Expansive cocktail menu! The steak frites entree was delicious I was very impressed. It’s one of my favorite dishes and I’ve had it many places and this one was memorable.
Second time around, this time for brunch after having dinner and drinks previously. You cannot beat the view. The hotel and the restaurant are very impressive, with a great modern feel. Made a reservation and was seated promptly. We ordered coffee, and while there were cream and sugar on the table, your utensil set does not come with a spoon. I would suggest adding a spoon to your standard set as I stirred my coffee with my fork and I watched a neighboring diner stir their mimosa with a knife. To echo many other reviewers the service was slow. Our waitress was lovely I don't think it's a reflection of her as I had this same problem at dinner with another server. I feel like they must be understaffed. We really liked the chorizo dish (though it was a bit cold) and the dutch baby. Wonderful breakfast potatoes. Seems they need some more servers/staff running out dishes and filling water glasses. Overall still enjoyed myself. I'll keep coming back and hopefully it will just keep getting better :)
When 1st reviewing the menu, I was disappointed that it was so limited, we felt that we would not have enough variety for the party of 6. While, some still felt that way we made it work. When we arrived, wedding guest were all over the hotel in "cocktail" hour and it was congested, but the restaurant had reserved tables for their guest so in spite of the crowed, guests with reservations were seated promptly. When we were our server, Paige greeted us immediately. We shared that we were going to see Black Violin at the Meyerhof. She said, well let's get to ordering so you can make that event on time! Once the wedding guest cleared out, we saw Topside in all her splendor! The spectacular view, the pumped in music, the vibe of the patrons that were coming in to mix and mingle, the "play area" and the tiki bar room made us so happy, we did not want to leave! As we dined on awesome, flavorful, plentiful food we were planning our next visit to be a part of the vibe and scene. Topside, you are a neighborhood gem...expand the menu, but keep the ambiance. Looking forward to our next venture on the top floor!
The view of Mt Vernon is stunning! Been to Topside several times - food is always delicious and the service is supreme.
The Sunday brunch dj was a surprise but the music was decent. The service was bad and the mimosas even worse and because the food wasn't outstanding, I'll likely never return.
Food was delicious and service was great. I had the crab salad sandwich and my fiancé has the steak & eggs. Steak portion was smaller than he anticipated for the price but it tasted good.
Thank you for the great review!
overall very good. Dutch baby and the biscuits and gravy were the highlights is brunch. Surprisingly the burger was the most disappointing item (menu describes as Bibb lettuce, came out with some shredded iceberg and what looked like a handful of shredded cheddar.) However I’ve had the burger before and it was great, so maybe an off morning. Can’t beat the view.
Unparalleled views, great menu, Superb value. Loud bar crowd, but fun atmosphere.
Hi John. So glad you enjoyed your time with us, hope to see you again soon!
The place was recommend to me, and I inturned passed that energy along and invited a friend to experience this place as well. I did not disappoint. And of course the view during sunset is priceless.
Hi Charlie! I'm so glad you enjoyed your experience. Thank you so much for the great feedback.
The mussels and clams app was outstanding!!!
Thank you for the great feedback!
Food is the fancy food you try to avoid at all cost. If you are into that though, have fun because the price is fair. For a hotel restaurant it’s very disappointing. No flavor and nothing for the everyday great dinner. I will say I appreciate the staff and the atmosphere of the place. Truly magical view. I’m frustrated mostly because it was for a special occasion and everyone hyped up the food in the reviews. I would say in all honestly avoid all the food 100% and just stick to drinks and the view.
Hi! I am so sorry and truly embarrassed. We are always looking for ways we can make your experience better. I will take your feedback to the team and hopefully you will give us a second chance.
Stunning views made the slow service more tolerable.
Cool date night spot with great drink options and a good view of downtown Baltimore
The vibe was amazing and the music they play will having you singing at the table.
Yes I will be back.
Thank you for the amazing feedback! We hope to see you again soon .
I hate to give a bad review based on one visit because the restaurant might be having an unusual night. On the Friday we dined, there were a few problems, that others may not be bothered by. On the plus side, the views of Baltimore are really wonderful and the staff are pleasant and efficient. We expected to find a hip and sophisticated vibe, but with the large number of young children present and a bachelorette party in progress, the place was very loud and it felt like eating in a day care center/sorority house. Sorry for being a grump, young families would feel very comfortable here. My wife's flounder was very good, as was my side salad. Unfortunately, my large portion of catfish had two pieces that were properly cooked and two pieces that were under-cooked on the inside. Fortunately the two good pieces were more than enough to fill me up. My corn pudding was barely warm. Lastly, the chair designer should have their license revoked because these slippery wooden chairs were among the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat in. Hopefully, this was just an unusual night as I wish this restaurant well in this part of town.
