It would have been nice if an email or phone call to tell us that they closed due to the corona virus. We drove 40 minutes with a party of 10 people for my wife’s birthday only to find out our reservations were for nothing.
food was average compared to the price, drinks were not good and 2 employees were sampling wine all night and when asked they said they were tasting to see if it was still good to sell, but it was at the bar in front of people
As usual the food was great. There were way more people eating Saturday which is a good thing but it did mean service was a little slower than other times we've been. Glad more people are trying it out. Noise level was significantly higher than previous visits but we were seated in a different part of the restaurant. Waitress as always was wonderful but with more people to see to she was running a bit.
My daughter , husband and I enjoyed our experience here! We were staying at The Hu Hotel so this was a convenient option. Our server was excellent and made superior recommendations. We each had a different meal and all three were perfect. My husband enjoyed the ribeye, my daughter chose chicken bites and I had the special of the day , a filet with fingerling potatoes . The interior was is modern but cozy. We will be back again !
Went on Valentine's day and unknown to us they changed the regular menu to a pre prepared dinner $75 each. This was not mentioned during reservations
I have raved to all our friends what a wonderful time we had at the Hu Diner before the Orpheum. The staff was delightful especially our server LaChardenay. The food was excellent and the portions were more than generous. Our only disappointment was that octopus and grits was no longer on the menu. The seasonal cocktails that we tried were very good. We will be back.
Great service and tasty lunch
A hidden jewel for a quick downtown lunch. Great ambiance. Very good service. Food was great.
I went for Downtown Dining Week. I had the Short Rib entree; it was outstanding. The Shrimp & Grits with Orange sauce dind't quite work but it was ok. The chocolate mousse was not that impressive. Overall the food was okay and the restaurant was appealing. I will definietly go back to try the regular menu.
My wife and I had never heard of Hu.Diner before, but after our Downtown Dining experience we not only have heard of it, we are telling all our friends about it! Different from many of the restaurants, Hu did not have any selections for the dinner meal - you got what they offered, but as we found out that was not a bad thing. The glazed shrimp and grits were delicious and Hu's take on the New Orleans' classic. The main dish of braised short rib wasn't your "crockpot" special roast beef, but a tender, flavorful beef dish that we savored each bite of. The vegetable medley was cooked just right - not the Southern overcooked mushy vegetables. Lastly, the chocolate mousse cake was decadently rich, but we somehow sacrificed and ate it all! Maybe the Claret we ordered for the meal helped!! Great food, excellent service - what more could you want from a downtown dining establishment!
Love this place. The service is the best!
Our Server was a DOLL!! And she made our dinner a wonderful experience. Our food was great. I will definitely recommend & enjoyed it very much!
Overall, it is a good restaurant to try. Menu is not extensive but good selections. Good ambiance and service. One thing could be better is that food is a bit on salty side.
Had a wonderful brunch! Sat at the bar, people watched, and was taken care of by some of the best people. I ordered the Hu burger with an egg and breakfast potatoes on the side and my husband had the chicken and waffles, both were superb.
The restaurant is cute and fun but the food was just fair. It was very slow to arrive at the table but LUKEWARM when we got it. The service was friendly but not polished or fast enough. (And the place wasn't even crowded so I don't know what was wrong).
in general, very disappointing and we probably won't be back.
Didn’t not try any food. Went for drinks. They have a limited food menu and does not have bottomless mimosas on Saturday. Roof top opens @3.
Service was awful. Waiter was rude and clearly did not want to be there. He had an open argument with another server when she politely asked for him to help and then started to do everything slow and minimally. If I owned this place I'd review my "Server training". We waited 23 minutes for drink refills.
Food was good for what it was, but we noticed a lot of plates (getting dried out under a heat lamp) waiting to be delivered to other guests.
Nice place. Good service. Food was disappointing. Drinks not impressive either. Unfortunate, because the location has so much promise. We sampled much of the menu, and no one at the table loved anything.
Excellent meal, menu, service and atmosphere. Highly recommend!
The food was great and the staff were even better! A great experience overall!
Delicious food. Our waitress was amazing - helpful when we picked our drinks and food.
Flies all in the restaurant from open windows
Food was below average
Wasn't their best night. We got there early, so you can't blame a crowd for our experience. Food was just ok. It had been great the other times we went, but something changed. Also, server forgot to put in our sides, and then said it would be another 20 minutes to get sides after our entrees were served because then kitchen had gotten backed up. Nothing was offered to compensate for the mistake. Still have alot of kinks to work out.
Our server, Stephanie, was very good—friendly, knew about the food and wine, and she checked on us appropriately. We got there a little after 6:00 pm on Thursday—had a reservation, but it didn’t get crowded til we were leaving. I enjoyed the fried cauliflower/kale and Korean style drummies. I wished the chicken had crisper skin, but sauce had sweet and the right heat. My hubs had the burger and chips. Chips were a little too brown and burger was ‘meh’. Wine list limited. Enjoyed it.
The grits were super yummy. We definitely enjoyed having bottomless mimosas. ☺️
What a wonderful brunch. Everything we had was fantastic.
I had a friend visiting from out of town, and I wanted her to see the wonderful interior of this restaurant. The food is also delicious, and everyone in our party was pleased. We sampled the burger, the catfish, the spinalis, and wings along with a few sides.
Fun restaurant. Went for lunch, great bloody Mary's , friendly staff, order their fried Chicken!
Hu failed to notify me that there were maintenance issues that prevented the Diner from being open. My guests showed up to see the restaurant closed and when I called to confirm there was no remorse for the inconvenience. The unprofessionalism of simply checking to see if there were persons who had a reservation and giving a courtesy call to inform me made a terrible first impression from a new restaurant in the city.
Nice service and atmosphere, but with the exception of the parker house rolls, which are delicious, the rest of the food was mediocre. With so many other great places to eat in Memphis, I probably wouldn’t go back there for a full dinner. I’d go back just for drinks and rolls though!
Great music and ambiance. Small, very well done menu. Go!
The service was great! The food was exceptional!! The ambience was perfected by the music played by the d.j. Thank you for a beautiful Mother’s Day!!!
DELICIOUS!!!! The crawfish mac and cheese is to die for!
Service was slow, wine list and bar options are very limited
While visiting Memphis, I went for dinner to Hu Diner. My friend and I were so pleasantly surprised! We expected a very casual no frills meal- the food was delicious and exactly what we were looking for. The fried chicken was amazing- moist and tender, the outside was crisp and not greasy at all. We decided to share the large portion and the price was very fair for all of the food that we got. The real standout was the ambiance and service! While I waited for my friend, I sat in the outdoor bar seats (so cool!). I ordered the "Aretha" it was a light, citrusy/spicy whiskey drink. I chatted with the bartender Nia about good places to go to in the area. When we sat down, our server, Stephanie was the essence of Southern hospitality. She was friendly, gave us suggestions on the menu (thanks for the suggestion of Champagne with the chicken!), and brought our food quickly. We finished the meal with a very grown up creamsicle milkshake- vanilla ice cream and orange liqueur- DELICIOUS! We can't wait to come back again!
Great service, great food and most importantly in a good location
Very nice upscale diner. Excellent service and great menu choices. We had brunch - Eggs Benedict and a Hu burger.
Excellent food, good service, pleasant experience.
The menu is a little weird and not many options for a hotel restaurant. I like the ambiance and it would be a great place to get a drink and a bite to eat, but octopus and grits? The food I had was good, but would have liked more options.
