At Hummingbird we recognize and celebrate the importance of community, in its myriad variety. Our goal is to create and maintain a place for all kinds of people to gather and forget for a moment the world beyond our walls. Ours is a place to eat, drink, and enjoy the company of others. We hope to be a melting pot where differences matter less and the shared common ground is the enjoyment of time spent together.
This was our second visit. It didn't live up to the enthusiasm generated on our first. Food was a little disappointing. Service and outdoor seating were fine and some of the food choices were interesting but others were a miss. All in all our first visit was an experience that warranted a return. Our second visit will likely turn out to be our last.
Beautiful night on the patio at Hummingbird - love the lighting. The four of us shared (somewhat reluctantly ;) the whole fish, fried chicken livers, chicken wings, fritto misto, Panzanella salad, deviled eggs, and fritters along with a bottle of wine - it was all outstanding. Eric was great and kept us well served while we savored every bite. Big thumbs up!!
Enjoyed our first experience. We will return again
We really enjoyed the food and experience. Many good options of small plate sharable and larger plate dinners. Great job of offering unique taste and preparation of common items. Definitely will be back
Food was totally excellent! We loved everything we ate! Very good service, too. When our waitress was occupied, others came and checked on us. The only small complaint was that the inside part of the restaurant was incredibly small. Sitting out on the patio in warm weather would be fine but you’d have a very hard time getting into this restaurant if it were cold out due to the small number of indoor tables. Otherwise, we just loved it and will definitely be back and will recommend it to others!
One of the best restaurants in Raleigh for foodies.
Great patio and delicious food. The service was kind of vacant and erratic but we would go back!
The food was less than impressive. My dinner had absolutely zero taste and my friend's was just a steak and fries and the fries tasted stale. The best part about our meal was the Panzanella salad and dessert. Service was also fairly slow and it was not very busy. She was very nice, but we had to flag another waitress a couple of times for assistance. I hear their brunches are great, but I would not recommend for dinner.
We enjoyed the funky, unusual vibe. The food was creative, beautifully presented, and very good. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The service was attentive.
The food was amazing. Very flavorful and combinations that I don’t find many places. I haven’t been to a lot of places that serve small plates and large plates, but we got a little of everything. The drinks were super cool too. Definitely craft cocktails and not just like a normal drink with a cool name but really unique. 10/10 would go back again. Very cool area over there.
Food was delicious! I had a great time with friends.
Hummingbird has a very nice vibe to it. It has lots of outside seating (which is great when the weather cooperates) but very little inside seating. Service was good but the menu was rather sparse. I enjoyed the oyster and shrimp po’boy but can’t speak for the rest of the offerings.
Made a reservation for an inside table on the open table app and confirmed day before we were going, got to restaurant and were seated outside. We were told there was a big party coming in and outside was all that was available. It was too hot and humid for us to enjoy date night dinner outside so I went to host stand to tell them we were going and got a non apology apology of “I’m sorry you feel that way.” We left.
Got a call from Theo that the problem was with the open table app reservation system and she would like to do something to make it up to us, I couldn’t give her a date due to work/travel plans in the next couple weeks, gave her my contact info and hope to hear from her soon.
A phone call prior to us getting there to let us know our reservation wasn’t available would have been a big help, backhanded non apology didn’t help.
Place has good reviews, we didn’t have a good experience
Great food. Great service. Great staff. Great location. Owner and staff are welcoming and kind. Great experience. Just simply great
The sausage and gravy could have used more seasoning throughout the dish, all other dishes were enjoyed. The server was attentive and the host(owner’s sister) was lovely.
Love the food and the service but the kitchen is slow. Took almost 45 mins. To get breakfast and only received one slice of toast.
I asked for another I was charged $2. This was at 10:30am and only two tables outside was taken and one customer at bar. The shahshuska was awesome , my steak and eggs were cold and sad. Next time we will only come for drinks.
The food wasn’t bad but it was also not great. I will not be coming back to Hummingbird. I really wanted to like it because it’s in my neighborhood and very convenient for me. I ordered the steak which was well cooked and tasty but the fries were terrible. I could get better fries at McDonald’s for one dollar. The service though was the worst that I’ve had in Raleigh. The waitress never came to take our orders so we had to go inside and order ourselves. She was soo bad. I tend to be very generous when giving reviews and this is my first ever negative review of a place. I hope the administration can do something about the service because it’s a shame that such a nice location and ambience gets shadowed by lack of attention to details in the food and terrible service.
