Melbourne Hwaro Korean BBQ is a place where one can fully enjoy that authentic Korean taste. Located in the CBD the restaurant is always full, even on the weekdays, as the smell of the BBQ floats down from the terrance stopping people in their tracks.


Just like mother used to make
Taste is something Hwaro is particular about. Taste is what owner and chef Eunsook Kim is mostly concerned with. Her dignified and somber character, reminds many people of their own mothers.


Kim herself is essential to Hwaro. The preparations for all the meat and sauce available at Hwaro are handled by Kim alone. This includes supervision of the slicing of the Karubi (boneless short ribs), and preparation of the 23 different ingredients* needed for the hot pepper Sangyu Pusaru seasoning. Nearly all of the seasonings lined up on the tables are Kim's own creations.

    Booked online 20 mins from our arrival which was amazing, we were seated quickly and order was taken promptly food was delicious they cook in front of you over coals and you get a selection of accompaniments. All delicious and we chose the bimbibap* forgive my spelling it was also delicious set menu D! Highly recommend, friendly helpful engaging staff that made the experience more enjoyable. Will be back.

    This was our first trip to Hwaro and at first we were unsure how many people each of the sets served, however the staff immediately came over and were super helpful in explaining the sizes. We have a party of 4 and the suggested set was perfect. The food was simply amazing! The meat melted in the mouth and the sides were delicious. We will definitely be returning soon!

    Cannot recommend Hwaro enough. Excellent service, delicious food and a vibrant atmosphere. In a city with plenty of Korean BBQ options, Hwaro is easily the best.

    Overall it was a good night, my only gripe was we only got 1.5hrs before we were asked to leave as the table was booked for another group and we felt a little rushed to eat our meal and leave. The food was very nice.

    LOVED IT!!! amazing staff service, quick deliveries of food and staff were attentive to customers! Went here on a cute double date, and everything we ordered was delish and I can't wait to go back ✨ Great for groups dining it and loved the buzzers on the table!

    Only concern is that the employees kept coming to our table and flipping the meat for us every 5-20 seconds. At the time we didn't say anything but looking back on it, my girlfriend and I would've told your employees to just let the meat sit and cook before we flip it. At one point, the meat was flipped and then 5 seconds later someone else came by and flipped it again. In total, I reckon employees came by to our table between 15-20 times to flip the meat, we didn't really get a chance to flip it/cook it ourselves

    Food was delicious and great value. Service was fast and friendly staff. Only odd thing was that yhey were very particular about seating arrangements. There were multiple free tables and no other bookings, we still had to wait for "our table" to be ready .

    Waitress was very kind and food was really good. They did try to push us out at the end by cooking our food for us on a burnt plate but other than that it was really good.

    Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff, was seated next to the larger seating areas where shoes had to be taken off, consequently had a slight odor throughout my meal but other than that it was a very lovely experience
