Ichi Ni Izakaya - St Kilda
The Izakaya style restaurant is a visual feast that has combined modern dining with a traditional twist. Multi level seating, private booths and year round heated decking ensure each visit is as original as the first.
Ichi Ni accommodates a full and traditional Japanese menu that caters to all tastes – yakitori, sushi, sashimi and Japanese tapas. You won’t have difficulty finding the perfect drop to go with your “Tabemono” either… an extensive beverage menu offers sake, cocktails, fine wines and a range of Japanese beers to compliment each meal.
Great good and the seating was just right
We very much enjoyed our visit
Amazing food, staff work extremely hard keeping up with all the patrons. They deserve big tips.
Waitress upsold us at every chance
Table was sticky
Chicken was cold... wasn’t meant to be
Lighting was awkward- down-light right on our heads
Surely disposable chop sticks should be banned by now for sustainability reasons .. but they also feel very cheap
Once Ichi Ni was good but has gone right off.
This is my favorite Japenese restaurant. Consistent service and really good food.
As my wife suffers a few food allergies, the staff were very helpful with selection of meals she could have.
Hands down, THE BEST Japanese I've ever eaten. Incredible menu, super fresh, delicious food and fantastic service. 11/10
Great food and service as always. I've eaten here many times and always enjoy it. I would not hesitate to recommend it.
Ichi Ni is a pretty solid izakaya. They do a good variety of Japanese food, some with a little twist.
Always fabulous! Wonderful decor, ambience, service and location. Tends to be noisy, certainly the noise of happy diners enjoying their experience. Noise level perhaps more rekevsant to acoustics of the building.
The food and ambiance was great - would definitely go back! Only thing was that our last main dish came quite late after the rest of our food, we thought it may have been forgotten! Other than that, everything was spectacular.
Went out for a fun dinner with friends after they showed us around Melbourne. There were four of us and we opted for the banquet dinner. The food was incredible and you should ask for a booth if you’re sitting around sunset. Stunning view. The food was actually a bit much for four - would have been better suited for five or six people!
Always great! It’s a favorite of ours! We’ll be back - good is delicious but a little pricy - but worth it for the view!
The food was amazing had so much flavor is a bit pricy but worth it here and there
The food at Ichi Ni was lovely. What I did not like were the sticky tables, they don't seem to have been wiped down for years; the noise level on the 'enclosed verandah' area was extremely loud however I noticed that inside the restaurant the noise level was much better and the other customers were noisy and judgmental. It was unpleasant environment. The waiting staff were very good.
Always enjoy the dining experience at ichi ni just felt it was a little of the usual very high standard.
Will be back again for sure.
Expensive, but the quality of food and service was very average. The only pleasant part was the location of the restaurant.
Great Location, Good Food and Drinks menu. Sunset dinner at its best.
Enjoyable and efficient service
Execlent service !! Food was amazing. Thank you for a great time for my mum 70th. You catered for all ages and food preferences!
The food was amazing, the service was great and quality wise you get what you pay for so it is really worth it. Definitely reccomend!
Absolutely love the food at Ichi Ni and often eat there, unfortunately our service this time wasn’t great as we ended up having to get up to ask for another water glass as there were two of us and we only received one. We then weren’t offered drinks so had to get up again and ask to be served. Hasn’t happened before so I’m sure it was a one off!
Really appreciated how facilitating the staff were for my group, making sure everyone's allergies and dietary requirements were catered for. Thanks for the wonderful night!
Worst prawns I've ever had! We went for the EBI YAKITORI as they are the signature dish and they were dry stringy and tasted old and frozen
Probably wont be going back anytime soon!
The furnishings are starting to look a bit dated and service was haphazard but the food was reasonably good.
Awesome service, food and ambience. Looking forward to coming back!
Food was mediocre. Not authentic Japanese.
Great food, great atmosphere, polite staff. Can be a bit pricey but overall great.
The food and service was fantastic. We are particularly impressed given that it was New Years Eve and so obviously a very busy night.
Beach views in sight. Outdoor, Semi-Outdoor, and Indoor table options. It was a beautiful day, so we chose to sit on Semi-Outdoor which served comfortably. Restaurant was full, and we sat next to a large group of around 16 guests. Although there was noise, we were comfortably able to maintain our own conversation; the open setting helped this. Starters went a long way as we paced ourselves with a bottle of sake and sauv blanc; edamame beans with a delicious tomyum dip, yum gyoza, chicken skewers, and some baby softshell crab. Sushimi platter was diverse in meats and all tasted fresh. Desert.... highly recommend you try the trio of home made gelatos, unforgettable array of flavour options (rosepetal+pistachio, macha match really well), also try the chocolate filled spring rolls. Mains didn't blow me away, but in terms of a pleasant evening and stimulating setting, with (a lot of) good alcohol, I was happy with the value of $270 for two. I'm left with good faith to come back to try other dishes ~ 4.3 stars
Birthday celebration! Food was amazing
Sensational food choice and premium quality product.
Highest quality Staff experience
The service was awful and we had to bed waiters to take our orders.
The food was below average and really just really poor to be honest.
Would never recommend for anyone to pay good money for bad service and poor quality food.
Had international visitor
Coctails at $20 is pretty high. I have the Gyoza and they were divine the rest of the mean was a bit ordinary.
Very overpriced with tiny servings, ordered the set menu for 4 and was embarrassed by how little was served. Also the wrong food was served even though the restricted menu was listed at the reservation as well as discussing it with the waiter on arrival. I have sent a detailed email to the restaurant outlining the complaint but have not received a response. I would not recommend this restaurant based on this experience.
Food and ambience was amazing! The tempura was great, the California rolls a personal highlight. The service, while friendly was quite slow. 45 mins in between food coming out was a bit crazy and we did need to ask for more water (on a 38 degree day while seated outside). After 45 mins we asked if the remainder of our food was coming and it showed sucpiciously quickly after we asked! At least they followed up all of our requests!
overpriced, sushi was poorly put together. service was rushed. better for big groups, not good for dates or romance. also, the booking asked if it was a special occasion, which it was, yet that didnt seem to change much, whats the point of asking then?
Fantastic evening experience! We will definitely be back 😊
The location for a warm night or afternoon is perfect! Sitting outside on the decking with the St Kilda ambiance and views. The food was good, however, it was busy and service was slow and some dishes / drinks forgotten. Wait staff were helpful in checking and following up