Hi, I apologize your night was less than perfect but i'm glad you enjoyed the food for the most part. Thank you for your feedback, I will take this back to the team as we are always looking for ways we can improve.
Great view of Baltimore with good drinks, service and food.
Topside has exceptional views and an energetic atmosphere. The wait staff is very attentive. We were seated right away. The drinks were well-made and creative. I had a thirst trap and a brandy Sidecar. The food was so disappointed. The watermelon and cucumber salad was presented beautifully, but the taste was bitter and old. My medium filet was practically well done but still tasty. My potato salad was delicious. Only two of the carrots on my plate were cooked the others were just raw. Char on the outside does not mean cooked on the inside. My partner ordered the burger without pickled onions. The burger arrived cold with a heap of pickled onions. The bun was not toasted in a little soggy. The bacon jam was sweet and savory. The fries were pretty much inedible. They arrived burnt hard and cold, honestly, really not fit to be served. We usually get dessert, but after the dinner shenanigans it was a hard pass. We were really looking forward to a great evening out. I may consider returning for drinks, but not for food.
Hi! I really apologize that your experience was anything less than perfect. I'm glad the service and the drinks won you over. I will definitely discuss this with the team and promise the food will be better the next time.
We had both dinner and breakfast in the hotel. We love views and the restaurant and it has one of the best views we have seen in Baltimore. They have a creative menu, and everything was very good. The service at night was great and we did not fill rushed to leave. The service in the morning was a bit odd. All service staff including the hostess seemed to disappear for a long period of time, and all at the same time. One woman who was cleaning and resetting tables never asked us if we needed anything, however once I asked if my husband if he needed coffee, she then brought it over. She never initiated and asked us. Regardless we highly recommend the restaurant and the hotel. It was a great stay.
It was wonderful! The food was divine!
Thank you for the great feedback! We hope to see you again soon!
Great view, great food, great service. Best kept secret in Mt Vernon
Hey Brendan! Thank you for the great review, we hope to see you again soon!
Food was very good, and portions were generous. Hamburger was cooked exactly to order. I especially liked the chorizo/ egg dish.
Hi Ralph! Thank you for the great feedback. We hope to see you again soon.
The food and service were both excellent! It was definitely quite loud in there and the menu is somewhat limited, but overall we had a good time.
Hi Stacey, we are glad you had a good time. Hope to see you again soon.
Everything but the noise level contributed to a satisfying experience. The noise level is UNACCEPTABLE!!!
Hi Andy! We apologize that this hindered your experience.
Ordered the clams and the broth was very tasty we couldn't eat because there was so much sand. Also ordered a pasta dish and the pasta was under cooked - very hard in the middle, not even close to al dente, more like raw.
Hi Liz, we are so sorry about this. Please give us another chance to show you a better experience.
Food was under seasoned
We apologize and hope you will give us a second chance.
Hotel that houses the restaurant is currently being worked on so there was scaffolding outside the building but you still had amazing views on the "rooftop"/top floor bar. Overall a great experience but they seem a little short staffed. Upon leaving the elevator we saw a sign that said to wait for a hostess. After a few minutes I went to the rest room. Upon returning my friend was still waiting to be seen. We walked into the main area to seek help, and no one really seemed to notice. Finally about ten minutes later someone arrived at the stand. We had a reservation and they had to find/clear a table for us for probably another ten minutes. There is a cute lounge area we waited in. When seated our very nice waitress introduced herself, got us some water and took our drink order. Drinks were great, but again, slow. Food was also great, I recommend the cauliflower app, mussels in broth, and porchetta. I didn't love the lamb ribs. We decided to stay for another round of drinks after eating, the place was dwindling down to a few late night diners by that time. Not sure what happened but these drinks probably took about 30 minutes. We had to remind our server who then had to stop by several times to apologize for the wait. I was surprised to see them on the bill after that but it is what it is. Review maybe sounds more negative than it should as I really did have a wonderful evening there. Overall still working out some kinks but I will gladly go back and recommend to others, just not if you're looking for a quick bite/sip.
Very basic environment in terms of setting a decoration. Nothing like the picture which is a room for drinks only come to find out. There were very large booths which was very awkward for a date. Construction all over the outside of building did not help.
Hi! We apologize that your experience wasn't what you expected. We hope you come back and give us another chance.
Amazing view of Baltimore! Very lively place, decor is great, food was delicious and drinks were perfect! In fact, we are going back again this weekend and taking an out of town guest with us! You may have new regulars!
