food ok, but.... Regarding the Hummus Place on 7th ave, when there is one server working, the manager will take 50% of their tip. I refused to come in anymore because I did not think it was fair. After speaking to NYS Dept of Labor, under § 146-2.18, this is illegal! Section 196-d of the New York State Labor Law prohibits employers from demanding, accepting, or retaining, directly or indirectly, any part of an employee’s gratuity or any charge purported to be a gratuity. Ask any server currently there and they will tell you that they have to split the tips with manager if there is no one else there, while he is getting paid as MANAGER. it is against the Labor law for manager to take any percentage of tips, even if they help with taking orders, and cleaning tables. They have been reported!
