"With Huszár, we reach back to our roots. My mom would often tell stories of her family life in Hungary, and my dad would often reflect upon his military service there that he was so proud of. However, it was the stories of my grandfather being a proud Huszár, handpicked to serve as an elite soldier on horseback, that I draw my inspiration from. Their stories instilled me with a deep pride in my heritage."

Huszars is authentic Hungarian cuisine. The owners are Hungarian and they invited a Hungarian chef to create the menu and perfect the dishes. Now the sweet couple who owns the restaurant maintains that menu to a T. The food is absolutely delicious!!!!!
Food was excellent
If you are looking for true Hungarian food you have found the right place.
Huszar is a place NOT to be missed if you are in the Pittsburgh area - it's during times like these that all MUST patronage these small family owned businesses - Judy and Michael were extremely friendly and the food was "over the top." Even if you can sit in the restaurant please place a take out order and you will never be disappointed. I can't wait to get back to Huszar when in town and know that my family that lives there will be there quite often - thank you Judy and Michael - Keep up the good work!!!

Huszars is authentic Hungarian food. It was absolutely delicious, possibly the best food I’ve ever tasted!
Everything was amazing and much more than we expected. We stopped in for our anniversary dinner and the experience exceeded our expectations. Judy, the owner, walked us through the menu with any questions we had as well as suggested a wonderful bottle of Hungarian red wine. We started off with a potato pancake, enjoyed a few sides of red cabbage, cucumber salad and pickles. Our entrees were quite delicious as well. We couldn’t stop eating. We ended the dinner with an apricot jam crepe. The service, food, & ambiance were great. Judy also delighted us with stories of her life in Hungary, which added to our special evening. We will definitely be back!
Everything we ordered was delicious. We will be returning.
The delightful husband/wife owners make and serve wonderful, authentic Hungarian food. A neighborhood gem. Our first time there was for a special birthday, but it would be a good choice even for everyday dining.
Huszar offers a unusual menu of Hungarian cuisine. Pittsburgh is full of people of east European descent but doesn’t have many places that offer this kind of food! Everything is of great quality and delicious!
With all of the pitfalls of The pandemic, one of the pluses was meeting and talking to the owner, Judy. She can tell you the history of her families bar and restaurant as well as the history of the dishes.
If you want to try something new, different and delicious, give them a try!
Delicious homemade food in a very comfortable setting. We were served by the owner who explained very well the dishes and demonstrated her love for the the food and culture of Hungary.
Terrific experience and highly recommended.
Third or fourth time here. The food is awesome! This is a small corner bar. The main reason to come here is the delicious food. So far we have ordered stuffed pork chop, pork loin, mushroom paprikash, lečso steak - everything is amazing! The sides are delicious too. Roasted potato, sweet sauerkraut, the little dumplings, side salads, potato pancakes. I want to go again this week!
Excellent food and personal service.
Pittsburgh needs to recognise this restaurant for the gem it is!
The food was wonderful. Service was also great!! I felt like I was part of the family. All of my kiddos loves it too!
Great service and authentic food and atmosphere - like being in Europe
The people here are amazing and friendly! Great company and smiling faces to add to great food! We will be going back with out a doubt!!
Wonderful hidden gem! Very cool ambiance, the Hungarian live band was fabulous and so was the food!
A fun place with the surprise of some great Hungarian style musicians serenading us.. but pretty small and limited seating. With reservations, we were offered the bar or a high top table. We took the table! Very busy while we were there on a Friday night. While the music was great, it made conversation impossible until they took a break. The food was good! Not a place for light eating since everything has meat, sauce with cream, or cheese!
Fantastic meal experience.
It was amazing! I went with my hungarian friends and they were even impressed. Loved the music as much as the food!! Will def be back very soon!
Huszar is a Pittsburgh gem. The food is unique and delicious. The nightly music is wonderful. You truly are in a restaurant in Hungary. Fantastic place, amazing food, great deal. You owe it to yourself to check this place out as soon as you can!
A bit of Pittsburgh corner bar, a bit of backstreet Budapest cafe. A little funky and good fun. The other night was our third visit and they had a trio--violin, standup bas, and cimbalom (!!!). It's not haute cuisine a la a Michelin restaurant but authentic enough to be worth the trip. Don't let the location or outside appearance bother you.
Absolutely fantastic Valentine's Day dinner. Service was prompt and freindly. Live music was charming. Food came out hot and clearly cooked to order. Delicious!!! Will be back for sure.
Very busy so waitress was a bit frazzled. The musicians are fantastic. The appetizers were so so but the entrees were some of the most delicious meals ever
Great atmosphere, delicious food, and terrific band. The trio of upright bass, dulcimer, and violin gave a nice ambiance without being overpowering. We loved the food and can’t waiting to go back to try other things on the menu!
We will go back. Everyone working was very nice and the food was very good
Hole in the wall hidden gem in Pittsburgh. Live music, greet food. Friendly service. Goulash was outstanding.
The evening we dined at Huszar we wonderful. The service was excellent, helpful and friendly. The Hungarian wine and beer a nice accompaniment to the dinner. Totally recommend trying them.
There was a Hungarian trio playing that was very good and helped make the evening special.
The next time we go Huszar we are bring friends and make it a party.
Great down home feeling--places like this are what makes Pgh great. Nothing fancy or pretentious here, just good, stick to the ribs Hungarian comfort food, tavern atmosphere, wonderful staff and fantastic music. Looking forward to going back!
Most of the feature menu items are pork and they were out of pork at 7 on a Saturday night. The Hungarian tasting platter consists of processed cheese, Aldi-grade sausage slices and Wonder Bread. Service was very friendly but slow and disorganized. The music was great, though.
Food was good. The steak on the meat platter was very dry
What might seem like an unassuming little place ended up being a wonderful experience with some of the best homestyle comfort food I’ve had in a long time. Our group happened to come on a night when there was some great live entertainment to go with the incredible food and the service was fast and friendly.
Excellent good atmosphere and staff. Great value. A Gem
Food and service very good but music was too loud for conversation
True Hungarian food. Delicious. Small and can be loud at times, especially if there is live music. Parking can be difficult but so worth it.
Great food and entertainment! Wish we were closer, we’d be here every week. Can’t wait to come back.
Pre concert dinner swith family was enjoyed by everyone
The Hungarian cuisine was authentic, made from recipes from a master chef. The Langos (fried bread) appetizer was especially good, the Goulash satisfying, and chicken paprikas was delicious! Topping it off with the traditional Gundel Palacsinta dessert crepe capped a memorable meal. Music by the Budapest originated Royal Trio made us feel that we were in a cafe by the Danube! A friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere makes Huszar a unique dining experience- a hidden gem in Pittsburgh
The music was great and the staff super friendly! The food missed the mark! I was expecting more traditional authentic Hungarian food! The food lacked rich Hungarian flavor the Goulash soup was more like vegetables soup with some beef in it, however the small dumplings in the soup was tasty were tasty!
excellent!!!! The music pulled on my heartstrings since I am Hungarian and the food was EXTRAORDINARY!!! Service welcoming fast and friendly!! Cannot wait to go back!!!
My family and I all loved the food and were delighted to have live Hungarian music to enjoy! Thank you for a terrific evening.