Hey Lindsay! That's great, I'm so glad you enjoyed your time with us. See you soon.
Great food, great views, and great service.
Hey David! Thanks for the great feedback. Hope to see you again soon
My husband and I have been to Topside previously; however, this time, we brought our children (15, 13, and 10). As usual, everything was great.
SERVER: yes, I put that in caps on purpose. Our server was Cassie and she was so awesome. She was so attentive and great with my family. I have a daughter who is very soft spoken and she was very patient with her.
Appetizer: we had the Confit Duck Wings. They had great flavors, both sweet and tangy. Duck has a tendency to be greasy and these were not at all. I wish we would have gotten more but always the mom I worried the kids would ruin their appetite. Next time, I will probably also get the Braised Beef Nachos (they were made with tongue and cheek) and the Mussels and Clams (there was a list of broths...yum).
Main: my kids had the Topside Cheese Burger (cooked medium). You would think of course...snore. But these were not typical burgers. They had a red dragon cheese, which had some mustard seed incorporated. It gave it a tang but wasn’t overpowering. Also, there was bacon jam for sweet, and pickled onions (ok, they didn’t partake in the onions). But they finished the whole burger and the fries and they pretty particular about their burgers.
My husband had the Catfish and Chips. It was a really generous portion and well fried catfish served with fries and malt aioli and a corn pudding that was very good. He couldn’t finish all of his so we had some to take home.
I had the Wagyu Bistro Filet (cooked medium rare). The cook was perfect and it was served cut in half like “see - your cook is perfect.” As someone who takes my steak temp seriously, I appreciate not having to wait to find out if you got it right. It was served with warm potato salad that was a great combination with the porcini butter. Man, I wish I had some left like my husband but I almost licked my plate had it not been bad form. It was delicious!
And they were spinning old school R&B which had us dancing in our seats. The atmosphere was energetic.
Thank you for the amazing comments! We agree, Cassie is amazing. We hope to see you and your lovely family again soon.
Awesome cocktails/mixed drinks. Great rooftop views. Some of the dishes, like the tempura squash flowers, simply great, and everything was tasty.
Hi! Thank you, i'm glad you had a good time. The squash blossoms are my favorite!
Lovely place in a great spot.
Thank you! Hope to see you again soon.
Excellent food and great drinks. Really chic hotel and good food. Great views. A little pricey, but hey, we should be paying a fair wage.
Thank you for your amazing feedback!. Hope to see you again soon!
Rooftop restaurant with great atmosphere and view of the city. A lot of scaffolding around the building at the time we went, so the view was a bit effected. Food was "okay". Had the nacho appetizer which was very good, but the steak for dinner was overcooked and egg bake side dish with the catfish was pretty dry and pasty. But it's a nice ambiance and a good neighborhood spot in Mt/Vernon
Hi Jess, i'm glad you enjoyed the nachos! I hope you will give us another chance to wow you.
Went for restaurant week. My meal was great except for the donut which tasted hard and stale.
Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed most of your meal. Please come back and see us soon to enjoy our regular menu.
Wonderful overall. Terrific view and atmosphere. Food ranged from good to outstanding. Will definitely go back, and will become regular visitors.
Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed your experience with us.
We went for the view and were not told ahead of time that there was scaffolding around the building with partial views blocked of the city. Our appetizers were good- crab and corn hushpuppies and short rib sliders. My son had the scallops and enjoyed them very much. I had the lamb saddle roulade which was not very good-very rare, not much flavor and fatty. I love duck so this was a big disappointment. The dessert was not very good. The donut was stale and the and the byo ice cream was truly a waste with all the toppings on a tray- so much left over. Would have been better if they had a station set up to make it. It was extremely noisy and overpriced for what we got. My son was in a wheelchair and we had to park a couple of blocks away with no curb cuts on the side of the street to get to the hotel. had to walk all the way back, cross the street and use curb cuts on other side.
Hi Patty, I'm glad you got to enjoy some of your meal, I hope you give us another chance in the future. We apologize for the inconvenience of the scaffolding.
Overall experience was great. The server could have had a little more speed
Hi. Thank you for dining with us. Thank you for your feedback, we will work on it.
It was a 1st date, everyone from Eric the bartender to our server Paige was outstanding. We had salads that were to die for and the blue catfish, corn pudding and fries were just this side of perfect. My date was impressed and consented to see me again. Thanks Topside!
Hi! Thank you for the great review. I'm glad you and your date had a great dinner with us. Come back soon.
Awesome view and the bottomless brunch bellinis & mimosas were great!
Hi DeLisia, Im' glad you had a great time. Thank you for dining with us!
