House of Blues Restaurant & Bar - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
We went there for the music and it was great! We weren't in any rush and enjoyed the 3 hours we were there. However, the server was probably the worst one we ever had. Her other tables around us were obviously frustrated as well. I would not count one employee against the restaurant though. We are looking forward to going back!
House of Blues Chicago was one of the only restaurants willing to take a reservation for our large group of 18. The staff was extremely helpful, particularly the hostess who worked hard to set up a table to meet our needs, including a high chair and being seated together at one table. Our waitress was patient and friendly. It took a little while for our food to come out, but given our size this was expected and we had drinks and live music to keep us happy. HOB is a very cool spot with unique decor. It was easy to get to and we had a very positive experience.
Food, decor, and live music were better than expected. Our waitress was polite and nice but was spread thin. This meant that we struggled to let her know when we wanted a drink refill, dessert, or our check. We also asked for a receipt after paying cash (work reimbursement) and left without one after waiting 20 minutes of waiting. Love the atmosphere, worth the patience, but I don't advise going there if you are in a time crunch.
Host staff was rude. Could not find a reasonable place to sit two people and ended up putting us in a section where the poor waitress was swamped.
Food came cold, incorrect, and no one came to check our order. Until the manager came seeing we were not enjoying our meal.
Did comp the incorrect meal.
Seeing a live blues performance while in Chicago is a must. Finding a blues-themed restaurant instantly resonated as the place to be on a Friday evening. Making reservations insures a table upon arriving, which is important since House of Blues is clearly popular. The preformer had years experience playing blues, the music set a nostalgic and immersive vibe. Excellent quality food. Helpful service. Perfect location. Excellent experience.
At first the waitress( I want to say her name is Tatiana) was very attentive by the end she wasn’t. We asked for our check and it took her 30 min to bring it to us and on top of that she had mentioned at the beginning of the night that she would mark our receipts so we can pass the line. Well by the time we got our bill and paid for our food I forgot about it. When we get to the line the nice usher asked us for our pass the line receipt and I told him our waitress did not give us one. He was so nice and went and got it for us and made sure to let us know for next time that they give us the pass the line receipt. The food was okay over priced maybe next time I’ll try something different. But we had a great time at the ZZ Ward concert!
We came for the surroundings and to meet up with good friends. But the food was excellent! Service was very attentive but not annoying. Glasses were kept filled. Plates taken as they were emptied. Live music on stage was great. But before nine it is not overwhelmingly loud. So we were able to have fun talking and could hear each other. I had the steak salad and loved it. The salad had lettuce plus roasted Brussel sprouts and carrots. The sauce was great. I commented to my friends how much I enjoyed it. Others had a po-boy, jambalaya, and can't remember what else. Everyone was full and happy when we finished. Highly recommended.
Horrible service before concert. We walked in with reservations to be sat immediately. The place (from start to finish) was maybe 2/3 full with reservation signs on tables that were never occupied in the nearly 2 hours we were there and with people turned away at the door. Took over ten minutes to be greeted and even longer to get a glass of water while waited for a bottle of wine to be opened and brought to table. The bottle of wine came with cork in so tightly I then had to go get bartender to remove because server was nowhere to be found. Once food was ordered, it was quick and jambalaya good. Have had way better bread pudding. Salmon dish was overpriced for the portion and quality. Live music before we went to se Blues Traveler was really good, but would have been more enjoyable if it hadn’t taken over 30 minutes just to put an order in.
We could not have enjoyed our meal more. Perfect pre-show faire! The cornbread is to die for! Excellent service and you get to "skip the line" for the evening's show. We were seated at our reservation time and out the door in time to be on the rail for Blues Traveler. Perfect night!
My friend and I had dinner before the Blues Traveler concert. The venue is really cool and has a great atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and we were seated quickly. The food and drinks were amazing. I had the shrimp and grits and my friend had the Cajun pasta. We also spent enough to recieve a Pass the Line voucher and were able to get a great view of the concert. We will definitely be back.

We arrive around bout 8:30 I made my reservations for eight thirty yet and I was like 10 minutes late and the waitress was so cool she was like oh absolutely no problem she's so be to my seed she ever really brought me water and for me and my daughter gave us me you told me her name and said that she would be right back and she will be our server for tonight and I appreciate it she said absolutely no problem she said imma let you guys start with the water imma give you guys a few minutes and then I'll be right back she gave us like 10 minutes and then she came back answers was we ready we asked her for like another 5 minutes she said absolutely no problem and she made some suggestions and she said this is great this this is great all of our dishes are great we was like so surprised to take it back that she made suggestions cuz we never been here before and we was curious about some of the things and we were talking about some of the food amongst ourselves and she picked up the vibe offered her assistance and everything else was just great I love the House of Blues and I definitely will be going back soon as my family arrives here from out of town Thanks you
My boyfriend and I were in Chicago for a fun weekend of concerts, restaurants and fun. We have both always wanted to come to the HOB and we had tickets for the show upstairs later that evening. Making a reservation was easy, we were greeted well and seated as soon as we came in. Our waitress was fantastic (wish I could remember her name) and the food was delicious. The musician playing was also great. We were disappointed in the show upstairs, way too crowded felt like a safety violation. The band was awesome but wish we would have just stuck around downstairs for the music. We left the concert upstairs early - took forever to get a drink and had people stepping on my feet constantly, bumping into us, spilling drinks. Kind of sucked!
Had a great time. Arrived at 6:30 but the original entertainer was late. Had a guitar / solo blues player for an hour. Cheryl Youngblood and her band were FANTASTIC. We had no idea we would stay for most of the night. Food was Louisana style and was spicy and great!. Great recommendation: NOT FOR KIDS!
We went specifically to listen to the dinner band, made our reservations and waited 45 mins past when the band was supposed to start. We overheard a waitress tell her table that the band cancelled and they were trying to get another band to fill in. No announcements were made, no one told us. The cliché, big chain like atmosphere and bland gumbo was not worth it without music. Disappointed.
I was a little bit upset about the fact that we went to the restaurant in order to bypass the line to get into the concert, just to come out of the restaurant to find the people from outside were already being allowed into the venue. I would have never wasted my time or money if I'd know I didn't have pay the extra $ just to get let in the venue that same time as people who didn't pay the extra $ to get in first.
Brought high school exchange students from Europe and Latin America. Loved the music. All enjoyed music, service, food, decor. Would come again but would look to come early or on a weekday to be able to have a conversation over dinner.
BUT beware of UBER pickups. We asked hostess whether cab or UBER better. She said the latter and peogrammed in the exact address as it seems there could be more than one. But the UBER driver was one minute away. Then three minutes. Then one. Then three. Then they cancelled. And then they charged me for not being there! We had been standing in the cold directly in front of the restaurant - watching many cabs pull up. Moral: of you don’t drive or walk when you leave House of Blues, take a cab.
The House of Blues never disappoints. The food and drinks and service are great. The real draw to this place, and the reason we keep going back, is The Mike Wheeler Band. They frequently play there, and you can find their schedule on the Mike Wheeler Band website. I wish I was a writer to explain their gig to you, but all I can say is that they put their flair on original and familiar songs, and to me it is all amazing, and very entertaining, and it makes for a great Chicago evening. I would encourage a reservation on busier weekend nights, or if you want to request a table close to the band.
