My husband ordered the sweet chili chicken which was good, but my risotto was so salty...it was almost inedible.
The beer was great, the food was OK and the service was terrible.
Great spot for business lunch or group of friends. Great menu selection and price point.
We dined in for dinner before a show. Perfect for a couple of moms and their teenage daughters!
Easter Brunch was wonderful, this is not my first visit and will not be my last.
Went for a casual Easter Brunch with the family after seeing some favorable write-ups on Easter spots. We had a 1:30 reservation. While the food was ok, many items in the buffet were empty and not being replaced. The carving station stopped serving early too. I understand if we came late, but service was posted till 3pm. Lively but tables/booths were well worn and overall place felt tired. I won’t be back other than bar.
It was ok. You pay for what you get. I wasn't impressed. Everyone was nice.
The food selection on the Easter brunch was disappointing. They advertised a carving station. You would think that meant they had lunch items in addition to breakfast. But there were zero side dishes (except salad) to go with the prime rib--no potatoes, no vegetables...nothing. So I guess you could have prime rib with your eggs. Given that, the $39 price tag was way overpriced.
We went to the Easter Brunch. It was good but the menu was pretty limited compared to some other places we have gone to in the city. No hot vegetables . Bread and salad options were few. Roast beef was very good. Dessert options were also fairly sparse.
OK but somewhat disappointment ...omlet station did not have ham as an ingredient, the buffet bacon with flavorless, there was no aus jus for the prime rib the potatoes they were serving looks so unappealing I did appeal just a white mass in a serving tray the eggs on the buffet were over cooked excessively dry..the sausage on the buffet was excellent, the cold cuts were good as were the glazed nuts olives etc but could have used some sausage gravy/ biscuit and smoked salmon would have been good..I will pay more next Easter for a real brunch
First time here for Easter Brunch, the place is huge but they set up their buffet at the furthest part of the restaurant so it was a trek to get your food if you were in the main dining room. The selection was very limited and not memorable at all, it was very disappointing, but for $40pp I expected a little more especially since it was for Easter. The charcuterie selection was rather sad, I expected that to be much better since they did not have a seafood option...the Prime Rib was inconsistent, I like it rare, first time it was rare enough, but the second roast was definitely over cooked and I could only get medium. The service was surprising since there is not much to do, our coffee was never offered a refill and our old plates were not cleared off when we went to the buffet...I did notice the staff did enjoy hanging around the area near the bathroom . Just a suggestion to management if your staff is louder than the customers it is time to do your job😊.
I would still try this place out for drinks and in the summer it must be great to sit outside, they have a big area with a lot of seating.
Great beer selection, good food, good service. Reservation was not honored until we complained.
We had two big tables. The server at our table was great, the server at the other table was just okay.
Howell's and Hood has an outstanding selection of beers with wonderful detail describing the taste of each and every 1, plus alcohol content. The kitchen does a wonderful job of providing an eclectic dining experience ranging from roasted vegetables to fish tacos to delicious French onion soup to sumptuous Burger choices
Fun place, very good food.
We've lived in and around Chicago for 13 years and this was the first time coming in here. It was amazing. The beer list was outstanding and always good to find an authentic German Hefeweizen! The food was very reasonably priced and looking forward to coming back again in the summer for the nice outdoor patio seating.
We picked Howells and Hood for the location and the price. We were able to reserve a table online, which was handy. Upon arriving we were seated and it was a bit before our server was at our table. We ordered drinks and it took a while for them to come to our table. The wedge salad was amazing although it didn't come out too much before our food. It took the server a while to check on us (it was busy). Took a while for our bill as well. We finally received it and we waited 15 minutes for her to come back for our credit card....we didn't even see her so we chose to leave cash instead. Much quicker than waiting another maybe 5 or 10 minutes.....a little disappointed in our service however the food and ambiance was great!
We ate and watched Loyola play in the elite 8. We never felt rushed during the game. Our drinks were refilled in a timely manner.
Good service was greatly appreciated
The waitress kept getting everything wrong and our apps came out the same exact time as our entrees.
Something on the menu for everyone but it's sports bar quality and setting.
Food was delicious. Nice children’s menu. Need to upgrade desserts, not enough options.
Great spot to get together with friends or coworkers. Average age is late twenties to mid-thirties.
Get it while you Can! This amazing location (Tribune Tower) will no longer be their address as of October 1st, 2018!
What a great place to eat! The place was not as busy as you might expect for the center of downtown Chicago but that was a plus for us because we were not in the mood for waiting to eat.
The wait staff and the food were better than the rating I gave but I rated them in terms of all the places I've experienced in Chicago which may not be fair but I think appropriate. I felt that this place was great price, great ambience, and great food.
The drinks were awesome and they even provide samplers for the vast amount of craft beers they carry from across the country. I had the ribs and they were tender and moist with the right amount of sauce (that doesn't drip in your lap). Presentation of all the plates was really appropriate for what you would expect.
I plan to visit again on my next trip!
Had a great meal on a Saturday night in February. Friendly wait staff, food was good, not to noisy.
Enjoyed the wide variety of beer. The appetizers were delicious and we loved the fish tacos! Great ambience and service! A great spot in Chicago!
Waiter could have been quicker and more attentive but was very friendly
Love this place. Can’t say enough good things about it. Get the French Onion Soup and the Risotto - amazing.
We were rushed because the restaurant was having an employee party that evening. They could have told us that when we made the reservation. Fish tacos were fried and hard. Thanks but no thanks.
We had a great experience. The food was phenomenal! I definitely recommend any of their cheeseburgers. Our waitress was a little weird but other than that we had a great time.
Great place for lunch and a beer while your downtown shopping.
Food was terrific as was the service. Will definitely come back.
Leave this restaurant to desperate tourists. It is a great location on Michigan Ave. very convenient to a lot of attractions and restaurants that take a bit more time and care. The ambiance is nice. I liked the quotes around the lobby but you can do way better a block off Michigan for less money
Food was very typical and didnt give me a reason to pick this restaurant over anywhere else. Our waitress was very disappointing, she didn’t provide silverware, ignored the table and rarely checked if we needed anything. It wasn’t busy so I was surprised.
I’ve been here before with friends for drinks and had a decent time. I suggest sticking to some beers and getting food elsewhere. They also serve wine in massive beakers which was a plus.
Always a favorite. The food and service are always top notch. The cauliflower appetizer is wonderful, and the on-tap beer selection is amazing. Never disappointed and always a spot we consider when in the city.
If you're a beer lover, then you can't go wrong with Howells & Hood. 120 beers on tap. The ribs and pulled BBQ are pretty good as well. Typical sports bar atmosphere.
