I’ve been here twice now in the last month for celebrations and both times the food was incredible. The first visit was inside and this past visit we sat outside on the patio. Different vibes for sure, but both were relaxed, cozy and comfortable. The lobster tail is the best lobster I’ve ever had—I ordered it both times because it was incredible, as was the filet, potatoes and veggies with it. I previously had the cream of mushroom soup (so yummy!), and my SO had the vegetarian French onion soup. It is uncommon to have that option for a vegetarian and he was delighted by how delicious it was. Overall, terrific food, great attentive staff, fun vibe. We had Scott serving us this week and he was fantastic and fun. Will definitely be repeat customers, and I’m so glad Northbrook has this wonderful spot! Jen the owner is doing a wonderful job!
Loved the music, I think they could use one more waiter to speed service but food was city quality and the whiskey flights are a nice change of pace. Was a nice night out with the family
We went to House 406 for Mother's Day brunch. It was our first experience dining there. The food was exceptional and a service was very friendly and professional.
We will be meeting out of town friends there in 2 weeks. We look forward to House 406's dinner menu!
2nd time at this restaurant and we were all blown away by the quality of the cocktails and dinner. Went with another couple on a busy Saturday night and had a very nice experience. It started with the hostess getting us cocktails since the bar was jammed. The drinks were added to our dinner tab so that was seamless. Dinner was really very good. Learned that the "406" in the name is a reference to Montana from the woman who owns the restaurant. That's why the meat courses are highlighted. I had salmon while the others had beef. All was very good and everyone commented on how happy they were with their meals. My wife's mushrooms that came with her strip steak were my highlight. Only weakness was a quiet and not very helpful waiter. That said, we'll be back.
The food was not good. The server dropped off my French onion soup and said, “it’s very hot” when really the bowl was hot but the soup was not. We ordered the shrimp & cilantro flatbread and it was basically pizza with shrimp on it. Had red sauce, no cilantro and was not very good. It was not as advertised. The crab cakes were ok but not hot. The service was good and our server felt bad the food was not good. I had high hopes but this was over priced and needs work.
Delicious food and cocktails. Well appointed interior styling definitely makes you forget that this restaurant is in a strip mall. Noise level is VERY loud (our only negative).
First time ever at the restaurant and was very impressed. The food was really quite good. I had the crab cakes and they were some of the best in the area with more crab than usual and really good flavor. My husband had the white fish and the portion was plentiful. Like the warm home made rolls served with appetizers. We did not have any desert. Drinks were good but not great. Service was good. Great place to meet another couple and enjoy the food and conversation. Will definitely try again!
This place is beautiful and the service, when there, is great. But the servers are like the restaurant - just “missing” at the times and places when you’d want them to deliver. Menu looks great - food is bland and lacking. Servers are delightful but seldom around. This place has potential - just needs a bit more effort to get it to where it could be.
Some of the best food on the north shore, hands down. Great service, with a team that has been together for a while and acts like a family. Highly recommended.
Enjoyed a lovely Anniversary Dinner - 406 did a Great job!!
Seated in banquette that helped subdue the noise level
I think the pours for wine could be a bit more generous for the price
Food well prepared
Always very good food. Service was slow tonight, Thursday.
Very cozy with amazing food and service.
I enjoyed the food and drinks a lot. However, our server was almost condescending in his remarks to our table, possibly because it was a younger group of women? Our server was Scott. His attitude definitely took away from the experience.
Our dinner was excellent. Feel great about having this so close by.
Yes I would definitely recommend this place. It’s a family run restaurant, the owner is very nice. The staff is so polite and accommodating. The food was awesome too! I had a wonderful experience here.
Great place that you always feel comfortable in. Our waiter Scott feels like an old friend without being intrusive. I dream about their Old Fashioneds. Everything we've tried has exceeded our expectations.
Good writer service. Kitchen was slow.
It's a nice, relatively small, upscale restaurant and the food is quite good. Enjoyed Mushroom soup, mussels, Horseradish crusted whitefish, etc. The problem was our waiter who seemed to be rushing us to place our orders (and perhaps not understanding English very well) but most of all - THE NOISE level is just too much. Maybe we're just getting too old - just don't feel like shouting to communicate.
Excellent food (steaks, scallops, pasta dishes) and service. Small and noisy bar. Seating isn't particularly comfortable. But food quality wins out.
I always go for the Lobster Crostini, One of the best, most decadent appetizers there is. If they made it a main course I would order that too. My wife had the mushroom soup w/a drizzle of truffle oil in it. Very good! Main courses were the Seafood Risotto for my wife and I had the Brisket/Short Rib Burger. Risotto had delicious flavor but I thought the rice was a little to al dente. Burger was delicous, great combo of the 2 meats.
The food is always outstanding, Our server, Scott, is superior in every way.
Spectacular food and staff.
Great find and the food and service was fantastic!! Will be going back alot.
Excellent Dining experience!!!
Excellent food and service
Food was delicious. They were very accommodating as far as our table preference.
This was our first time there. The food was quite good. We liked the energy of the room, and we were greeted with enthusiasm by the hosts. The courses came out rather quickly—we tried to slow them down, but failed, and were out of there in a hour. The rolls were excellent. Portions were large and creative. We sat at a table and waiters had a habit of clipping my shoulder as they blew past, and about the third time this happened I considered talking to one of them, but didn't. It was quite expensive—$110, with tip, for salad (my wife had soup), fish courses and a glass of lemonade. But we would go back, on a special occasion.
No element missing.
Fantastic all around.
Lovely atmosphere and pleasant attentive staff. Truffled mushroom soup small but superb. Salad excellent. Unfortunately risotto not very well done and downgraded the very nice seafood within. Wish we had tried the meats, which may be superb.
Loved it. Everything about the place is great. Food is outstanding!!
We came in at 5:30 on a Friday night in celebration of a new job and everything we ate was phenomenal. It was fairly open then but around 6 pm the entire restaurant filled up quickly, so I’m glad we came a bit early. My fiancée is a vegetarian and he was very impressed with the vegetarian French onion soup (hadn’t seen that before!). His salad was also delicious. I tried the mushroom soup and it was fantastic and filling. I’d heard the surf and turf was also tasty so I treated myself and it was the best lobster tail I’d ever had. It was as if it was marinated in butter overnight in the best way possible, it was just so tender and flavorful. The filet was delicious too, and I felt the price for this was fair for its high quality. Overall fabulous dinner, definitely will return soon with other family members.
the server, Sean was fantastic, the food was absolutely delicious
The food here is solid. The first time we came we were very impressed by service and getting seated on time. This past visit food was once again solid but much of it served luke warm. There was a timing issue in the kitchen. Did not sit tables on time and service was lacking. Want to try a 3rd time and see what the true House 406 is!
Great food and service. They never disappoint.
We always enjoy dining at House 406. It's such a pleasure from beginning to end. It is obvious that everyone is dedicated to making the patrons feel welcome and offer excellent food and drinks. We will continue to frequent the restaurant and introduce our friends and family to a wonderful dining experience.
Server was very inattentive
Food was cold. returned and cold again
The entire evening was perfect, such nice people, delicious food, great drinks
