Hy's Steakhouse Vancouver
Very good food and service!
The steak, the room, the privacy. The reasons why you go to a steak house are all fulfilled greatly by hy’s. I would eat there weekly if the budget allowed
Always great food at Hy’s. Food quality is consistently good and we had a lovely server. Also nice to be able to order Burrowing Owl Pinot Gris by the glass!!
Old school service with outstanding quality. Can't say enough good things about Hys Encore. Love it!
Excellent meal, a treat for a special occasion with family visiting the city. Great service. Good pacing of presentation and attention to detail/checking how the meal was going always appropriate. Good valet service too.
Amazing quality! The steak of course is perfection. Great service. The crème brûlée was the best I ever tasted. Would definitely revisit this restaurant again.
Slightly better than the Keg, but not as great of a steak as I was expecting. And server felt very robotic.
We'll definitely recommend this place for a steak. It was delicious.
Had never been before so we were looking forward to a fantastic steak dinner. We started with the “must have” cheese toast — honestly, it’s no big deal. Bread with loads of melted cheese — worth $10? No.
Then we got the 2nd must-have: table side prepared Caesar salad. It was very tasty but honestly I’d rather have not seen how much crappy canola oil they use, with the explanation that olive oil is too overpowering for such a salad, when obviously its cos canola is cheap.
I got the “mixed grill” special (3 diff 3 oz cuts — tenderloin, rib steak he got the 20 oz rib steak. I was asked how I wanted mine cooked (med-rare) and he was told the chef recommends medium for his rib steak so he went with it (I was curious why my little 3 oz wouldn’t get the same treatment).
All in all, the food was good, but not outstanding. The steaks probably should have been rested a bit as they lacked in both flavour & tenderness on first bites but progressively improved. Our server was very friendly, attentive and explained everything clearly altho we had to remind him to bring us the cocktail list. He did recommend an absolutely fantastic wine tho — maybe the highlight of the meal.
Husband got the bananas foster for dessert and I got the pistachio crepe brûlée, along with some cognac loved the pistachio!!
The bill with tip came to just under $500. Way too much for what it was. We did get to hear happy birthday sung at about 6 different tables so there’s that.
Came back here after 2 years and experience wasn’t as good as I remembered it. While the Caesar’s Salad was good, the table service wasn’t done at tableside due to space, so that was a bit disappointing.
Must give props to the nice server filling the water, as she was totally on top of it. Came by at least 6 times. Perfect.
My wife and I truly enjoyed our experience at Hys on Saturday. The food, service and atmosphere were second to none. Will definitely recommend this place to others. Keep up the great work!
The meal was delicious. The cheese bread was spectacular and the filet melted in my mouth. Andy was very personable and the service was excellent. I’d highly recommend this terrific restaurant.
I took my wife for dinner for our 10th wedding anniversary. Steak was great and left stuffed. The cheese bread was also delicous as we're the drinks and atmosphere. Next time we will sit downstairs so we can watch all the steaks be cooked!
Always perfect service. As a family, we return to Hy's in Whistler and Vancouver for incredible service.
I indicated on OpenTable this dinner was to celebrate our anniversary. The staff didn't even say "Happy Anniversary." Perhaps they thought two men couldn't celebrate an anniversary. Or perhaps they don't do anything for anniversaries.
But a couple nearby had a heart-shaped dessert that wasn't on the menu. Something told me they were celebrating an anniversary.
We usually go to the Keg for our anniversary. The staff there wishes us a happy anniversary and gives us cake. (I love the bread there, too.)
The Hy's waiter was very nice. Just right. Not overbearing. But always there to help if we needed something.
Ketchup and mayo for fries arrived halfway through. But overall, service was great!!!
The fries were awesome. Oops! I misread Beef Wellington. I thought the foie gras and oyster mushroom duxelle were baked in pastry, not the steak.
BEEF WELLINGTON Filet of beef tenderloin, with foie gras and oyster mushroom duxelle, baked in puff pastry. Served with red wine reduction.
The menu is actually grammatically correct. My mistake! But where was the red wine reduction; I didn't get that.
Would I go again? Not sure. I'll think about it.
First time @ Hys tonight ... everything was exceptional!! Take the first timers advice and order the cheese toast, it’s a must! We had the beef Wellington and it was soo delicious.. table-side Caesar salad and Bananas Foster was 👌 . Big thanks to Our server Dan for the excellent hospitality!
- A happy couple :) C & A
Beyond the call service.
It was amazing steak.
Celebrated my one year wedding anniversary and my wife and I had a great experience.
I've been going to hys for years but this.last visit my steak was not that good. Requested med rate, I got rare and the cut.of.porterhouse was not that good. Also it was cooked and had a fishy flavor to it. Like fish sauce....very strange. Love hys but it might be a while before I'm back.
Outstanding food, ambience, and service. A classic restaurant with attention to detail
The famous cheese bread is a must! The trio steak feature was delicious. We will definitely return as there are many other dishes we wanted to try!!!
Birthday. It was good experience. Chad our waiter was friendly and informative.
