Founded in 1988, Hugo’s restaurant sits at the edge of Portland’s historic Old Port district. In its third generation of ownership Hugo’s continues to offer refined and delicious cuisine. We source our produce, game, fish and meat locally—we’re lucky to work with Maine’s best ingredients. With our tasting menu, you can join us for a couple of courses or an extravagant feast!

Like our pantry, our dining room is dependent on Maine’s best: sculptors, painters, carpenters, and iron-workers collaborated to create a space that evokes our location. Wrapped around our open kitchen, a large red birch bar occupies much of the interior. With its exposed brick walls, soft wood tones, and plush leather, the dining room’s modest luxury sets the stage for an unforgettable meal.

Everything was outstanding. My cocktail was one of my favorites ever and the beet bolognese was one of the top 5 dishes I have ever had! However the smoked carrot dessert was lackluster.

Chefs tasting option was an amazing experience! Very unique atmosphere and the service was stellar. Highly recommend giving Hugo’s a try!

Really great food. Enjoyed everything we ordered especially the beet soup and scallops. Our server was friendly and helpful. It's a little cold sitting in a booth by the brick wall but then it was only 9 degrees out.

Great tasting menu. The place is cozy. Rich and warm natural woods and fibers. Our only issue was in the below zero night the frigid air from the front door was distracting. We did the tasting menu: 11 courses with pairings. Food was really creative and surprising —- like the deep pink beet stew which covered some amazing beef. Wine matches not too great. Still worth the money.

Simply fantastic. Loved being by the large open kitchen. The chefs answered all questions and were extremely good natured Loved the whole evening from beginning to end.

Hugo's is wonderful. The food, the service, the atmosphere, everything. It is a place where you dine rather than eat and you need to plan to make an evening of it. Absolutely fabulous!

My husband & I dined at Hugo's on Saturday evening 12/16 and it was amazing. We both selected the tasting menu that encompasses nine very different courses. Each small course is a mystery until it arrives at your table. The food was delicious and it was such a fun way to enjoy a meal. As this tasting menu is pricey, it is not something you would select regularly. I would be inclined to dine again at Hugo's tasting their regular menu.
