We had a great time, very enjoyable.
Excellent dishes and staffs!
Location was good.
I saw the sunset.
It was beautiful.
And food was awesome
We were so looking forward to dining in the restaurant and listening to the music. We booked weeks in advance and asked for a table up the front so we could watch the sunset.
We arrived on time at 6pm and asked about our table and the hostess said they had a lovely table for us and to sit for 5 minutes. We waited 20 minutes and then were taken to a table at the back of the restaurant with no view and surrounded by empty tables. The food was expensive and not up to the normal standard of the restaurant. We had dined there many times in the past. The only bright side was our waiter who was very friendly and very professional. We wouldn’t go back nor would we recommend the restaurant. Sitting outside under the tree is a better option than sitting down the back, under an umbrella where it is dark and gloomy.......it’s not fun.
Ambience and service was very good to excellent. Food was meh. Has the market fish cooked well but the sauce was bland. Needed acid and salt.
House Without A Key is our favorite while visiting the islands. Ian and John are both great HALEKULANI ambassadors. Plus they do their jobs very well.
I made a reservation for House Without a Key during my first visit to Honolulu, as it was recommended by a friend who said it's THE place to watch the sun set. Yes, it was a good place for that, but in my opinion, the food, service, and overall ambiance equaled the sunset view.
I started with a Chi Chi, my husband had a Blue Hawaii, and our dinner companion ordered a Chi Chi based on my reaction. The drinks were superb. We indulged in some dinner rolls, which were also delicious--made from purple taro.
I chose the catch of the day, a type of a moonfish, as my entrée. It was very good, served with white rice and extremely tasty broccolini. My husband enjoyed his beef and our friend enjoyed her salmon equally much.
Because we were celebrating my birthday (a fact the staff probably only knew from our Open Table reservation), the waiter brought out a slide of coconut cake, a a plate beautifully adorned with "Happy Birthday" in chocolate script. My husband had a fantastic cheesecake.
The service was excellent throughout the evening. One of the best features of the restaurant was the live, traditional Hawaiian music. A trio of musicians played with the ocean as their backdrop. For several of the numbers, Brook Lee (former Miss Hawaii, Miss USA, Miss Universe) danced hula, which made the wonderful entertainment even more magical.
Dinner at House Without a Key is rather pricey, but when you want a special dinner experience, the price is well worth it.
The service was outstanding! Sandra made our dining experience extra special. The food was amazing as always. We had the coconut shrimp, the wrap, the cheeseburger, soup , and for dessert we had the key lime pie and coconut cake. It was all so delicious.
Everyone there was super friendly and helpful. They had a lovely band playing when we showed up and we had a terrific view of everything; the band, the ocean, and some of Waikiki. We went for dinner but it would be a great place for cocktails.
We have dined here before and it is an exceptional experience with beautiful views and excellent food
Great experience. Live music and traditions hula at sunset.
The service was outstanding. The menu was small. The food was good but not not excellent. The environment was great and romantic. I had a seafood stew prices at $55. It was a bit bland and only tasted like a light chicken broth.
Excellent food. Nice atmosphere. Will return again.
Delicious good and great ambience.
While the ocean view and general ambience was great, I’m very disappointed in the food. We had oysters, beef short ribs, salad and the huli chicken - all were mediocre dishes. We asked for sauces to add some flavor to the meats. Would only recommend this place for drinks.
The service was impeccable, dinner was spectacular, the coconut cake was exquisite and the view was great. The only downside for us was live music that was pretty loud. Once it started we had to lean in and yell at each other. It was a traditional Hawaiian band and would have been lovely if it was background music.
Beautiful view, music and atmosphere. Food is basic and overpriced for the quality - but worth it for the other perks.
This is my second time at HWAK, it really is such a nice and relaxing place. Excellent cocktails and meals. Very friendly staff. It's a little pricey, but the ambiance makes it worth it. Will return!
Best Mai Tai’s ever! And great hamburgers! We come to Hawaii twice a year and always include this restaurant. It was my wife’s birthday and they gave us a free slice of coconut cake!
Great food, Really good service and you can’t beat the view or the music.
Beautiful evening with amazing food and entertainment! Such an amaze iconic location. The food and service was excellent and the entertainment was so very special.
Romantic trip to Honolulu and this restaurant had great reviews-everything we were looking for: on the beach, innovative food, and music!
It did have music and nice ambiance although not on the beach, it is oceanside. The service was great, but the food was close to terrible. Very expensive and misleading. Poke 3 ways at $24 sounded amazing. What we got was over smoked yellowfin, bland ahi, and very chewy octopus. Ick! Lettuce wraps were nothing special either, how about some peanut sauce and sprouts? We opted for the special sea bass which came out looking suspiciously like thin tilapia and had so much blackening seasoning that the fish disappeared. The waitress insisted on bringing the fish dish she had recommended initially and charged us the $12 extra that it cost. It was better but not $44 worth. All in all, disappointing although the employees are very nice. First clue should have been the spaghetti dish on the menu- definitely tailored for folks who like to spend a lot and don’t really care what they’re eating
We were caught in a heavy shower but the staffs there didn’t even try to move us nor bring us towels though we were all out at the terrace tables with no roofs. Drinks and foods were great but the rain ruined all the atmosphere.
View is awesome. People there is very friendly. Meal was great. My favorite place.
Booked a table in Open Table for 8:30 pm only to have the restaurant start closing up at 9:00 pm. Had we known we would have passed. Extremely pleasant server - just ok food and drinks.
We loved it. Ahi poke was divine. Octopus was a bit chewy, though. Great place!
House Without a Key was Fantastic!
The background view is the beach and especially the sunset.
From Beginning to Endl
Host, Server, Food and Live Entertainment was a Lovely Evening.
Very expensive cocktails! $18.00 for a vodka and soda is outrageous! The bartender did not make a specialty cocktail, it was a shot of vodka and soda water!!
My wife and I had a very nice experience. We are at sunset and we’re able to watch the View with good drinks and food. The experience was made even better thanks to the great service provided by our waiter Duke whom took the time to take photos for me and my wife during the sunset and was very friendly and responsive during the dinner service. Service like his is what makes a good place great.
Service was fantastic. Entertainment was nice. Venue is beautiful. Food is overpriced for what you get. A basic plate of romaine lettuce leaves with Parmesan and a little dressing was $18. Pupus were good, not great. Go for the ambiance, not the food.
Kanoe Miller's hula was very charming and superb.
I would like to visit again.
This was our third experience to have dinner at this restaurant. We enjoyed the meal very much, the food was excellent, service was good. We also enjoyed the dance. All the dishes, coconut shrimp, crispy calamari, beef hamburger and coconut cake were really excellent. Kid menu was also good.
thank you for good time!
Excellent restaurant. A must if you're in Waikiki. Great tasting food and drinks. Excellent service. Beautiful view of sunset and Diamond Head. Great live Hawaiian music in evening.