Celebrated a close friend's birthday. Started with the famous cheesy bread and the appy scallops. Bread was excellent, scallops were okay. Slightly on the dryer side and the sauce was quite sour (passionfruit beurre blanc) I find that sauce pairing was a bit strange. We ordered a 8oz filet and a 10oz NY and shared that. The NY doesnt look like a 10oz, looked rather small. (I also work in the same industry and a former place I worked served 10oz NY and they are significantly larger) the filet was excellent, very nice and tender. The NY was a bit disappointing. It was a bit dry and not as tasty as I would expect from a high-end steakhouse. Also has a bit of over-charred flavour (almost a burnt) but both steaks temperatures are good. We ordered them medium rare. We also ordered 2 sides: creamed corn and asparagus. Corn was good, sweet and creamy. Asparagus was good but had few pieces were tough and I had to spit out. Also, asparagus is overpriced at $15. We also ordered 2 steak sauces; peppercorn demi glaze and the port demi-glaze. The server didnt warn us that was too much sauce. The sauce portion is huge and we could of definite cut back 1 sauce as we couldn't even finish half of the sauces. Didn't try any of the tableside dishes so I couldn't comment on that. Overall a decent experience but we were too full for dessert, so we skipped. Surprised they knew it was my friend's birthday and they didnt do anything about. No complimentary small pastry or any small dessert with candle. That part was rather disappointing. Value-wise I feel it's overpriced. We spent $225 incl. Tips. Didnt have any wine or desserts or it could be easily 300-400. Service was decent but nothing spectacular. 3.5/5 overall.
Everything from the moment we arrived was stunning. The restaurant itself was beautiful, the waiter was attentive, courteous, and knowledgeable, the cheese on toast (I Know!), was to die for, and the steak was as good as any I have ever tasted.
We have booked again for Sunday before we return to England.
Everything was great, my wife and I had not been to Hy's for many years and we were not disappointed - it was as good as we remembered it. Our server Karen was fun and helpful, she really added to a nice evening.
My family were visiting from HK and this experience was really one of a kind. The best steak ever 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The food was beyond exceptional, the service was beyond phenomenal, and atmosphere was comfy. This was our 50 year anniversary and absolutely loved the experience.
The food is excellent, the server is polite and knowledgeable. The only problem is there is a table with a 3 month baby beside us, and the baby's cry is loud. The baby normally cry for 3 minutes, then the parent took the baby out for 5-10min, then come back cry for another 3min, then going out again, etc. This remind me why I don't go out eat much while my two kids were young. For this dinner, I finally got my kids to my parents home, so my wife and I can have a peaceful dinner, but then......... there was other people's baby beside us.... lol
Never disappoints...a taste of the real Vancouver. Real Caesar salad and excellent service. Steak prices are insane but that seems to be the norm these days.
Co-worker’s farewell lunch
The steaks were very good. both cooked to perfection. The overall ambiance and noise level was acceptable for the meal. Appetizers were also very good. Side dishes were a little bit plain such as fries or mashed potatoes, and the dessert was not as great as the steak.
My boyfriend has wanted to try Hy’s for a long time so we came here for his birthday dinner. We had a great time and enjoyed a delicious bottle of wine, two appetizers (the scallops were delicious!), filet Mignon, and cheesecake dessert. The service and food were amazing. We can’t wait to go back!
Never! It was Birthday dinner surprise and our reservation was canceled 5 minutes prior, because of fire in the kitchen. No follow up , offering to reschedule etc.
In my opinion, Cheese bread was tasty and soft. Onion soup was the best in town. The steak tartar was good. However, chicken salad was minced chicken meat cake instead of fillet. My husband’s rib eye was so so. It was too darkened and meat quality didn’t worth $60.
Hy’s was my favorite steak house 20 years ago. With a very comparative market in Vancouver, they need to work harder to win customers. I might or might not recommend it to friends for steaks when there are lot more choices out there. Otherwise the services were excellent.
Everything was good, service, food. Family was happy with the experience.
Great way to celebrate birthday. Cheese toast is as good as the hype. Fish platter excellent husband loved filet. Felt like our waiter was there just for us.
I still think Hys the best steakhouse in Vancouver.
You have to have the cheese garlic toast, the steak was unbelievable.
It’s not a trendy loud steakhouse like some of the other new ones, it’s just a great place to take someone out for a special night
Reminded me of the old Hys .... congratulations your back
Everyone says to get the cheese toast. They're right. Over the top. I wasn't too hungry so I ordered the wedge salad and two sides, my husband also ordered the wedge salad, filet mignon steak, and a side. Everything was delicious. The portions were huge. Salads were lovely, the best wedge salad I've ever had, and that would have been enough for me. Steak was done to perfection (I did have two bites just to test, of course) and the sides! I was thinking the usual five spears of asparagus and a small branch of broccoli. WELL, both were cooked perfectly and I did manage, with help, to finish the asparagus but took home the broccoli. Must have been almost a pound of each. Why did we wait so long before dining here?
