Excellent food as always and our server Riley was exceptional. Can't wait to go back.
Delicious and authentic
Great food and service as always.
Excellent service. Tables were safely spaced apart.
The Mushroom Appetizer was the Best!!
not a good value and food was moderate. Some dishes were cold and very little service to check.
I ordered the wagyu strip and had trouble cutting it with a steak knife. It definitely was not wagyu. Choice beef cuts easier than this steak did. Sides were average. I've visited multiple times and all have been great, but this time all of our appetizers and entrees were completely average. I don't mind spending money but for what you pay for, the value is definitely not there with the subpar food.
So good we ate here 2 nights in a row. Lodge experience with great cocktails and wonderful ambience.
Food was good but was hoping it would be great
Excellent. Reservation required due to limited seating
Horn & Cantle never disappoints. We sat on the porch and watched the horses walk by the beautiful property. Birds perching in the surrounding Aspen trees. Wonderful service. Delicious wine and food. We had the vegan tacos and Chablis. Satisfying but not overly heavy -- what we wanted as we hiked after lunch.
Amazing restaurant. Don’t miss it if in Big Sky Montana. Thursday evenings live music.
Service and atmosphere were first class. Food was enjoyed by all and we will visit again.
Fantastic food in a romantic, Montana lodge atmosphere. Service was wonderful and the food was amazing. The chef is not afraid of seasoning the food. It has a French influence w western ingredients. We had the steak tartar that was perfect, the bison striploin and the trout. All were outstanding and they have an excellent wine list. We stayed at the ranch and breakfast was equally delicious. We will be back!
If not for the service experience, I would give Horn & Cantle high marks. The good: Amazing rustic ambiance. Superior regional food. Excellent wine & drink menu. The bad: Our waiter was hopelessly out of sync. He appeared rather confused when we asked specific questions about the menu. The drinks came out sporadically and in the wrong order. The food was poorly paced. He seemed oblivious to anything being wrong.
Eleveated “Western cuisine” characterized by excellent meats done to perfection.
The place is very nice but the food is super expensive for the value. We didn’t have meat but the trout was two very small fillet for 35.00 dollars. If you are vegetarian you have a 30 dollar option quesadilla, that’s crazy ! House wine 14 dollars. I guess if you are a meat eater it might be better but prepare your wallet !
I had pretty high expectations for this restaurant. The food was good but I'm not sure it hit my expectations. The ambience was amazing. The building was beautiful and very unique which my family really enjoyed. My mom ordered the fried chicken while I had the duck. In the future I'd probably pass on the duck and get the chicken. The duck was good but incredibly difficult to cut with a butter knife...
Excellent experience. Best restaurant in Big Sky by far!
A must eat in a big sky. Amazing cocktails. Hearty portions
The service, food, and ambiance were wonderful. I have a gluten allergy, and our waitress, Michelle, was attentive to it and even brought me gluten-free bread.
The trout spread is amazing! I could make a meal of it!
Ryan helped us with drink selections and was warm, friendly and quite knowledgeable. The food was delicious - the portions are huge, so you won’t go away hungry!
The place has a quaint, rustic (yet classy) western charm. Steve at the bar is helpful and welcoming. One of the best dining experiences on the mountain.
Everything was wonderful! Lots of food!!
Great food and great service
What an amazing setting! Ate here for lunch with my wife and returned a couple of days later with a friend for dinner in the bar because the setting and food was so good. The lunch was a buffet that was amazing. The chili was out of this world but the whole spread was delicious. The Lodge itself is heavenly and worth the trip just to see the setting. For dinner we weren't able to get a reservation so we ate in the bar/saloon which was quite fun. The beet salad was quite nice and the elk was good, although a bit thin and not cooked perfectly. The bartender was very attentive and served well made cocktails. Overall an excellent choice for a meal with ambience galore.
Great place for a great meal. The food and service is very good and you will receive the friendly welcome you would expect from Montana locals.
Fantastic place to dine as a couple. Never rushed, but always attentive staff. Recommend you come early for a cocktail at the bar or outside before your reservation. Reservations are pretty necessary, and normally the good time slots are taking a few weeks out. We have nothing but amazing things to say about all the food and drinks we ordered that night. We cant wait to make it back again!
