Great meal and service!!
Great location in rustic log building. Music a little loud but okay. Food was unique with excellent presentation. Loved the fire pits outside. Met a worker who just came there from West Virginia who was tending the fire pits. Very pleasant convo and he made the night for my wife and I. We recently purchased nearby so this will be back often.
Really disappointed with the new menu, horn and candle is always been my favorite restaurant in Big Sky specifically with a lot of their go to dishes. Hopefully the fall will bring back some of the favorites. Presentation was interesting and a little over the top.
Apparently they have a new Chef or new chefs and quite honestly I don't think the food was nearly as good as it used to be.
Absolutely incredible all around!! Food, drinks, service, and atmosphere were all amazing. It’s the most beautiful setting and stunning food!
The chicken is a must….
Top-notch dining experience! Horn from the host all the way to everyone who brought food and especially our server! You all are doing it right!
Delicious outdoor dining snuggled by the fireplace savoring a new menu from a new chef. We started with duck confit and the most amazing sourdough and warm ash butter, and followed with a shared main - a perfect medium rare ribeye with rosemary for four of us, some perfect cheesy creamy spinach, wildly inventive earth-baked potatoes paired with lamb merguez, washed down with a 2010 California cab. Lovely way to spend an evening in Big Sky. Bravo!
Food was fantastic and the service was incredible!
Great food, great wine, we will be back later this summer!!!
The carrot cake dessert was 2 carrots cooked in sugar. The rib eye was way overpriced.
Service was excellent + cozy, warm ambience. Wine list is also impressive. Feels like a beautiful, rustic slice of Big Sky. Loved seeing several elk families on the drive in.
Food needs a little work. The new menu is ambitious and creative, but the portions were on the small side and several dishes were slightly undercooked. I left feeling somewhat unfulfilled, though I’m admittedly probably not the target gourmet for this spot, being quite content with the $8 3-piece chicken dinner at The Riverhouse.
Excellent. Attentive staff. Salmon with barley risotto fabulous.
This was our second visit and we will come back again. It was a busy Saturday night at H&C. Our server was clearly doing his best with the volume of tables he had but forgot our second round of drinks and the kitchen/expeditor skipped our salads. The server noticed the salad omission later and didn't charge us but we would have rather had the salads. As for the noise, the corner table we had was directly under the speaker and was a little loud for normal conversation but it wasn't a big deal and I'm sure that at the other tables it wasn't an issue. Overall, the place is very nice and has great food in a beautiful location and we will be back again. Had our server had 3-4 tables instead of 6-8 it probably would have been 5 stars across the board and we would have gotten a second or third bottle of wine! Like I said, we will likely be back.
Great food and wonderful ambience.
Disappointed and Unimpressed. Been several times over the years and the quality seemed to be lacking compared to what I remember. I ordered the waygu strip loin. Overcooked and not as expected. Especially for $60. Elk meatballs were just ok. Bouillabaisse was also just ok. Waiter wanted us to place our entire order at once. Apps came out in 3 minutes. Only 5 minutes from finishing apps to dinner being served. Felt very rushed. Very disappointed.
Nice setting, impressive lodge. The food is so-so. Focused on game, but mostly miss. Tartar was too chunky, bison meatloaf too dry, short ribs dry and over done.
Really fun place and delicious food.
Easter with family. Food was good but not great, certainly not worth the $85 per person price tag, not even close.
We went to Horn and Cantle for Easter brunch. Overall, the setting is fabulous and the staff were all friendly. The selection of food for the price ($88) was pretty disappointing. Very few options and had we seen the menu or pricing online (which was not available), we may have chose elsewhere.
I will note the hostess of all people wasn't wearing a mask. Families of 10+ people were seated and no one was wearing a mask to/from the buffet. Again, disappointing in today's climate.
As a Montana / Big Sky local, we support tourism but maintaining a safe environment should be a priority considering everywhere else in Big Sky seems to be following CDC guidelines. It's concerning that a destination catering to out of state residents would be so neglectful.
