Ici Urban Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Ok, let me start by saying that our food (breakfast) once it arrived was very good. That being said, we arrived on time for our reservation and told the hostess that we were now a party of 3 instead of 4 since one member of our family was ill and did not come to the restaurant, Despite this information, the hostess took us to a table where she laid a menu at each of the 4 seats at the table. Then began our wait for a server. While we watched other parties who arrived and were seated after us be waited on and actually served their drinks, we had not yet been acknowledged by a server. After 15 minutes, a server came over and asked us if we'd like to order drinks while we waited for the other member of our party... We then again explained about the ill family member. He then took our order. Two members of our party ordered juice and I ordered hot chocolate (since it was 19F outside). I was hoping for a delicious hot chocolate but unfortunately the served hot chocolate was powder based and was not fully mixed with powder floating on the top and in the bottom of the cup. The omelette, Eggs Benedict and French toast were without fault. The only other issue was the continued disorganization of the hostess who seated several parties (after us) at tables that did not accommodate their party size and she was calling across the restaurant to the different servers who she had moving tables, chairs, etc. It was very disruptive while people were trying to eat their meal and carry on conversations.
My wife and have been traveling all throughout New England to celebrate our 1-year wedding anniversary and D.C. is our final stop. We’re staying at the Sofitel and just wanted a nice relaxing outdoor dinner and Ici was absolutely perfect. We had the duck, wagyu steak, and some truffle mashed potatoes. It was all outstanding. Would absolutely recommend.
This is the restaurant attached to the Sofitel at 15th and H, and thus has an obvious French emphasis. I wanted to grab a tasty dinner with very little fuss, and in this sense, Ici was a good choice. The Wagyu flatiron steak was definitely a reasonable price for Wagyu, and it was reasonably tender and flavorful. The peppercorns seemed a bit too aggressive (at one point I thought the steak was charred / burnt on the outside, until I realized that I had bitten into a peppercorn), and not necessary given the interesting sauce. The French Pinot Noir ("The Seeker") was a nice pairing, though, and I am glad I saved room for the creme brulee for dessert. Note that this can be a somewhat challenging menu for those with severe nut allergies (like I have).
We had a pleasant dinner in this restaurant located in the Sofitel Hotel. Atmosphere ... Casual Elegant. Menu and Preparation ... French Inspired. Price Range ... Moderate to the low end of Expensive. We found the food to be excellent and the service attentive but a little rough around the edges. All in all ... Recommended.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary over dinner at Ici Urban Bistro. I had not been there previously for a dinner, though had a number of business lunches (all excellent) there in the past. We decided to try it because, having worked in Japan for five years and spent time in France, we were intrigued by the combination of classical French cuisine prepared by a Japanese executive chef. I did not mention the anniversary celebration or make any special requests when I made the reservation. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly at a table by a window looking out on 15th Street -- quiet corner, nice view. Our waiter, born in Morocco, offered well-informed, courteous suggestions regarding choice of food and wine. The sesame crusted tuna carpaccio appetizer was delicious. For the main course we opted for wagyu -- Kobe beef, produced under license at the Snake River Farm in Idaho, we were informed. Generous portions, perfectly cooked and presented, well complemented by the side order of champagne mushrooms. Our dessert of "La Belle Hélène testified to the superior skills of the pastry chef. An excellent experience, with overall cost comparable to what one spends at other top French/European restaurants in the Washington area. We used the valet parking associated with the hotel/restaurant -- $15 is a reasonable price by Washington standards.
Visiting Washington DC for my 65th birthday, stayed in the hotel where this restaurant is located. Too cold to go out and about so looked at open table for reservations, earliest was 6.45 pm. But when we went downstairs the restaurant was empty. That was confusing, still we enjoyed a nice meal and the restaurant did start to fill up !
The entire experience was delightful. Extra modern but discreet and comfortable ambience. Very nice menu with new and old favorites at very reasonable prices. Great wine/champagne list too. The service was excellent until the end when it took time to find the waiter to pay the bill. Otherwise nothing to improve. I am going back soon.
Wonderful patio for early brunch for those of us that don't want to wait until 10 or 11 am to eat. Delicious food. The only downsides are smokers who hang near the hotel door and right now there is street work going on, so the melodious sounds of a jackhammer might be paired with your meal. Also the birds are aggressive, so guard your food! Umbrellas and trees make for a shady outing. Tables are spaced well enough so you shouldn't have to shout to your companions to be heard. There are sofas as well. Easy stroll from McPherson Square Metro.
Came here for a business lunch on a beautiful day. We were seated outside, where there were comfortable tables and chairs, and nice big umbrellas that shaded the area. We had the soup and sandwich combination lunch, which was fine. The place was not so loud so we could have a good conversation. It was a good spot for an outdoor lunch on a nice day!
As working 30-somethings downtown we wanted to treat our friend to a special birthday lunch, but didn't have much time. These guus were amazing. Super attentive and the 30-min lunch creations were just delicious. Yes, it's a bit on the expensive side, but worth it. They even gave my friend a beautiful dessert with here name on it- birthday success!
We were there on a Tuesday night, so the crowds were small. We received outstanding, attentive service. Everybody enjoyed their meals, which included several appetizers, soup, entrees and dessert. The drink menu had enough options to choose from. Overall, we were very happy with the dinner for our party of 6.
ICI continues to be a great place to eat, and drink! We recently met up with a visitor and her five year old daughter. The service and meal that ICI provided were really great. I had a small suggestion for my meal and this suggestion was immediately given to the chef.
Great place for a business breakfast - menu and ambiance. The mix of customers is tourists and business people and the location - near Metro - makes it easy. Highly recommend the eggs with smoked salmon. I substitute tomatoes for potatoes tho' it appeared, since my dining companion got the same meal and didn't substitute, it comes with one broiled tomato half. The potatoes, btw, are a mix of colors and looked delish.
Three mature professional women, cousins raised together, seeking a quiet restaurant, with tasteful ambience, attentive service (no buffets), very good food, other like-minded patrons and (only) a subtle nod to Christmas. We found just what we needed and wanted in Ici Urban Bistro. Raves for the winter salad and the perfectly cooked venison. Could be the start of a family tradition.
No regrets at all for choosing this establishment for our Christmas dinner. It was beautiful and the food was top-notch. We had a late reservation on 12/24, and still the staff was so courteous and gracious to avoid rushing our courses.
Never found out if they have a baker on-site, or whether they used a local patisserie. Either way, the walnut bread was amazing. Venison was very tender even "saignant" (sous vide?).
Amazing fare, fair price, and some wine that made mon petit ami forget he wasn't having a 5 hour Christmas supper at home in France.
Six of us had Christmas dinner here, and it was a wonderful surprise.
Food, ambience, service - all were delightful! The amuse bouche, beet salad, venison and cod were incredibly good.
Really enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend it to anyone - such a surprise
for a hotel restaurant! Great French food!
