Innovative yet homey korean dining. Reminds me of more homestyle atomix
Innovative, fresh and very flavorful Korean food. Presentation is flawless. Is still a hidden gem, recommend going for a date night or special occasion. Would not be surprised if it receives a Michelin star next year.
Love this place! Food is great and atmosphere is clean and beautiful. It was just perfect!
Excellent Modern and inventive Korean restaurant. The food was a delicious and modern take on traditional Korean dishes with superb ingredients.
Service was esxcellent and the retsaurant was elegant without being stuffy.
A really wonderful experience.
I recommend it without reservations.
We have dined numerous times at the sister restaurant, Kosaka, so we were excited to try the new place. The service was terrific, and the restaurant was very comfortable, with soft lighting and elegant tables and chairs. Of course, the food was the best! I lived in Korea for a year, so I have some experience with the cuisine, but this was altogether something else. Original, full of fresh ingredients, and very delicious. There were too many things to try in one visit, but we had the lotus root and the scallops for appetizers and the bipimbap, salmon and braised pork belly for the mains. The scallops and salmon were beautifully presented with spicy, but not overwhelming sauces. The Korean staples, like bipimbap and pork belly, were updated, and served in a nouvelle cuisine style that is very appealing, and will make this restaurant that we will visit regularly.
NOT worth the price of what it is. Maybe if they made it a la carte, it would be more worth it but the food is just too mediocre compared to the price of it. The food is something I can pay under 30 for at any other restaurant (for more and better tasting), yet here i'm paying 55 + tax +tip? Ugh no way.
Delicious and graciously served Korean restaurant.
Excellent Korean cuisine prepared under the watchful eyes of Mihyun Han and her team.
This is a beautiful, austere restaurant serving both traditional and creative Korean food.
Food was a higher quality than what you would you get at a typical Koreatown restaurant but it still maintained its authentic Korean taste. Deliciously spicy - not for the fainthearted! Small portion sizes, though. The service was great, waitstaff was very attentive.
Beautiful restaurant with lovely ambiance that is perfect for date night or a quiet night out with a friend. The aesthetic is great and their floral arrangements are great. Service was very subpar. Their food, while large in portions for a tasting menu, is average. Neither totally traditionally nor that creative, I would say it is way too sweet. Overall, was a good experience but would not return.
Hwaban table meal was superb. Well prepared and well presented. Service was exceptional.
Hwaban is excellent—beautiful delicious and truly HEALTHY, pure-tasting food in a beautiful quiet setting with warm service. I can’t wait to return.
Not being familiar with Korean cuisine, the food was very flavorful and we all enjoyed our experience
Totally expectations. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was exceptionally presented. A wow on all counts.
I generally am skeptical about authenticity when it comes to "modern" Korean dining. But this place came across as more a tapas/sharing/small dishes type of place so thought it would be fun to try. Actually, food is very authentic and delicious. It's just presented more pretty than your traditional Korean restaurant. You can share everything. Very delicious, I thought it was well priced. The only disappointment was that we ordered a $100 bottle of wine and it was not chilled, but they immediately put it in ice for us after an initial small pour to get the temperature down. The Korean "juns" (like little pancakes) were very good - the fun take on it was that instead of regular soy sauce, it came out with a soy sauce jelly.
Very good food for price
3 of us placed individual bento box brunch orders with one of them being a special request due to medical issues (no rice due to diabetes).
Only 2 of us received food. The special order of "replace rice in RICE/sweet potato side with more sweet potato" never even came out.
We were told that sweet potato had already been mixed with the rice. This was not true, as one of the two of our other orders also had rice/sweet potato side and we could clearly see that the diced sweet potato was just on top of the rice, not mixed in, as we were told.
This restaurant, that could not accommodate a minor dietary request, left a bad taste. This restaurant, that goofed up one order of the 3 that left one person hungry and the other two angry, should have at least apologized. Alas, it did not happen.
Delightful! Delicious & beautiful Korean dishes! Impeccable service! Extra attention to detail! My new neighborhood gem restaurant! One of the most gorgeous pastries with spectacular floral designs. Thank you for a wonderful birthday dinner!
Tasty, stylishly presented food in much too small portions. The oxtail was especially good -- I wish there had been more of it
The food was great and we even got a chance to chat with the chef who was lovely. Grey dining experience. Eloquent dishes with great flavor pairings.
Delicious, beautiful food. Modern, minimalist decor. Portions were small, but I was adequately full after the meal. We had the scallop appetizer and I got the sea bass. My partner got the oxtail. The food is very carefully and delicately prepared.I would guess that this place will get a Michelin star in the near future. The service could have been a little faster and the dessert (we had cake) could have been better (cake was beautiful but dry), but overall great experience.
Great job, great restaurant. I'll be back
Since we were already fans of Kosaka, the second we found out that Mihyun Han had another restaurant we rushed to make a reservation. And we did not regret it! The food is absolutely delicious -- we loved everything we eat there! For apps we tried the Sweet Shrimp, Dubu and Lotus Root Salad. As entrees we had the Rice, Rice Cake, Oxtail and Beef Short Ribs. For desert we had the Tropical Pavlova. We honestly loved everything we ate here -- you will not be disappointed by any of these dishes. That being said, the Dubu, Rice Cake, Rice and Short Ribs were out of this world good. I especially recommend these particular items.
Highly recommend, we had a great experience here and will definitely return to try out more of the menu!
Fantastic food, exceptional and attentive service, and an immense attention to detail. Spices pair beautifully, with portions that are generous but not overwhelming. Rice cakes with beef and a homemade-decorated pastry are must-haves!
Fantastic experience. Best Asian restaurant in town in my opinion ( after Masa).
Absolutely amazing experience. They staff was superb and obviously prod of their restaurant as well they should be. Perfect blend of Korean with a contemporary touch. The deserts were delightful all with a sublime environment
Very well done interpretation of modern Korean cooking plus excellent cakes and desserts at Hwaban. Will be back.
The staff could not have been more outgoing. The food was fantastic, the flavors were unique and spectacular. Very cozy seating, the waiters explained all the dishes and were very informative. Very nice experience all around.
Brand new, lovely decor, amazing service, fit for foodie Korean restaurant in Flatiron/Un Sq!
it went well 😃
Impeccable service and food. Celebrated my birthday here. I would come again!
Fantastic food, the rice cakes and spicy chicken were exceptional, as was the pavlova dessert. Look forward to our next visit!
