almost all of our food came out luke-warm, flavor overall was bland and dumplings seemed soggy when we received them. there is just as good chinese food offered at much cheaper places than this

The duck was average, and the pancake wasn’t good. The duck soup was decent — the tofu in it was delicious, and the broth wasn’t greasy or overwhelming. The other two dishes I ordered were much more impressive: •The sweet and sour pork was served on a bed of ice to keep it crispy — I thought it was just for show, but it actually worked! The sauce stayed intact and coated each piece perfectly. So good! •The corn with salted egg yolk was tasty too, though I think it would’ve been even better with a sprinkle of Chinese chili powder 🤭 haha.

Third time coming to this establishment and the food never disappoints! Love their Peking duck, best in Melbourne. Do lower your expectations for their service though, language barrier makes to difficult to flag down staff.

The Peking duck was great (as it should be, being a Peking duck restaurant). The other dishes we ordered were very tasty and very authentic. We reserved a table on a busy Friday night for 10 pax and they squeezed us onto a smaller table (luckily we had 2 small children and 1 person not attend - it was still tight). All the food we ordered couldn't fit at the same time. Not much service - order via QR code (which is not a problem), but we had to flag down the wait staff (not that easy to do) about 5 times to refill our water jug.

It's been 2 years since I've been to Hua Lu. Had yumcha on a Sunday lunch and it was underwhelming to say the least. This used to be my go to but food quality has gone down significantly. Steamed dishes were dry and baked dishes were too oily. It's also on the more expensive side, $130 for 8 items. Would not recommend, go to a different restaurant if you don't want to be disappointed.
