House of Blues Restaurant & Bar - San Diego Ratings and Reviews
I am an employee at this particular House of Blues, usually I would never make a reservation here but an old comrade from my military days wanted to meet me here and see what the place was about. Carolina greeted our party at the door with a warm smile and knew in advance I would be coming in, my comrade and his girlfriend were impressed. Alex was our server and she did a great job, she even made my comrade and his girlfriend laugh. Alex got drinks in our hands quickly(tea for me) and checked up on us often, but not too often, which would be annoying. We went with the tacos since it was taco tuesday and she convinced us all to buy a second round of tacos and drinks, when we had plans to go elsewhere. My comrade, his girlfriend, and I were all thoroughly impressed with the quality of service, hospitality, and food.
Had a great experience at this house of Blues in the Gas Lamp. Had a group of 20 and they accommodated us without any trouble and gave us a private room. Everyone enjoyed the food and was pleasantly suprised at how good it was. Service was great. Overall a great group experience and would recommend it to anyone considering this place.
I want to thank the staff and crew of HOB San Diego. We had dinner and show tickets. Dinner was excellent, I had fried chicken, my wife had Cobb salad. Both were large servings and tasty.
I would like to give a special thank you to Security person #65, G. My wife is in a wheelchair and G and the staff were exceptionally accommodating. Already looking forward to returning to HOB San Diego. Thanks again for a great evening.
We had only gone to eat at HOB once for their Gospel Brunch, which we enjoyed. Now we were finally going to see a show there so we decided to have dinner there as well. The place is lots of fun with lots to look at and there was a fun cajun band playing where we were seated. If you're not expecting loud music this could be a bad place for you, especially if you're planning to have a soft-spoken romantic conversation! We weren't so it was fine and we liked the music. Our server was very nice, but for some reason she was in the weeds and our drinks took FOREVER. Our first drink order took over ten minutes. My wife ended up going to the bar to get her wine and it didn't take any time at all. Our server was very apologetic, which I appreciated. We let the manager know that service was slow and other staff started helping out. It would've been nice if they had comped something, but that didn't happen. I thought the food was pretty good (I had the pulled pork sandwich) and the prices were reasonable for the type of place it is.
We were there for dinner last week and enjoyed our food. This time we came for their Happy Hour. $3 for ice cold beers $4 for wines and $5 for Stoli vodka. We had blackened riblets, 2 flavours of chicken wings and Cajun chicken pasta to share. Lively atmosphere, friendly waitstaff and flavorful food. $50 for 2 with 4 drinks---good value for an early supper. Highly recommend !
Good food and great value for casual dining. This eatery is close by to Marriott Pulse so we can go after we landed in San Diego. The restaurant even made a long distance call to Canada to confirm our reservation a day prior which I'm really impressed!
There was a slight delay between the appetizer and main and the server apologized profusely. We weren't upset at all. For us food always trumps service anyways.
Jerk wings, bacon burger, ribs and ice cold beer are all tasty, done with love/care, big portions for your dollar, great value.
Will frequent again next time in town.
The House of Blues was a fun place to grab an early dinner with friends. It has a great 'Blues'-y and Jazzy theme'd interior with a small outdoor dining area on one side. We sat outside - ordering a combination of small plates, salads and a pasta dish. All of the food was great. Portion size was large.
We arrived during happy hour so the drinks weren't too pricey (5 dollars for a nonspeciality mixed drink). If you order a mule - it comes with a copper mug that you can keep (although it adds 3 dollars more! A surprise but not displeasing).
These guys can take a refresher on customer service and friendlyness. From the moment i walked up as a newbie i was met by a pushy giant who questioned my motive? I said I have a reservation....wait at the front for the hostess he said. So after about 10 min finally someone showed but not before this barbarian asked me once again what I am doing there and if he could help....seriously folks cmon. I am never gon a eat there again. The only reason I tried was due to a consert and early entry...shame on me. I will purchase VIP tickets and skip the House of Blues food experience.
My wife and I were looking for something not too expensive for a late dinner. It was our last night in town and I wanted to hear live music while we ate. After researching a few options, we went to the House of Blues. There was live music in the bar area and a concert in the venue side. The music wasn't disrupting but our waitress could have came by to refill our drinks and water. I had the ribs and gumbo, which was okay, but not good enough to run back and eat there again. My wife had the fried chicken, which she said the batter was bland. All in all, it wasn't a disappointment but it wasn't anything to brag about.
We went to eat there before a concert and we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. We don't normally eat at chain restaurants, we find the quality is not usually as good but we both enjoyed our meals and shared an appetizer. They spice their foods well and everything came out hot and the price was reasonable for a downtown restaurant
The food is amazing. Lots of people think it's going to be a tourist trap restaurant with subpar food; this is not the case. The food is so delicious and reasonably priced.
The drinks are also awesome and not like where you can just barely tell the alcohol made it in the glass; they are the real deal.
The staff - no idea where to begin - the hostess, the manager and my server were all outstanding.
Love Love Love HOB San Diego
Waitress save the evening. Very accommodating. A couple of things were just not right (e.g. drinks not quite up to standard), she immediately made it right without a hassle. Some of the food was just warm, not hot. Expecting a little livelier crowd. Overall not bad, would definitely not rule out a return visit.
I love going to the House of Blues. The food has gotten better over the years, but is still a bit mediocre. But it's still a great place to go for music, drinks, and art. I ordered the chicken breast with smashed potatoes. It was tasty. My friend ordered the salmon. It was over-cooked. But everything was made right in the world by the Bourbon Bread Pudding a la mode.
I came in for a reservation for three to celebrate a concert on Tuesday. It was our first to see Simple Plan and they played at House of Blues. We arrived early, the bouncer and host were generous and answered our questions swiftly. We were seated in a great spot with barely any noise and the food was fantastic. Even though they were out of the beer I wanted, my server was kind to let me know and give me other options. Servers were friendly! Was able to give me the discount I received in my email. Didn't have any problems and was left with no worries. I had a great time with friends preshow with food and drinks! Come on down!
Had a Groupon for $50 off our bill if we spent $100. Was well worth it the waitress didn't even think twice. she had seen it before and knew what to do and was still very attentive and polite. Her name was Alex and she was great! The food was awesome and great selection of beer. We ate there before a concert there.
This is the 1st time we've ever been to the House of Blues. We had a great time! The staff was very attentive, answered all our questions and even surprised us with a Bday gift! We were in town for a concert at the House of Blues and wanted to have a special dinner somewhere near the venue. This was PERFECT! We even got "head of the line" passes because we dined there! Although we stayed there a couple of hours having dinner and drinks, the staff never rushed us and continued to check on us. Great Service, highly recommended.
