The overall experience was amazing. We were a party of 11, who ALL had a great time. The only disappointing matter was that the food all came out at different times, spaced over 20mins between every couple plates.
But worth another visit for sure.
Our waitress was very nice. The food was good. Loved the ambiance. We has the crispy chicken sandwich, the chicken katsu dish and the pasta with tomato basil capellini.
Had shared appetizers and drinks, which were good. Service was good. No complaints. Went at night, so we could not see any views of the bay, but the inside of the restaurant was nice. Will be returning later sometime during the day for a regular meal.
Was looking forward to seeing the newly remodeled hotel and this restaurant.Good reception by the hostess. it was not very crowded at all and I was seated at a very visible table.
I was ignored by the server and finally left disgusted.
To bad since I’ve lived in Hilo area for 42 years And could have referred many friends here.
Hula Hula's used to have the best pizza (on flatbread) on the Big Island. Not anymore. I called in the morning to confirm that they still had it on their menu, and they said yes. At the restaurant, I asked our server to confirm tha the pizza was on flatbread. She said yes. The pizza arrived...and not on flatbread. Just an ordinary, just OK pizza.
Cozy eatery with a great view of Hilo Bay. Lots of seating for group and best for lunch to catch the view of Hilo Bay.
Very nice restaurant close to home. Great view of water. Kamaaina discount of 15% and free desert for the birthday person made it a great deal!
We made reservations easily on opentable. They had live band and hula which was great. I ordered the fish taco and it was soooo good. Our server was awesome. I just wish they gave us a complimentary dessert since it was our anniversary.
Nice place to grab a drink and snack and with a view too!
Glad the Grand Naniloa is finally almost all functional! While this hotel and restaurant offers a great view of the Hilo Bay, the friendly service (especially for a Hilton) needs to be more polished. We know ITO is suppose to be laid back...but meals, once ordered should not take nearly half and hour! Food taste and quality was not bad.
Food was delicious , service needs improvement, ambiance super nice and calming , needs improvement on making mixed drinks such as “Lava flow”, waitress needs to work on catering to customers needs and not her own . Need more Aloha friendly staff ! The friendly bar tender came to help out his waitress and was very sociable immediately getting us started on our drinks ! Otherwise it was an okay experience only because the food was good !
Toast was burnt black on one of the breakfast meals. The other was ok. The breakfast buffet was so-so; scrambled eggs and bacon were good but the papaya was hard or mushy (and papaya is plentiful and grown here). Not enough fresh fruit variety, one of the juice containers was empty and never refilled, and potatoes tasted like they were cooked much earlier.
Going away dinner for returning soon to graduate son and dear friends. Loved the ambiance and service. Only thing was parking. Friends had to park valet for $20. Found out about validation later.
My family and friends enjoyed the food, however, the service a bit slow. We waited for almost an hour before we could order our food.
Food is good, service needs to improve; next to the bar with a band so think of it twice if you’re into a quiet dinner time.
Im a steak kinda guy, best ribeye on the Big Island hands down!!!!
We had reservations for 2 for our anniversary. Receptionist congratulated us on our anniversary (as I had noted it when I made the reservation), sat us at a table set for 4 people marked "reserved" next to an occupied table. She cleared 2 of the settings and gave us menus. We were then served warm water, which made me wonder how long that pitcher was sitting, but ok, we can ask for more when our waiter comes. Then we received no service for the next 20 minutes. A waiter made 3 to 4 stops at the table next to us. Four of the workers, including the person who served us water and the waiter for the next table, stood to the side in the short walkway talking in plain view of us watching them and they seeing that we had not been served but no one made an attempt or came over to ask if we had ordered. The waiter made a stop at the next table at which time we decided to leave. We approached him to tell him we had not been served and were leaving. He then offered to check what happened! In the back section along the window where we were seated only 4 tables were occupied, two on our side and two in the other corner about 3 tables away which was served by another waiter. We were very, very disappointed as we had heard some good things about the restaurant but what happened is inexcusable as they were not even busy. The water server said sorry and the receptionist said sorry as we passed both and explained what happened. We had a very, very nice dinner at The Ponds Restaurant without any reservation. We want to try Hula Hulas again but staff need to be trained properly.
Great smiles and service from the servers but the food was okay and expensive even after the kama’aina discount.
