Hortus is not just about great recipes and excellent ambiance. It starts from the ground up - we pride ourselves in providing a menu that delights the palate while celebrating sustainable and seasonal ingredients. We aim to push people to experience Asian flavors in a new-American style.
I very much enjoyed my dining experience at Hortus. It's described as Contemporary Asian but I think it has more of a Korean influence as far as the dishes to start, to share and the sides. The small plate like the calamari tempura was substantial for the price and it was tasty and delicious. The grilled rib eye with romaine and mushrooms was actually enough to share to our satisfaction. What I really enjoyed was the soju base 5th Ave. cocktail with lime that was so refreshing. The ambiance was soothing and our servers were attentive when appropriate. I would definitely return to Hortus and highly recommend it for a satisfying dining experience.
I was really impressed with this restaurant. Every dish was a big hit at our table. Excited to come back again soon!
It was my first time having dinner at HORTUS and I had a really great time with my friend. Foods were delicious and flavorful and the price was pretty affordable. I will be there soon to try the Chef's tasting course.
It was really great experience for contemporary asian cuisine. Service and food was great.
Hortus nyc have great vibe for friends and family.
I will go back hortus soon with my family.
One of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time and an unbelievable value. The tasting menu for two people is under $100 and they don't skimp.
If I had to describe the food in one line it would be "Korean flavored Jeffrey's Grocery" (and Jeffrey's Grocery is one of my favorite restaurants). The main difference is Hortus offers significantly better value in a more comfortable setting.
Come and get it while you can. This deal can't possibly be here for much longer.
Very good food, however, the wine pairing shouldn't even be called a wine pairing. 3 wines, but one was repeated, no concept of pairing whatsoever and no presentation of the wine before serving. Highly recommend the food, but don't go for the wine pairing on the menu.
Good food. Noise level was perfect for conversations. Will be back!
Good foods with great ambiance. Reservation is recommended on weekends.
The night we had gone to Hortus was our first time there.
It seem to be a slow night. There were only about five table occupied, the noise level was quite high.
We decided to have a bottle of saki, and I had asked the waitress if she could recommend a smooth and dry saki. She suggested a saki that also happen to be one of the most expensive . I told her I didn't want to spend that much money . I asked if we could taste a couple of the lower priced bottles and she brought over two glasses, which we all tried and agreed on the same one ( which happen to be one of the least expensive bottles). Everything we ordered on the menu was fantastic. All the dishes were very flavorful and different. We left the restaurant very satisfied .
Food was outstanding! It's Asian Fusion served in small plates, like tapas. You order a few starters and main courses and share them with the table.
Went with the Prix Fixe menu option for dinner and it was both exceptional in taste and value. Portions are quite robust, yet quality is not in anyway sacrificed. Dined upstairs which is beautifully decorated and quite cozy and comfortable seating. Service was some of the best I have experienced in the city, and the food came out timely. Don’t hesitate to book dinner or date night at this wonderful Asian Fusion spot.
Everything was great except service
The place wasn’t busy but waitress still made us rush brought check with out asking like time to go and She wasn’t polite and friendly since we came the restaurant.(I don’t care She may have bad day but she doesn’t have to show me during her working hours)i didn’t like it.But Ambiance and foods were great.
Food was great! good value for money and location was great
Very good appetizers. I love sea urchin and steak salad. Innovative desserts of Thai ice tea brûlée. I had a good time and conversation with my girlfriends. Will take my husband there too.
Inventive, different and delicious. 4 course price fix shared menu was fabulous, and a great value for NYC. Service was attentive but never rushed. Overall...amazing food, ambience and service.
We were three for dinner. All servings were outstanding from 2 x calamari to ribeye to kimchi. Our server was professional and attentive.
