French
Rustic country house hotel meets bohemian Paris is how we would describe this luxe boutique hotel in Newcastle's historic Quayside district. Situated in the former home of Tyne Tees Steam Shipping Company with views of the Tyne, this decadent venue is home to the Bistro restaurant - a cosy place popular for business lunches, dates and dinner parties. One of the key features here is the eclectic wine list hand-picked by Chef Sommelier Ian Cobham, and the flamboyantly French menu includes favourites such as the shredded duck salad with honey-mustard dressing, and the smoked Craster haddock. The dining room at the Bistro is a stylish space decorated with a mismatched wooden tables, leather banquettes, and ivy-covered lemon-coloured walls.

Lovely Chateaubriand for 2 served perfectly. Great service and a fantastic wine list. All in all a great place to eat. Not too busy for a Saturday night either so good to know if you were (like us) deciding last minute to eat on a Saturday night, only to find everywhere booked. Will go back again for sure!

First time at this restaurant and was very happy with the experience. The service was great and the food was delicious. We felt very relaxed and, despite it being fairly busy, we were not rushed into finishing our meal or leaving.

Dined on a Saturday evening around 8pm. Very busy and a reservation is required. Service a bit slow, probably because it was so busy. Friendly waiter. Wine list a bit expensive and disappointed with one of the red wines which was under the "Soft and Fruity" list but was really heavy and full bodied. Food was very good. The mains had huge portions of meat (too much to manage). Would have prefered smaller portions to allow room for dessert.

Very underwhelmed by the experience. Food below par, service worse and overpriced.

a starter of 3 scallops cost £11.95 - thats £4 each! the halibut costing £22.95 came with no potatoes or veg. had to pay another £8 for frites and veg. bill included 10% service charge which i was not made aware of . i paid cash for meal and not getting my change added up to a tip inc service charge equivalent to 30% ! won't go again! being away from the centre of newcastle they need to be more competitive in their pricing.

We visited Hotel du Vin on a Saturday evening & were impressed with the prompt & helpful service. Our drinks arrived quickly & we enjoyed delicious canapés (warm duck rillettes on brioche & mini crab cakes) & scallop starters. We then shared Chateaubriand, which was perfectly cooked, & served with a cone of thin crispy chips. The rather tasteless cauliflower cheese was the only disappointment. Desserts were a generous cheese selection & crepe suzettes, which had obviously sat on the plate for a while. Mostly an excellent meal, although quite expensive. One other problem was the level of noise when we arrived & the overloud music. Later on, the noise reduced & the ambience improved. We will certainly go again, but probably not on a Saturday.

Not particularly friendly. Sitting area layout doesn't work and was cold and drafty. Over priced Sauv Blancs both NZ & £30+. My starter was cold (mushrooms on brioche) though hubby enjoyed crayfish cocktail and his cassoulet. The bill was over £80 which we thought wasn't a good reflection on our experience. We won't be back I'm afraid which is sad as this could be a smashing place.

Had a lovely meal for Valentines. Great food, service was good even though the restaurant was very busy (which made it a tiny bit on the loud side, but that's to be expected around 14 Feb). Been here before and would go back again.
