Excellent creative and delicious higher end menu especially for the Northshore that was very well executed. This place is a gem.
Only issue is it was a cool windy evening and we ate outside. Heaters were provided, but we were still pretty cold as they were not working well, have seen others figure out better options.
As a retired chef and restauranteur I commend all food service establishments for pushing through these trying times.
As for my pre meal cocktail, I ordered a Manhatten, it was well thought out and refined.
The autumn salad was well constructed, unfortunately the salads micro-bite sized pieces made it difficult to stab with a fork.
The main dish was a 16 oz cut of prime rib. It was sub par at best. It lacked flavor and texture for the price listed. When you charge $55 for a piece of prime rib it better melt in the mouth. The Brussel sprouts that I ordered as a side were served charred, it was not written as such in the menu, but I was willing to give it a try since I love Brussel sprouts. There is a difference between charred and burnt. These were so bitter I regret not saying anything about it.
At this point we didn't even bother with dessert as we had lost our appetite.
Our service overall was not what I would consider as attentive. As soon as we received our meal our server lost interest in us. He was not engaging nor did he offer any suggestions or even attempt to up sell us on anything.
I am more than willing to help out the F&B industry in these trying times. But don't overcharge me for a mediocre meal.
Unfortunately I will not be returning to House 406.
The ambience was great and the alcohol list extensive. Did take quite some time for us to get service. Main dish (shrimp lobster pasta) had SO much garlic. But we did thoroughly enjoy the meal.
Delicious food with friendly service. The roasted corn chowder was really good. Had a hard time deciding what to eat; so many dishes looked attractive.
Celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary with another couple. Everything from complementary prosecco to main course was perfect! Thank you House 406
Fabulous as always!!!!!! Wonderful staff and delicious food
As always, the food was amazing and the service was outstanding. We always enjoy our experience here.
Lovely place. One of the better places on the North Shore
Always awesome food and service. One of our favorites.
Some of the best fish dishes I’ve had.
House 406 is a hidden gem of good eating. I am astonished at each meal that I have there by their creativity, the variety of flavors, and the value of the meal. I hope they keep up their great work and excellent service. It is a joy!
Love their craft cocktails and high end wine selection
Always a winner...
We had a lovely dinner. It was the 1st time dining indoors in 6 months and we felt very safe. Plenty of social distancing going on in the dining room.
Food great service terribly slow.
Scallops were outstanding
We went to House 406 to celebrate our anniversary with family. Fantastic waitstaff & great food! Dessert took a bit long, but it was a beautiful night outside, so we didn’t mind.
Fantastic per usual! Food, service and ambiance is what you want for an everyday night and/or special event. The service (specific to Shawn the head waiter or Jen the owner) is always consistent/fantastically awesome in every way. Huge thumbs 👌 up for a quaint great spot close to downtown Northbrook.
Great night out supporting our local restaurants! Food is great, service was awesome.
As usaual House 406 was amazing. Sean is the perfect waiter, extremely knowlegeable and efficie t. The outdoor space is perfection. Very well done. We will dine here again while the weather remains good.
I was really disappointed by dinner tonight, especially when this restaurant has been outstanding in the past. The service was slow, and the drinks were not mixed well. My wife’s fish was way over cooked and my pasta dish was flavorless. I added chicken to the dish and it was the best part of it. Something must have changed here, because I used to love this place. On the positive side, the outside tent was very nice and made outdoor dining a pleasure.
Birthday . Great food and great service!!
Loved the food....
My husband and I went here for our 13th wedding anniversary. We arrived and were seated promptly. There was both in door and outdoor seating available. We choose to be seated indoor which turned out to be amazing as we had the restaurant to ourselves. This was perfect as it felt extremely intimate for my husband and I
Service was great, our food was hot well seasoned and flavorful we had very attentive waiters and I will be back upon returning to Northbrook.
Started off well with a very good appetizer, but went downhill from there.
My wife had chicken with polenta that had a very runny wet sauce. Looked like something from the frozen food section.
I had chunk crab linguine except there were no chunks. It was cooked in a brown sauce and the crab was shredded and looked like shredded pork. My son opened the leftovers and actually said “cool, pork spaghetti”. I was warned it may be a bit spicy, but there was no spiciness at all.
Then dessert was supposed to be a peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream, there was essentially no crust and it was more like peach vanilla soup.
The Staff was excellent.
I did not complain because it was a special occasion and I didn’t want to go that route.
Not impressed at all, and will not go back.
Had the ribeye and it was incredible. Looking forward to having it again.
As always, we loved the ambiance, the service and food! It’d be great to see some new ideas on the menu.
We love this place. The hand made cocktails are the best and we love eating outside. The owner Jen is always wonderful and remembers us every time.
Great food good service nice menu I really hope they can make it through this time
I’d give it five stars, but they ran out of whitefish on us. :( the old fashioneds are amazing. Overall grateful to have such an excellent restaurant nearby.
Excellent food and we really enjoyed this restaurant
Love this place!!! Amazing cocktails and food! It’s never disappointed!
Delicious food, great service. Only problem was some of the outdoor tables in the front of the restaurant are right by the entrance to the place next door.
Great drinks created by knowledgeable mixologist. very friendly and professional service. Great food and yummy desserts.
always enjoyable, a great favorite for carryout and dining
Amazing experience. Service and food was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend whitefish and scallops.
First introduction to 406 and had a very positive experience, quiet ambience though given the number of diner limitations with current circumstances may be different if more fully booked. Friendly service with an engaged and informative server. Relatively small menu selection but food was delicious and a great value for the sophistication of the dishes. Chose the daily special of scallops with mushroom risotto and the scallops and risotto were perfectly prepared. The house made carrot cake also a must. Plan to return in the future.
The mussels were not very good, white wine sauce did not have much flavor and mussels were grainy. My husband got the whitefish which was ok. I got the scallop special and the risotto was watery and bland.
It was a lovely evening. The food was delish, and the service was excellent. It was a beautiful evening to be sitting outside. We look forward to our next dinner at House.
