Seafood
After years of searching far and wide for a location to open the follow-up restaurant to the highly successful Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse, owners Hugo Ralli and Steve Lombardo found what they were looking for right under their noses. In February of 1997 they launched the seafood companion to the Chicago legend they had created with Gibsons and named it Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House. The restaurant is dedicated to the same principles as its predecessor, unbelievable portions, value and quality coupled with memorable service.

Felt waiter was very uninvolved. We had had him a previous time and did not have the best experience. Plus one of people in my party had whitefish and there were a number of small bones still in the fish.

Fine dining experience. A throwback to when attention to detail, service and quality where king.; not like what is popular today like attitude, noise and eat-at large tables with people you don’t know and don’t care to ever see again.

They weren’t serving the Dover Sole (seasonal offering) and were out of Lake Perch (2nd choice), so disappointing in that respect, but the ambiance and service were outstanding as usual and since I was introducing my friends to this favorite place of mine, I was so glad to be able rely on those!!

It is annoying to arrive for your 8pm reservation to be told it will be just a couple of minutes and it is really 30 minutes. There really is not place to stand while you wait. The tuna looked great and I was worried about the seasoning, if it would be really hot. The waiter said it was about a 3-4. It is more. Frankly it took away from the taste of the tuna. The steak was ordered med rare and it was definitely medium. The flavor was good but not what we ordered. Our waiter was great. We knew it was very expensive and don’t mind spending the money. Just wish the experience matched the prices.

Food and drinks were excellent! Calamari was my favorite along with She’s a Peach 🍑. Sea Bass was perfect. A little expensive but well worth it.

The food was fantastic. We created our own surf and turf family style for the table and the ribeye was one of the best I’ve had. Outstanding atmosphere and the staff was great. Our server Simon was a lot of fun. The experience exceeded our expectations.

Today was happy Valentine's to my fiance and I. picked out of place tonight I thought it was a great amazing place but instead it was a nightmare. Understanding that it was a holiday but we set down for dinner. We waited for almost an hour or more to eat. Witness everybody else got there food even the people that was after us smh. The waitress very nice but I guess it wasn't her fault. We still gave her a great tip, Hold on I'm taking pictures to show you I ask for well done steak and this is what I got. Food was cold my I night was ruined thank you for the great Valentine's.
P.S. Last but not least We witness a guy getting bumped by another co worker going towards the kitchen dropped a spoon for desert pick it backup off the floor wipe it on his chess and put it back on the dish served it true story, wow I really don't know what else to say Seriously think about this place before you enter

The service is always stellar at Hugo's. While the noise level is on the loud side, it makes the dining experience all the more intimate.

Sat us next to window with heat blasting on a 45 degree day: VERY uncomfortable. They ignored my four requests to turn off the radiated heat.

Hugo's is a great place for a family event meal. We went for my son's birthday. He loves the king crab. Can't get enough.

We all enjoyed our meals -scallops, crab, steak. The asparagus was perfectly steamed - not over done. Scallops are just done through and tender.

Deserts have great flavor, but the size it ridiculous. Three of us ordered a slice of carrot cake, and none of us could finish even our 1/3 slice. It's a waste, and of course it really makes it look like they are just trying to hit you for an extra $8-10. It makes it less likely that we will come for anything other than a special occasion.

But for a special family occasion, if seafood is what you want, Hugo's is the place in Chicago.

Although it's a tad touristy, we had a great date night here with top notch cocktails and food. They feature old school recipes, prepared really well in a fairly timeless atmosphere. We really appreciated the professional, fast, friendly servers. Everyone was polite and helpful while promoting a casual, fun experience. Hugo's menu is traditional but when it comes to seafood, that's ok. Alaskan King Crab legs were delicious! Of course it's pricy but at least it's good as there are plenty of Chicago restaurants charging more for lower quality food and service. As locals, we like to go here once in while and it's always a consistently positive experience.

The food was good, our service was actually great and our waiter was awesome. Fair prices for a nice restaurant too. The only thing I really didn’t like was their birthday chant. It’s a staple of theirs so I get that it’s part of the experience but it is loud, abrupt and out of no where 5+ servers SHOUT a brief birthday chant... to be fair, it’s probably worth it bc they give the birthday table a ton of delicious looking cake and ice cream. Great date night spot but be ready for the birthday chant at neighboring tables!

I eat at Hugo’s/Gibson’s on average at least once a week, some weeks we eat twice. Everything is usually excellent if not perfect - the service is what makes both places exceptional. The service we received on Friday evening was half-genuine and left us feeling forgotten.

Took our server at least 20 minutes to even greet us. Even after he greeted us, he seemed totally bothered.
The steak was great
The cauliflower was dripping with Mayo and completely inedible.

The manager was very pleasant but by then the experience was ruined ...

Hugo's was my to go to place for decades, I was obsessed with the crab cakes and always ordered the meal as an appetizer. My guest ordered the sea bass which was very good, I don't know what happened this time but the crab cakes were very disappointing and served just above warm temperature. It was very unfortunate because I had an out of town guest and I raved about Hugo's only for both of us to be very disappointed with crab cakes and fries (very limp). I had a symptoms of food poising around 1am. Very disappointed and not going back.
