   Low-key dining experience in an authentic family-style Hungarian restaurant. We love the mascot on the wall and wide variety of European beers, wines, meals and desserts. Warm and friendly service in a classic Pittsburgh joint.

   Great authentic Hungarian food. Small place which adds to the vibe and the staff is very friendly. Exterior is a little intimidating, but don't let that dissuade you as you will certainly feel welcome as soon as you step inside this cozy eatery, Nice selection of European wine and beers.

    I was looking for an Eastern European restaurant for a quick visit to Pittsburgh. Found this place on open table and booked for a Friday lunch. It’s in a great old corner Tavern and cozy. We were among only a couple people there in mid afternoon, so I can’t speak to the noise level when it’s full. Menu was just what I was looking for -hearty Hungarian staples. Also I was super pleased they had a selection of Tokaj wine - which we had both a dry with lunch and a sweet for dessert. I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Good beers on draft too. Our server was attentive and charming. Only thing to be aware is no parking right outside, but around the corner is street parking I gave 5 stars cause it was exactly what I was looking for,

    Excellent succulent savory traditional Hungarian cuisine. If you grew up with it, you know it is real. All your basic plates with some regional dishes for variety. Full bar. Attentive waitstaff. Warm and welcoming owner.

    What a great little gem, almost hidden, on the Northside. Very friendly staff, it's a quiet little hole-in-the-wall kinda pace, but the food is excellent. I have a friend who was a refugee during the Revolution in the 50's who comes to town often...I am bringing him here!

    Came in from out of town for the weekend. Saw that there was a Hungarian restaurant and had to go. We had the chicken paprikás with dumplings and the pork schnitzel and potatoes. All very authentic meals I’ve had several times in homes in Hungary. My boyfriend is still talking about how good the potatoes were. But really everything was outstanding. The restaurant was clean and welcoming and the woman serving us was graceful and efficient. I would come back any time. Köszönöm!

    Ate here 7/19/2022. The food was 5 Star. The service was 5 Star. It is a cute place (inside) with a neighbor-hood place ambience. Only downside was that many of the wines on the wine list and many of the beers on the beer list were simply not available.

    Great atmosphere, felt like visiting family! My wife and I enjoyed our meals, portions were pretty large, we took some left overs home so we could try dessert, which was delicious, just like everything else we had at the restaurant 😋

    Huzsar's is worth a visit. It's Pittsburgh's local Hungarian restaurant with good food and amazing desserts!! It's small so definitely get a reservation as it is popular with locals.

    Huszar is a piece of Hungarian Heaven. Set in a well worn neighborhood bar this Hungarian hideaway has the best ethnic food in Pittsburgh!! We were celebrating our 48th Wedding Anniversary and our daughter’s 47th birthday so I thought a glass of wine was called for. Our genuinely nice and helpful waitress suggested a semi sweet Hungarian wine which was cool and crisp and the perfect choice. We tried the red cabbage salad, the creamy cucumber salad and a bowl of decadent and delicious cream of onion soup. All choice were excellent and we will have them again. We saw a delicious looking bread pass by and decided to try it - big mistake - now I know I will be craving that crispy fried bread covered with sour cream, garlic and shredded cheese daily!! Our entrees arrived and we dug in - chicken paprikas, pork chop with bacon and cheese and pork schnitzel with tiny dumplings coved with a rich mushroom gravy. All three were excellent with generous portions. We couldn’t resist desert and tried a delicate crepe with apricot, crushed nuts, whipped cream, chocolate and a touch of rum. We also shared a classic Apple strudel with just the right amount of sugar and a dollop or two of whipped cream. Needless to say we will be back! Fabulous evening, food and service!!

    My boyfriend and I were visiting Pittsburgh for the weekend. The restaurant was recommended to us and had high reviews. This was our first time at a Hungarian and Eastern European restaurant so we did not know what to expect. Upon arriving our waitress was extremely kind and provided us her recommendations for the entrees. The environment was laid back and embraced the Hungarian culture, which we really enjoyed. In terms of the food, we were very disappointed. Our appetizer was the fried cheese and rice. It was underwhelming, what we expected to be a warm melted cheese was a solid block of slightly soft and cold cheese. As for the entree, we ordered the 3 meats (beef, pork, chicken) and potatoes, with two side salads/vegetables. The potatoes and vegetables were the highlight. The meats were inedible for our liking. They were rubbery, thin, bland, and dry. Overall, our experience was different to what we expected and would most likely not go back again.

    We found this place randomly and decided to give it a try. We reserved a table for 5, but the layout of the place doesn’t really allow spacing and has the potential to be tight if there is a decent crowd. Fortunately, it wasn’t crowded and we were ok. Our waitress was so friendly and helpful, even though she was the only one there. We didn’t have to wait long for the food and she provided great recommendations. The food was amazing!!! I had the chicken with mushroom gravy, and the chicken piece was huge with ample gravy and ample dumplings. My sister had the stuff friend chicken which was also phenomenal. We also did desserts and those were good also. The location and the interior may leave a little to be desired - it’s definitely a home style place. But the food and service more than makes this a must visit!

    First time here and we were all satisfied with our meals with some minor room from improvement. The steak in the Lescos steak could have been a larger portion and the mushrooms paprikas was on the bland side. The service was very good and the restaurant practices good social distancing. Several of the dessert items were not available. We will return.
