Fun place, great food ... and plentiful, but we were there for a business-type of meeting and it was a little too loud for that. Perhaps it was our location, but keep that in mind when planning to go here.
Our go to place. The best service, Montrose or Art. High quality, perfectly prepared food.
Our waiter did a nice job in explaining the menu and specials and treated us very well! This was our second visit to Hugo's downtown and we will be back again in the future.
40th Bday, our of town guests
We had a reservation for 7:30 on Saturday night. We ultimately were not seated until 8:20. The hostess indicated our table would be 15 minutes late (so 7:45) and that we could get a drink at the bar, which was a joke because the places was so mobbed you couldn't get near the bar. The entryway area was also packed. People were trying to get in, out and through so we spent 50 minutes being pushed, bumped into, stepped on and generally feeling like cattle. The hostess was professional but at no time did anyone apologize or try to explain the problem. They acted like this was a normal situation to endure. When we were finally seated the service by the dining room staff was very good, but again, they made no mention of how long people were waiting or what a mess the reservation/seating situation was. Had either the hostess or the waiter acknowledged that it would have gone a long way. Two of our party's dishes (the sea bass and crabcakes) were excellent and one (the shrimp) was overcooked and tough, and the bread was dry. Overall the dining experience wasn't enough to overcome the annoyance and frustration of wasting a good part of our evening packed in the entryway. The restaurant has been in business for many years so clearly they have plenty of experience to know how many reservations they can accommodate, which leads me to believe this wasn't an accident or a one time thing but that they don't really care.
Our dinner was fantastic! Joel was a pleasure to serve us.
Only complaint we made reservations weeks ahead of time and they still ran a hour late to seat us.
Bar was packed.
We were at Hugo’s on a very busy Saturday night. The staff handled it well. The food was incredible and so was the wait staff. We actually were fortunate to be seated in the Churchill booth. Not our first time at Hugo’s and won’t be our last!
10th year in a row Elise and I have dined at Hugo’s for our special Holiday Dtown Chicago dinner along with 2 Nites at the Drake!! We will be back for our 11th!!
Jammed packed busy Saturday night, hosts working hard to get everyone seated, seated promptly, attentive servers, but the food is still the main attraction that keeps us coming back. Nantucket scallops and Steak & Cake, doesn't get any better than that. Superb.
Incredible food,incredible service
One of the most incredible service experiences I have ever seen in terms of timing with food and just a overall 99 awareness level by our waiter who spotted my friend spilling sauce on his shirt and bringing club soda. Officially my favorite spot in the gold coast. When the food is amazing paired with incredible service hard to not come back
Great food and even better service!
Excellent food! Been there 3 times now and each time has been amazing. It's an energetic atmosphere so don't go if you want a quiet dinner. Service is great. It is pricey but it's downtown Chicago so that's what's expected.
Made a reservation via Open Table and upon arrival, they had record of my name, but were unable to accommodate us. The restaurant even called me 5 hours prior to the reservation to confirm! Will not be returning - terrible concierge/hostess service.
We had a great dinner there. Everything was good. Particularly liked the Tuna Ribbons as an appetizer.
Loved it. A little pricy. Lol 350.00 for 2 of us with tip. Lol. But then we ordered a lot. Will defiantly be back
Waiter was hovering and rushed us. Food was ok.. prices too high
As always food that is hard to beat. Service that is second to none, we had Ariana and she was wonderful, so helpful with wine pairing and dessert suggestions. She was a joy to talk with. Everyone in there treats you so well you can't help but want to come back every night.
Outstanding food and service.
Great food and time as usual
Food was okay, but for that price I expected more food, and better quality. I ordered scallops, which were good, but few and far between. Then the sides were disappointing. My husband's fish came with coleslaw, which was the quality of the cheap bulk stuff you get from the grocery store. Also, desserts are way too big. The creme brulee we ordered was the size of of small pie. Service was really good though and the wine selection was also good.
Went to Hugo’s on a busy Saturday night. Lot of fun and celebrations going on; family Holiday gatherings , football watching in the bar made for energetic atmosphere. Food and service were outstanding.
We went prior to an Alexander Hamilton performance. Server was attentive, polite, knowledgeable. Food was outstanding. Would definitely go again!
We had a 7:00 reservation. They didn’t seat us until about 7:25. We had filet, crab cake, king crab legs and twice baked potato. The filet was amazing! Great temperature and perfectly seasoned sear. The crab cake was very good, but I’ve had better. The crab legs were cooked perfectly and had good flavor. The potato was very good and large. We did not get dessert because we were full from everything else. The restaurant is a little on the noisy side. Service was slow but decent.
Great food, waiters and location.
Excelent food, not cheap.
Lobster tail and frog legs were great!
Great good, excellent service as always. Love this place.
Harry took great care of us. Thanks for another great meal
We always dine at Hugo’s when visiting the city. It never disappoints. They have their portions under control so the food is not so overwhelming,
This was a great meal. The fish we on the plank, a bit drier than I like but good. The service was excellent. The steak was wonderful.
overpriced seafood that is not fresh. I felt ripped off after the visit.
Good Food. Huge portions. No beer on tap! Very loud. Hard to have a conversation.
Chilean Sea Bass was great! Fish sandwich regular. Good wine. Wine lista quite extensive.
We come to Chicago every year and always make sure we visit Hugo Frogs at least once. Great food, great wine and excellent service
Fantastic wait staff. Chris and Andrew. Will visit again.
Was a good meal but way too pricey. The food and service was very good.
Pricilla is the bomb!