Absolutely love this restaurant. The food is unbelievable. My two favorites are the fried chicken and the ribeye. It’s the best fried chicken I have ever had. The wait staff are so friendly. If you’re not making this place part of your ski trip you’re making a mistake
Overall the dinner was fine but not worth the price. Some meals didn't hit the mark as far as food and flavor combinations.
Outstanding!!! Our server Madeleine was very attentive without being interruptive. Good descriptions of the entrees and flavors we could expect. Food was outstanding- I had the special of ox tail ragu and my husband had the short rib. Both were flavorful and very filling. Don’t forget the warm chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. Heavenly.
Great ambiance. Excellent service and sharing/ tapas approach to dining was a nice change of pace. We are headed back for a second dinner during our ski week as my family thought it was the best place we have tried in Big Sky.
We love Horn and Cantle. The bar has a super cute ambiance with live music. The dining room is a nice Montana setting and the food and service were great! We had the mussels, and Swiss fondue for apps they were delicious. I had the elk Bolognese and my husband had the Tomahawk steak. Both were delicious, the Elk Bolognese is the best I have had in the area. They also had great craft cocktails. Less than 10 minutes from the mountain village of Big Sky.
My girlfriend and I dined at Horn & Cantle while on a ski trip to Big Sky in January. Overall its was an excellent dining experience with one exception. The night we dined at the restaurant, the food was on the salty side. My girlfriend sent her 1st dish back (Haluka Pork Chop) as it was too salty. The server graciously took it back and my girlfriend got the Pappardelle with Elk Bolognese. The sauce was excellent but also a bit on the salty side (but not as bad) and my mashed potatoes were salty. Neither of us is on a low sodium diet and we both use some salt on many dishes at home so are not adverse to salt. With salt and pepper on the table I can't understand why food coming out of the kitchen was over salted. My Bison Rib was very good (1 is plenty btw) and the cedar plank mushroom appetizer was excellent. They have a very nice selection of wines by the bottle or glass which provides good options to pair with the food. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very nice. Overall we had a great experience and I would recommend this restaurant to others with the caveat that they mention not too much salt in the dishes ordered.
Food was amazing so fresh and perfectly seasoned and cooked. Can’t wait to go back and try everything on the menu
The food was outstanding, the service attentive but not intrusive, the ambience was amazing. I highly recommend it.
First: The "energetic" noise level means table conversation among the diners his difficult to impossible. Second, though, one of our servers kindly turned the speaker volume down. Later some one turned it up, but another word to the server and it was turned down again. Thank you. At the front end of our evening I felt we were being rushed. It was clear we were chatting before ordering, but the server came to the table about 3 times to ask us if we were ready to order. Finally, I asked him, "Do you need our table?" He seemed nonplussed by my question. I don't think he answered it. Later in the meal, things become more relaxed. After I got the bill and paid it, we were conversing. The server came and picked the bill up from the table. So, I said to my fellow diners: "I think they want us out of here." So, we left. I've eaten here many times over the years. This was an odd experience. We'll go back. Perhaps this was a one off experience.
Everything was great. the one negative i would say is that it was incredibly dark in the dining room, to the point that none of us could easily read the menu or see the color of the food. I am not sure whether it needs to be that dark! Still my favorite restaurant in Big Sky :)
Excellent food and service. It was just a little dark in the main room. However we were told this is one of the best spots in the area and it did not disappoint!
My family and I were delighted with our first visit to Big Sky and to Horn and Cantle, which we tried based largely on online reviews. It's a big space, so expect a little noise, but the service was outstanding and the food was delicious, better than we expected. We don't eat a lot of meat so were a little concerned about the menu being too meat-heavy, and indeed, there was a lot of meat. However, it was of such variety and high quality, that we thoroughly enjoyed all of it. The smoked elk meatballs were divine, and there were enough salads and veggie sides to balance the protein. I made a mistake regarding the time of our reservation and arrived 45 minutes late, but the kind staff was able to shift things around and accommodate us despite it being an extremely busy Saturday night. Thank you!
