A Chicago staple for a reason, this place carves out a niche for itself by having some truly unique menu items. Bring your sweet tooth, as the hot chocolate is an absolute must, with lots of options and flavor combinations. A full bakery serving cookies, rolls, breads, scones, donuts and other assorted musings. Or sit down and have actual breakfast, sausage, eggs, french toast, whatever; everything has been good anytime I am here. Definitely make a reservation if you can, otherwise you'll be waiting as there is always a line out the door. The dining room is a bit cramped, and naturally the noise level is often very high. But for food this good, all of that can be forgiven.

Food was very good as always but we had some service issues -- not receiving our kids' meals or drinks until long after we had received ours, and waiting 5-10 minutes for our check; the wait staff was working hard but perhaps they were understaffed or paying closer attention to other parties. A disappointment for us with afternoon plans.

When planning my trip to Chicago this restaurant popped up as "must try" place. My friend and I were NOT disappointed. It is intimate seating so you are close to your dining neighbor but we didn't find this intrusive. In fact, we had a nice chat with the couple sitting next to us about our hot chocolate and they ended up ordering the same thing. The food was fresh, superb quality and I am very appreciative to restaurants that utilize local, seasonal fare. We loved the hot chocolate so much we ended up going to Revival Food Hall near our hotel just to have another cup before leaving the city. Definitely would go back during another trip to the Windy City!

Had high hopes for this restaurant and even though the taste of the food and the ambiance were great, the service was terrible. Not to mention I found a piece of hair in my entree and other than swapping it out for another dish, nothing else was done. Usually a Manager would come and apologize but that didn't happen

It was okay. The chocolate is very very very dense And rich. I had chocolate squared desert and immediately felt like I was going to be sick. Super thick and basically just a jar of thick chocolate. The actual food was just ok. Leaves a lot to be desired but the raspberries and peaches dessert was good. The hot cocoa is also pretty thick. If I ever go back it'll just be for the hot cocoa. It's a beautiful place for a date but not even worth the money.

Everything about Hot Chocolate is special. Friendly staff, delicious food, then there is the hot chocolate. No question it is the best. Period. If I am lucky I get to visit once a year. I live in Ky. I brought two others that had heard me sing their praises for years. They admitted that they were sure I had oversold how Great it was. They both agreed with me. A delicious treat.

Pros: the cheeseburger, chocolate malted, and the coffee ice cream Cons: the host not seating us when we had a reservation and we were only missing one person. also, the place wasn't full on a weeknight and they still put us by the bathroom. service was spotty throughout the meal.

Please let me have more stars so I can give them to Hot Chocolate. We had the Chai hot chocolate and the classic, and they were both unreal. The Chai was possible perfection. I was mildly hungover, and the only thing that cures me is potatoes. I know potatoes. The breakfast potatoes were the best potatoes I've ever had in my entire life. Ever. All the hangovers, all the potatoes, have been leading me to these potatoes. Wild.

Every time we go here we do everything. Drinks, Dinner and desserts. Everything is always wonderful. If we didn't live so far North we would stop in for coffee and desserts in the evening more often.

Everything we ordered was fantastic. We returned for a five-year anniversary dinner, having visited Mindy’s twice during our honeymoon. Everything was perfectly prepared and timed well. The drinks were great, and were fairly unique. Jessica was a spectacular server, and elevated an already incredible meal. I’d hire her in a heartbeat for any hospitality job—one of the top five servers I’ve ever had. —M

Overall, I would go back to Hot Chocolate and recommend it. They gave us a great table and seated us right away. Unfortunately, I didn't like my meal very much, but everyone else in my group enjoyed their food. The hot chocolate was delicious, but a bit over priced I thought. I was also disappointed that despite me stating in the reservation on the app and over the phone that this was for a birthday they didn't say anything or bring anything to our table for the occasion. Perhaps places don't do that anymore? Anyways, I plan to go back for desserts since I hear that's what they are known for!

Every time we go back to Hot Chocolate, we're a little surprised that not only is it still really, really good, it might have actually gotten even better. For a restaurant that's been around for awhile, that's not always the case. Service was terrific, the food was delicious (possibly the best mac and cheese we've ever had, delicious focaccia with ricotta, faro risotto, seasonal bread pudding, and of course, hot chocolate. We can't wait to go back. It is on the noisy side (even on a Wednesday night) but that's part of its appeal.

My friend and I went there for desssert and a drink. The original dessert we wanted the seasonal cake was no longer available so I ordered the blueberries and my friend ordered the bananas - I was not fond of the blueberries it was a little too tart and there were still stems on some of the blueberries. We both asked for spoons and that never happened and the server never came by and asked how things were just dropped off the check. I was very disappointed in the service.

I love this place. I have lunch here a couple times a month and I am never disappointed. Fantastic food, spotless service and of course delicious desserts. It's not every restaurant that makes me break out the alliterative accolades but this one does!

The desert was well worth the drive. I found the salmon appetizer to be WAY too salty and wouldn't recommend it. The stars here are the deserts. Amazing milkshake and amazing pot de creme. Best of the best and worth the trip for dessert.

Memorable, exquisite, romantic, and lovely. Words cannot adequately describe my experience at Hot Chocolate. I had to indulge in the positive rumors; I found the Macaroni & Cheese to be delicious, but I suggest that the red potatoes is a must order, truly exquisite.
