Had the tasting menu with wine pairing was fabulous. Great experience
Loved it. Great staff great food
If you're a bit adventurous, Hugo's is so rewarding. You wont find familiar dishes on the menu, but everything we tried was perfectly cooked, interesting and most of all, really delicious! Don't skip dessert! We ended up with a seat at the bar after making our reservation on opentable, which I thought was odd, and the bar seats were really awkwardly uncomfortable, so it loses a few points there. But we still had a truly special night and a fantastic meal.
From the time we walked in the door to the time we left, Hugo's was AMAZING. the service was a solid 12 out of 10. We went with the Chef's selection, it was outstanding, every dish was a surprise and each dish seemed to be better than the last. It was my wife's birthday and boy did they remember. From the card to the champagne! HIGHLY recommend a visit to Hugo's!
The lobster/pasta dish was very salty. The service was not up to fine dining standards. One wait staff for a full room, table was not cleared of crumbs etc between courses, waited over 20 min for coffee and finally had to cancel the order.
Service was impeccable, thanks to Sarah! Parking is in a lg. lot ~1/2 block down the street; there are 2 stairs up, w/out railings :( yet they do offer bringing out a ramp, for mobility impaired diners; restrooms, very nice & are on the same floor, no add'l steps. Interior warm wood & leather decor, but cushions a bit worn (not great support, but not horrible either), the booths worked well for us. Each dish we tried was FAB!! I loved my chicken roulade, hubby enjoyed the beef & the desserts were uber creative! First time visitors must listen well, as your server explains how their menu is set up, in regards to quantity of food. These folks do Fine Dining in a creative & fun way....I was so glad we chose Hugo's for my B.Day dinner; we will def. return! Did I mention....Sarah is a peach!
We traveled 3 hours for this meal - it was our second trip just to eat and we expect to travel to eat with Hugo’s at least 2/3 more times this year
My boyfriend and I were visiting for the weekend. We stubbles upon Hugo’s on a Saturday and had one of the best meals! Our waitress Sarah was very friendly, she was very knowledgeable of the menu which is always a plus! We were offered a piece of fried smelt to start our meal which was excellent. We ordered the tuna poke, fluke crudo, smoked lobster & squid ink pasta, whole branzino, oyster stew and finished with crepe Suzette. The whole roasted branzino was probably my favorite. We cleaned the plate! It was one of the most memorable meals for us. Definitely worth a trip!!
Incredibly delicious food with unusal gourmet presentation. Servers there when you need them. Very relaxed atmosphere.
3rd time and we feel lucky to have Hugo's nearby. We have a fish focussed tasting menu and all the dishes were creative and tasty. The sommelier paired us a bottle from Sean Thackrey which was just beautiful. If you live in or near Portland do yourself and a loved on a favour and book soon.
Guests from out of town so we wanted to give them a special food experience in Portland. Couldn't have chosen a better place. We stuck to lots of small plates with imaginative food pairings, fabulous cocktails, great wine list, quiet so we could actually carry on a conversation without shouting and very attentive wait staff who carefully explained each item as it was brought to the table. Next time I'm going back to sit at the bar and watch the show.
Valentine’s day. Paul and Justin terrific. Tasting menu never seemed to stop. Thoroughly enjoyable. Look forward to next opportunity to go again.
We had an outstanding meal at Hugo's. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Attentive but not annoying. The chef sent a few special mini courses to us in between apps and dinner course and for dessert. The meal was incredible.
Blind chef’s tasting was amazing!
Everything was outstanding. My cocktail was one of my favorites ever and the beet bolognese was one of the top 5 dishes I have ever had! However the smoked carrot dessert was lackluster.
Chefs tasting option was an amazing experience! Very unique atmosphere and the service was stellar. Highly recommend giving Hugo’s a try!
Really great food. Enjoyed everything we ordered especially the beet soup and scallops. Our server was friendly and helpful. It's a little cold sitting in a booth by the brick wall but then it was only 9 degrees out.
