Hummus Bar & Grill Ratings and Reviews
We love, love, love this restaurant. The food is outstanding and the servers are extremely nice, friendly and personable. My only complaint is the noise level. Their acoustics are awful so you can only hear the person seated next to you. You have to yell across the table to talk to someone next adjacent to you.
Upon arrival, I told the host I have reservations for 2 at 9:15 pm under name. He asked us where we like to sit. I said anywhere is fine as long as it’s inside. So he seated us in a corner. The place was not busy at all for a Sunday night, yet it took forever for a server to come. Finally a guy came and brought out little dishes of olives, pickled cabbage and some kind of tomato sauce. A few minutes later, another guy came with the bread, and noticed we do not have any drinks. The second guy seemed nicer than the first guy and took our drink order. The first guy later came back and took our order. Mind you, everything seem to take forever for each server to come. We were done with our meal and we had actually requested dessert in advance, but to bring out after our meal. The service was so slow so I asked another guy (since our original server was never to be seen again) if it’s too late to cancel the dessert. He said I don’t know, let me ask. He said it’s too late, it’s ready for me. I said fine, can you please box it. He said ok. The service was just strange and we honestly didn’t like the ambiance. I don’t know why but I felt like the patrons there were snobby? It’s like you have to speak their native language to get proper attention. Also, the Lakers game was on so I don’t know if the servers were busy watching the game in the other room? Anyway, the food was really good, but we just wanted to leave. I had to wave another server’s attention and ask if we can get some boxes and to bring my boxed dessert. He said there is no dessert waiting for me. I said ok fine, please just make sure I am not charged for it. Then the kicker, after we left the restaurant, I checked my email and saw a cancellation of my reservation made by the restaurant ! I couldn’t believe it. I called the restaurant and they said OpenTable did it and I need to contact OpenTable. This was so annoying. This was my first and last visit to this place. Shame because their mushroom hummus is great.
Had confirmed reservation email. Arrived at the restaurant and was told they tried to reach me by phone that they have no table available in the restaurant and then offered the far table in the parking lot on a cool night without a functioning gas heater. They had empty tables inside claiming those were reserved. Four of us left very upset and disappointed that open table reservation was not honored. This restaurant should be eliminated from open table as one cannot rely on making a reservation. Should note that we patronized this restaurant many many times over the years and this is the first disaster but also our last visit. There are many others even better. We were embarrassed in front of our friends
Has always been a good place to enjoy authentic Israeli cuisine. Large portions, tasty food, reasonable prices. Can be noisy at times but that is also part of the dining experience. Have been going to Hummus Bar since its opening many years ago, would recommend.
I had not been there i a very long time. When I go out to eat, I care about ambiance. The restaurant definitely needs a face lift. It's run down looking. Just a face lift, put in new lighting , some industrial looking decor/touches would make a huge difference!!!!
We ordered the shashouka and it was amazing! Our server was very nice and attentive. And with the Groupon, it was quite a deal.
We found this on Open Table while passing through the neighborhood. Food was fantastic. Middle Eastern. Large portions. Tasty, good value. They have a hummus of the day or special hummus on Saturdays and it was delish. Ambiance-- not so great. It's a large resto in a mini mall. As we entered, there were about 10 older men on the patio smoking cigarettes or cigars or talking. Old school type. Inside there were sports on large tvs. I was surprised that the quiet spot I requested was under a mute tv with a soccer game. Not ideal for ambiance but OK.
I wish I could 5 star all the way but we were greeted by the host that expressed a tone of contempt that our reservation was for two and we arrived with three; fyi, I notice on this confirmation that we did request seating for 3..... just the same, the place was near empty on our arrival so I don't understand the issue...
The waitress poorly expressed to our guest what the fantastic salad offering was all about....it required me to repeat in more understandable terms what the menu was all about....
Thank God she went on break mid way through our dinner and was replaced with a gentlemen that made us feel comfortable and fun to be there finally....
