Horseradish Grill - Buckhead Ratings and Reviews
We were in Atlanta for the Americas Mart Gift Show. Horseradish Grill came recommended as we were dining at another restaurant the night before! So happy we listened! We loved the Horseradish Grill! Mark, our waiter, was fantastic. He recommended a great Cav from the wine list, Justin, which we are hoping to find back home! The crab cakes and the lamb chops were awesome! I'd go back more, if we lived closer!
We made reservations for lunch for a birthday celebration. The service was very attentive and the food was good, but not great because it was not very warm. The biscuits were somewhat cold and would have been better if the butter would melt into them. Two of us had the Benedict special and one had the pork hash. The eggs on the hash were not poached well, they were overdone. I would like to go back for lunch or dinner vs. brunch.
In short, we didn't really have anything that was bad, but we didn't really have anything notable. Given all the great restaurants around Atlanta, the only reason I would return to Horseradish Grill is if I lived in the immediate neighborhood. Service was fine - friendly, but not quite on top of things. Both cocktails I tried were not well made - not poorly conceived, just poorly balanced ingredients.
-Pimiento Cheese Fritters - good, but it's fried cheese - how can it not be? Not notable.
-Fried Green tomatoes - I'll preface this by saying I think Fried Green Tomatoes are one of the most overrated dishes out there - I rarely find them to be better than OK. These reinforced that opinion.
-BBQ Pork appetizer - enjoyable, but pretty average in the realm of BBQ pork (and don't be looking for any smoke flavor).
-Fried Chicken - if this is their signature dish, they need to make some changes. It's about as average as it gets. The Mac & Cheese side is good.
-Braised Beef Short Rib - I'd definitely recomend this over the Fried Chicken. The beef itself was quite tasty. The polenta that came with it was not good at all.
Went for my birthday - food was excellent. Alex our waiter was great, very personable, and really knew the menu and made good recommendations. We had a piece of chocolate cake from the in-house bakery that was wonderful, and they didn't charge us for the cake, which was really nice and appreciated.
My parents were in town for the holidays and wanted a quiet spot for lunch. There was a lot of energy and atmosphere at Horseradish Grill but we were still able to hear one another. The food was outstanding and our waiter was fantastic. It's got southern charm covered in every way!
As usual, a wonderful dining experience EXCEPT for the Hostess RUSHING us to our table as soon as we arrived AT 5:00PM, because “We’re going to be very busy tonight”. When we left at 6:30 PM, the restaurant was not even half full! NOT a good Hostess and not looking forward to dealing with her ever again!
Thank you Darrell for being so attentive and personable. This was the last committee meeting for someone who has given years to promote improvements in my industry. I'm so glad I was able to take her somewhere unique in Atlanta. The staff accommodated our alterations on what was on the menu and we loved the wine-down Monday. A great experience and a fitting farewell to a long time colleague.
This is becoming out go-to spot for friends catch up over great food. This time we sat in the bar since the dining room was packed and quite loud as a result and one guest was concerned about being able to hear. Choosing the bar seating is probably most enjoyable if sharing lots of appetizers and cocktails as the server was also the bartender and she is buffeted by the dining room needs. That is a minor affect. We had a lovely evening.
Our brunch was marred by extremely slow service due (I think) to a number of large parties which arrived around the same time. The brunch dishes, as usual, were all top notch. It was the wait that seemed interminable between the arrival of the bakery basket and our entrees.
This is the second time in a row that I made a special request for a table and was asked when I arrived where I would prefer to be seated. This restaurant obviously does not look at the request section of the reservation! Our waiter was OK but nothing special. I had to make a couple of requests twice. Also, it took 30 minutes for our food to arrive and there were only two or three tables occupied upon our arrival. The food runner, Jose, was excellent as he was on previous visits. Not sure why he not a waiter as he always hustles more than most of the waiters and seems to have been there forever.
The hostess promised a main dining room table at booking but then we were seated in the basement.....yuck. The manager did an awesome job getting us re-seated at a great table for our family’s Thanksgiving meal. Server was good. Food was good - but not great. Definitely will be back to try their non-holiday meals.
Horseradish Grill is always a great evening out, its consistently good food and the atmosphere is like you are eating in your own living room....,with a lot more people of course! They always have great crab cakes, good fish and always you can count on grits! I've eaten lunch there a few times too, and that is always good....put this one in the rota!