Great tasting menu. The place is cozy. Rich and warm natural woods and fibers. Our only issue was in the below zero night the frigid air from the front door was distracting. We did the tasting menu: 11 courses with pairings. Food was really creative and surprising —- like the deep pink beet stew which covered some amazing beef. Wine matches not too great. Still worth the money.
Simply fantastic. Loved being by the large open kitchen. The chefs answered all questions and were extremely good natured Loved the whole evening from beginning to end.
Hugo's is wonderful. The food, the service, the atmosphere, everything. It is a place where you dine rather than eat and you need to plan to make an evening of it. Absolutely fabulous!
My husband & I dined at Hugo's on Saturday evening 12/16 and it was amazing. We both selected the tasting menu that encompasses nine very different courses. Each small course is a mystery until it arrives at your table. The food was delicious and it was such a fun way to enjoy a meal. As this tasting menu is pricey, it is not something you would select regularly. I would be inclined to dine again at Hugo's tasting their regular menu.
While food was exceptional, the cost was too high to recommend to any of our friends.
Experience was spectacular, but the overall temperature was chilly. Bring a sweater!
As always dining at Hugo’s is an unforgettable experience. The food is second to none. It is creative with unexpected flavors melding into food that makes you close your eyes and embrace the flavor.
Hugo’s never disappoints!
Our favorite way to celebrate our anniversary. The tasting menu brings an endless stream of beautiful dishes that please both eye and palate. Our waiter helped pick the perfectly matched wine. Outstanding experience.
This is one of the best meals I've had in Portland. The food was creative and well-done. The service was just the right balance of professional/attentive and friendly. The food may be a bit too "exotic" (e.g. duck tongues) for some, but it was a nice balance of traditional and creative. Yum!
Unforgettable! Thank you for an amazing evening. Service and food were impeccable.
Never disappoints! From the spectacular service from Patric and his team to the innovative and fantastic culinary feast. We always look forward to coming back over and over again.
There is the tasting of the chef that was delicious the only issue is that you token to long to get the courses and A meal that it it starts at 6:45 can end at 8:45 that's two hours Long. It's very tiring and not the optician.
Hugo's delivers excellent food and this is an important statement, given that Portland's standard is quite high. The dining experience is a team effort by the entire staff and the pace of food is spot-on. Most importantly the food portions are perfect and the flavors are very well done. Nothing over the top (i.e. truffle oil). But confident seasoning. And creative too. For either the prix fixe or a la cart, it is a memorable dining experience and well worth the time and money spent. Great job, Hugo's.
just extraordinary! all my wife's dietary concerns were handled perfectly. my beet soup with beef shank and beef chicharon was just an unexpected treat. my whole bass was cooked perfectly and the baby bokchoy and sticky rice maed it just scumpcous . the real beauty was our apple desert with a rose on top, but the rose was thinly sliced fresh apple slices to appear as a rose, just wonderful!
The restaurant was, as always, fabulous. The food is unusual and at the same time completely familiar. I would heartily recommend Hugo's to anyone.
The best meal I have ever had in my life. Great service, very accommodating to my dietary restrictions. Chef’s tasting menu is the bomb.
One of the best restaurants on the planet. No joke.
Incredible, as always. I have never had a negative experience. I love the menus and the staff. I can not recommend Hugo’s highly enough. ...try the white negroni. You won’t be sorry!
Dining at Hugi’s Is a great way to spend an evening!! The food was spectacular, the service excellent and the value is good. I would recommend it to anyone - and be sure to give your self the time to really enjoy the experience.
As usual, Hugo's delivers. My recommendation is go for the tasting menu, and let their excellent chefs have their way with you! It's an almost-endless stream of beautiful, delicious morsels.
Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy, though - dinner with the tasting menu takes about 2.5 hours. Living in New Jersey, I don't get to Portland very often, but when I do, dinner at Hugo's is not an option, it's a requirement.
We went to Hugo’s to celebrate a birthday and were greeted with a bubbly beverage and ended our meal with the best funfetti cake we’ve ever had. Great dishes with sublime flavors and excellent service.
Another wonderful evening with spectacular food and wine! We are happy to have found your brilliance!
