the time she needed the table.
Food and atmosphere were outstanding.
Always great food and love the atmosphere here. Great service and friendly staff.
Food was fantastic, Jambalaya was a big hit and my catfish was a great combination of sweet and spicy.
Cocktails were good, only complaint was service was a little slow. Manager was very sweet, came over to say hi and check on us. Nice ambiance.
The food and service was excellent!!! From beginning to the end the staff was wonderful
