Love this place and the ambiance. We have eaten here twice. Last year was excellent. This year the food was not as up to par as our previous visit. However I still like the place. Maybe it was just an off night on the food.
The place has so much charm and warmth. Just what you would expect and want for a Montana ranch restaurant. Luke our server was great really the entire crew. Loved all the fires plus the local musician made it even more enjoyable. Oh the food, terrific! The spiced gin cocktail and whiskey flights were a hit too. Thank you for a wonderful memorable evening!!
The atmosphere and the food were amazing! The service was very lacking unfortunately. When paying those prices I expect a level of service that is better than Long Horn. Our sever was friendly but became a ghost after we ordered. We sat for quite a while wanting to order coffee and dessert but decided to leave without after waiting 15 minutes for a menu.
The food however did not dissapoint!!
Delicious food in wonderful atmosphere. We ordered the tomahawk (32 oz.) steak to share, it has to be one of the most perfectly cooked steaks I have ever eaten. Sourdough bread that they brought to the table I am still dreaming about. Wine selection was great too.
Would have given 5 stars but we had issues with the potatoes that came with our steak, they were rock hard. We sent them back and when waiter brought them back thirty minutes later (long after we had finished the steak) and they were still inedible.
Elk meatball app is unbeatable.
Large local whisky selection.
The ambiance is great and our waiters was very friendly. The menu is limited compared to our past experiences. I would not recommend the bison short ribs. There is a new chef and the ribs are not braised. They are tough and rather tasteless. The cheese fondue appetizer was delicious.
This was our second time here, we got engaged at the Ranch the night before and everyone was so helpful in making sure we had an unforgettable experience! Our favorite place in Big Sky!
We went to Horn and Cantle for the first time for my birthday. We are locals and just live over the mountains in Paradise Valley. I made the reservation for the restaurant way in advance wanting a nice intimate place to enjoy my birthday dinner with my husband. Upon arriving they seated us not in the dining room but on the “veranda” directly in front of a gentleman playing guitar. It was so loud we couldn’t hear each other speak and a lot of folks were being rowdy and dancing and yelling lyrics to the music being sung. All good if I had been wanting a bar atmosphere but I wanted a romantic dinner with my husband for my birthday. When we inquired with the hostess about moving she told us that we had to request specifically to NOT be on the veranda. However we watched every single group get seated in the restaurant after us. The food was great and our server was phenomenal but I’d give the hostess a negative one stars and tell the manager that it’s absurd you need to “request” to be in the dining room when that’s the location the reservation was made for according to the website. Probably won’t spend any special events here in the future.
Wonderful everything! They never disappoint.
Best place in big sky . Great food in a warm and casual atmosphere
Great food, very friendly and helpful staff. Great environment. We will be sure to stop in again !!! Thanks !!
Sadly we were disappointed after looking forward to dining here for some time. My brisket mac n cheese was cold and flavorless and my daughter’s potato salad served too cold and again largely flavorless. The music was distracting and very loud and seemed at odds with the beautiful atmosphere they create. Drinks were delicious but small for the price.
Everything was just amazing. The atmosphere and food were the best and such a lovely treat when on vacation in Montana!
Excellent - Best restaurant in Big Sky. Fireplace is magical
Had high expectations after seeing this restaurant rated one of the top restaurants in Big Sky and we all were underwhelmed. Two people got the $60 steak and it was very gamey. We tried two other top-rated restaurants and loved them.
Food was amazing, setting was magical, owners and staff were wonderful!! Highly recommend. We’ll be back!
Great food, great service, and beautiful location. We have been at Horn and Cantle many times over the years, and the restaurant is consistently great. The staff is awesome - friendly, knowledgeable, and fun. The food is equally wonderful - though big portions so come hungry! We'll be back!
we ate in the saloon and it was very nice. fire in the fireplace, snow outside, lots of birds and ground squirrels to watch while we ate and had a drink. Food was fast and hot and fresh when it arrived. Saloon is so appropriate as that is what it is complete with all the old west décor. If you prefer, you can eat in the main dining room or on the patio as they have heaters and roll down sides on the patio for comfort in the cold.
Excellent food as always and our server Riley was exceptional. Can't wait to go back.
Delicious and authentic
Great food and service as always.
Excellent service. Tables were safely spaced apart.
The Mushroom Appetizer was the Best!!
not a good value and food was moderate. Some dishes were cold and very little service to check.
I ordered the wagyu strip and had trouble cutting it with a steak knife. It definitely was not wagyu. Choice beef cuts easier than this steak did. Sides were average. I've visited multiple times and all have been great, but this time all of our appetizers and entrees were completely average. I don't mind spending money but for what you pay for, the value is definitely not there with the subpar food.
So good we ate here 2 nights in a row. Lodge experience with great cocktails and wonderful ambience.
Food was good but was hoping it would be great
Excellent. Reservation required due to limited seating
Horn & Cantle never disappoints. We sat on the porch and watched the horses walk by the beautiful property. Birds perching in the surrounding Aspen trees. Wonderful service. Delicious wine and food. We had the vegan tacos and Chablis. Satisfying but not overly heavy -- what we wanted as we hiked after lunch.
Amazing restaurant. Don’t miss it if in Big Sky Montana. Thursday evenings live music.
Service and atmosphere were first class. Food was enjoyed by all and we will visit again.
Fantastic food in a romantic, Montana lodge atmosphere. Service was wonderful and the food was amazing. The chef is not afraid of seasoning the food. It has a French influence w western ingredients. We had the steak tartar that was perfect, the bison striploin and the trout. All were outstanding and they have an excellent wine list. We stayed at the ranch and breakfast was equally delicious. We will be back!
If not for the service experience, I would give Horn & Cantle high marks. The good: Amazing rustic ambiance. Superior regional food. Excellent wine & drink menu. The bad: Our waiter was hopelessly out of sync. He appeared rather confused when we asked specific questions about the menu. The drinks came out sporadically and in the wrong order. The food was poorly paced. He seemed oblivious to anything being wrong.
Eleveated “Western cuisine” characterized by excellent meats done to perfection.
The place is very nice but the food is super expensive for the value. We didn’t have meat but the trout was two very small fillet for 35.00 dollars. If you are vegetarian you have a 30 dollar option quesadilla, that’s crazy ! House wine 14 dollars. I guess if you are a meat eater it might be better but prepare your wallet !
I had pretty high expectations for this restaurant. The food was good but I'm not sure it hit my expectations. The ambience was amazing. The building was beautiful and very unique which my family really enjoyed. My mom ordered the fried chicken while I had the duck. In the future I'd probably pass on the duck and get the chicken. The duck was good but incredibly difficult to cut with a butter knife...
Excellent experience. Best restaurant in Big Sky by far!
A must eat in a big sky. Amazing cocktails. Hearty portions
The service, food, and ambiance were wonderful. I have a gluten allergy, and our waitress, Michelle, was attentive to it and even brought me gluten-free bread.
The trout spread is amazing! I could make a meal of it!
Ryan helped us with drink selections and was warm, friendly and quite knowledgeable. The food was delicious - the portions are huge, so you won’t go away hungry!
The place has a quaint, rustic (yet classy) western charm. Steve at the bar is helpful and welcoming. One of the best dining experiences on the mountain.
Everything was wonderful! Lots of food!!
