Hutong brings you contemporary and occasionally fiery Northern Chinese cuisine, dim sum, and cocktails, served in an elegant Art Deco room inspired by swinging 1920’s New York and Shanghai. Hutong welcomes you to our New York home at, 731 Lexington Avenue.

    The food is probably the worst I’ve ever had in my life. And the price for the food? I have no words. Especially with the banging of drums right next to us. It was a band of 3 people and they were each playing a different song. Absolutely terrible experience. Food was horrendous.

    Second time never going back. Was as bad as the 1st!!! Cold food and barely no fosh in dish!!! Biggest rip off ever and was not even hot second time around. i plan to call amex for refund other than the wine!!! So overpriced for no food!!!!

    We were treated very well, they communicate with you ahead of reservation very well, set all the expectations. We had the duck and loved it. Go hungry because it was a lot of food for two people but after running around non stop in NYC we were ready. For sure it was a great experience.

    We visited Hutong New York on Valentine’s Day and opted for the special menu. Unfortunately, while the restaurant was clean and the service was friendly, the overall experience did not justify the high price tag. The cocktail we received was disappointing—served in a plain glass with no effort in presentation. The dim sums were visually appealing, but at $24 for just two pieces, they were mostly dough and hardly worth the cost. As for the Peking duck, we ordered the half duck, but what arrived was a quarter portion first, with the other quarter served separately, chopped into small pieces and mixed with beans in a sauce that was far too spicy for my taste. While the skin was crispy, the meat was cold and lacked flavor, which was quite underwhelming for such a renowned dish. In the end, the meal was overpriced and underwhelming. For the premium pricing, we expected a much higher level of execution, especially on a special occasion like Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, we left feeling that the experience did not live up to the expectations. Would we return? Unlikely.

    I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. First of all, they couldn’t find my reservation in their system, which has never happened to me at any other restaurant before. This was already frustrating, but things only got worse from there. After being seated, I waited for five minutes without anyone approaching me: no menu, no greeting. I had to ask for a menu myself, which should never be the case. Throughout the meal, the servers seemed like they absolutely hated being there. They seemed to hate their job. The food was disappointing: not authentic and not good. Aside from one bartender, who was actually helpful, the service was awful. Definitely will not return.

    I love Hutong, but today the service was just plain bad. Every other time we have been to Hutong, our service was really great. Hutong is expensive. You should be able to have good service. I asked for lime to go with our sparkling water. It never came. I finally had to go to the bar and get it myself. We ordered some Dim Sum and the Flaming Duck. The Dim Sum was supposed to be served first. They served the Duck first, then the Dim Sum arrived after as an afterthought. The restaurant was out of many of the choices of dessert. I did say something to the manage. He gave me the standard apology. I don’t think we will be back anytime soon.