The service was a bit slow. Our appetizer was ordered and there were 4 of us. We ordered the poke and the edamane and was not given any utensils or small plates. We had to call the waitress for the utensils after the appetizer was served. We did not get our main dish ordered until after the appetizer served which took about 15 min. We did not get any refills of our water until well into our entree's. We had to ask for utensils or napkins when our entrees were served. By the way it wasn't very busy at around 1:00 PM on a Friday.
I'm disappointed in your menu changes and I won't be back. :(
The restaurant was very beautiful and the service was timely but we were the only people in the whole place. Their lunch menu is minimal and vague and over priced for the quality of the food. Or server was nice but a bit clumsy. It wasn't terrible but I probably won't be planning to go back for anything special agian.
We enjoyed our meal at Hula Hulas on our vacation. The food was fresh, not too fancy but tasty. We had really good service too. Nice evening!
My husband and I went for a long awaited date night. First, I found the layout of the entertainment vs dining odd - sitting at a table with a reservation, we could not see the band at all which disappointed me since I knew one of the artists. Our server was kind though not very knowledgeable about the wines. We decided to forgo pupus so ordered dinner right away. One of our plates was fantastic - the mac nut crusted ono was moist, delicious and paired well with the Thai peanut sauces. The other plate was a train wreck - a teri steak with prawns. Ordered medium, the steak came out raw with both blood and meat VERY red. We sent it back but there was no noticeable change in the color of meat when it came back. So we sent it back again. Upon getting the plate back the second time, we decided it was inedible at that point - the prawns were severely overcooked, the rice dry and the steak was tough, had an off-taste that went past the teriyaki flavor and was verging on well-done. I was disappointed they didn't re-plate. In the end, they took that plate off our bill and comped us a dessert. I won't go again for dinner since it was pricey for getting only one out of two plates right although I would like to sit at the bar and enjoy the entertainment at some point...
Great food, a little loud for us but I’m sure it’s not always that way since it’s attached to a hotel.
The restaurant feels tired. The way staff was very attentive and considerate. We were in the middle of traveling so did not get drinks. We ordered pizza and a beet salad. Both were fine but the greens were wilted and appeared to be sitting in the dressing for some time.
Waitress Mary was awesome! She totally understand service, which enhances the meal.
Hula Hulas was a very good restaurant, except for our 2 fish dishes which was Ono and Snapper. The taste was OK, but the fish was little over cooked or because we got our dish later, it just cooked itself to over cooked. Other than that the service was excellent especially where we were seated facing the ocean and not in the same area of the live entertainment. If we were seated in the live entertainment area this review would not have been rated higher. Because it was a birthday event, we just didn't want any loud noises constantly. And we didn't even get a free complimentary dessert dish for the birthday person or a song from the staff. You might consider doing these small taskings too increase business. Besides other restaurants do these things to make the birthday a special event for the person.
The best burger I've ever had! Home grown Big Island Beef. Incredible!
We enjoyed the live entertainment. It was a bit pricey, but very good food.
Tabbi provides us with excellent service. Recommended her favorites. Took the time to explain desserts and never rushed us to order our food. Mai Tai was really good and goad cheese and mushroom pizza was very tasty! Great place to relax, aside from the noisy tourist who was raising his voice for no apparent reason. But other than that the ambiance was very nice. The only negative was that my reservation wasn’t counted when booked through opentable. Other than that, everything was great!
We had a business meeting during lunch and the view is beautiful, just right in terms of the atmosphere. The menu was limited and the prices are typical higher that the local restaurants but we understand it caters more to the tourists who are willing to spend more on vacation.
Had the kalua nachos and goat cheese pizza. Had to take TUMS after. I am not lactose intolerant so that is not the problem. I hear the other items are better so dont order what I did.
Our entrees has a flaw(s). My pork chop was very tough and dry where I had a hard time chewing and swallowing. So I only ate the veggies and mashed potatoes. The other entree was super salty. And the other entree, the fried chicken was raw to the bone for every piece of chicken. The service, she did not make us feel comfortable or welcomed.
We enjoyed fathers day dinner...especially dad with his 2 granddaughters enjoying all people and food
Bland fish tacos served with chips. The smallest glass of wine I have ever received! (And it was $12.)
Nice location tho.
Menu was limited.. not enough choices for lunch. Wish there was more sandwiches.
This is my new favorite place!
I can’t say anything remotely bad about this restaurant. In fact, I look forward to returning and seeing what other creative dishes will be on their menu next!