The round, backless stools inside aren’t very comfortable and make for an awkward dining experience.
We ended up inside which was a little tight for five people near the hall for the kitchen. Our waitress wasn’t very attentive, didn’t refill waters or anything. Food took a really long time and we had event to leave for. The food was good. Tomato pie was a hit as were the potatoes with remoulade. I feel like it would be better sitting outside and just hang out if you didn’t have somewhere to be.
The food is not worth the price and the service has been terrible the two times I’ve gone. I would not recommend going if you’re on any sort of schedule at all because the service is very subpar.
I had read some poor reviews so I was apprehensive about our visit. However, everything we ate was delicious and wonderful. We shared 5 small plates and 2 large plates among 4 people and were very full. The service was a little slow and they did run out of a few things by 8:30pm, but overall it was a really nice experience and we would go there again.
There was someone new in the kitchen for brunch and it took our table and others an hour and 15 minutes to get food. Never got our last dish (ricotta fritters) because they came out raw to two tables and 30 minutes later still couldn’t make them. Service was good though, and they comp’ed our food.
Absolutely Delicious! The four of us shared small plates and drinks in the outside dining space. The food and service were top notch and the space was warm and welcoming. We will definitely return.
Brunch was brought out to two of our patrons 20 minutes before the other two. When biscuits and gravy were brought out, there was a curly hair on top. :(
We had the tomato pie, the biscuits and gravy and the oysters. Only the oysters were disappointing - very small, few in number for the price. Couldn't finish the tomato pie as it was so rich. Maybe more tomatoes, less cheese?
We had a very nice patio seat, and high expectations based on the menu, but left relatively disappointed. I want to root for this restaurant and it’s cool spot and interesting menu, but it missed on Friday night for us.
Ordered two mixed drinks (brandy one and mezcal one), ok but flavors were only fair
Ordered two apps: chicken livers fried too hot, not enough remoulade; smoked oysters had odd texture (not necessarily their fault?). Neither met the bar
Ordered sides and dinner to share: sausage and clams (fair, needed more bread for dipping); squash casserole (oddly large, al dente squash in soupy bechamel sauce); okra (pretty good, balance of savory and veggie); and bread with anchovy butter (fair, and I really like anchovies)
Dessert was tasty, but a bit late to cover the dinner misses.
We may give it another shot when the menu revolves again.
Great for a special occasion and for foodies
The new menu is fantastic; and the cocktails are very good.
Good, but not great. The menu is very limited, and some dishes are real misses. Drinks and dessert were very good.
Awesome food and service. The avocado toast and fritters are so good. The Agua Fresca is refreshing
Food took an excessively long time to come out. 45+ minutes. As my party was very understanding of kitchen delays, we didn't feel the same symbiotic attitude from the staff.
All the food was good except the waffles of the fried chicken and waffle dish: the were burnt. Our order took almost a hour which shouldn’t happen for brunch. They were busy, but the restaurant was not packed. We asked several times when the food was coming out and were told “it would be right out”, which did not happen. No apologies or any explanation of why it took so long.
I had a higher expectation based on the posts I’ve seen on Facebook and Instagram. The quality and the flavor of the food was good, however I don’t think that outweighed the poor service. In my opinion two hours for a simple branch is way too long. They had overhead fans which were not turned on, resulting in a lot of flies on the table. When the check came for our group, they hadn’t split the bills. There are so many good restaurants in the area I won’t feel compelled to come back to this one.
Beautiful restaurant. They were unfortunately out if the one item that my husband was going to order so we had one drink and left. We will try it again.
The food was great and the ambiance was pleasant. The service was okay for the most part, but the server threw away the leftover food I wanted to take home! She did not offer anything in compensation either, which was especially irritating.
Farm fresh to table. Cool vibe great cocktails too! It’s a must for brunch.
My wife and I are vegetarians. We had plenty to chose from and the service was great. They are dog friendly too.!!
Open for breakfast, lunch, & dinner.
You can’t go wrong.
The menu sounded full of great options on paper but every single thing we ordered fell short. The cocktails were probably the worst part. We ordered a few house cocktails...again sounded good and were anything but. We ordered a Makers and coke - got a Manhattan. We ordered a Mojito - it didn't have a single hint of mint.
It was a lovely place to have a late Father’s Day brunch! The service was attentive, food was tasty, and we sat outside.
Great place! My friend’s egg dish was undercooked but she politely ate most of it anyway since she was unsure if it was supposed to be that way. She informed the waiter and he said he would tell the chef. We thought she would get a slight discount but did not.