Easter family dinner. Service was great, warm and welcoming. Food was above average but not great, certainly not worth the $85 per person price tag. I own a food service business and understand value this was supply, demand and resort location prices. Would not do it again.
A very fun experience at H&C! Server, Chris, was very efficient and personable. Food was delicious. Noise level was a little loud, but, didn’t detract from our excellent meal.
Beautiful location - would have loved to walk around more, but cold wind and mud held us back. Beautiful dining room; excellent service. The steak tartar was good, but a bit too much mustard which took away the beef flavor; best Caesar salad ever! Also highly recommend the beet and citrus salad and the fried chicken. The bison shortribs were a big disappointment - much more fat than meat.
Save room for the Cowgirl cookie.
Replaced their chef. Food not the same as past years
Unique setting, and our wait staff was very helpful.
Typically the best spot in big sky, but unfortunately we left underwhelmed. Enjoying a date night for the first time in 6 months (and celebrating a promotion), we made a reservation months in advance. Despite arriving right on time, we waited more than 10 min to be seated which was a harbinger of the rest of the experience. Our server introduced himself and then was not present through the meal or at key times (ie during appetizers we had cocktails and would have liked wine with dinner but couldn’t order until halfway through mains). The beef short rib was very small on a very big plate and didn’t have the typical jus one would expect with a slow cooked meat and the veggies quite salty. Not sure if they were overwhelmed by spring break crowds or what caused the lapse.
Food just average great dining room though,
We love this place🥰
Online they have a brunch menu, but upon arrival they stated they haven’t had brunch for two years.
Good food. Good ambiance, although the dining area is separated into a main room, a bar and an enclosed patio. There was live music in the enclosed patio but unfortunately only the few people seated to dine in there got to enjoy it.
Just LOVED the ambiance here. The service was outstanding. The menu is upscale Montana and everything we had was beautifully prepared and delicious.
I love the Montana atmosphere of this restaurant. Fireplaces, log walls, perfect lighting and decor. The food was delicious! We were with a group and had the elk meatballs, beef tartar, bruschetta, wagu steak, salmon, and fried chicken. The meals were plated beautifully and had full well balanced flavors. We had several signature cocktails that were perfectly crafted and delicious. No one flavor overpowering another. The bartender suggested a local whiskey that my husband enjoyed. I only wish we had room for the desserts! Service was excellent. This was second time back and i will make this a stop on every trip!
Always a special time enjoying a meal here! Great food, service, atmosphere, etc... Look forward to returning.
We have stayed at other guest ranches in Big Sky and had heard a lot about Horn & Cantle and how great the food was. We had lunch and if their is one thing I can tell the kitchen staff is taste your dishes as you prepare them. We had the Prime Rib torta, fried chicken sandwich and a salad. The prime rib wasn’t seasoned at all and dry/tough. The bread for the torta was dry and old. The roasted veggies on the torta were also unseasoned. The fried chicken was also unseasoned, however, the cut of chicken was good as was the bun. The slaw on the fried chicken sandwich was also unseasoned which is strange since it should of at least have had Mayo on it or something. The warm spinach salad had no dressing on it. The drinks, however, we impeccable.
Cool environment. I almost wish it would have been a bit fancier - that's the vibe I got from the pictures. Once inside, you realize you really don't need to dress up. I had an amazing cocktail and I'm a bit of a cocktail snob. Waiter was fantastic. Food was good but I was disappointed they were out of the salmon as I was in the mood for seafood. 'Settled' on the 'elevated' fried chicken, biscuits, etc. which was good but was heavier than what I was in the mood for - there just wasn't alot else that I was interested in. We didn't get dessert. It was a good evening (it's more about the company anyways, and mine was great!) but not the super special / memorable evening I was looking for. Would give them another chance when back in Big Sky.
This is a special place and I always like to take out of town guest to a real Montana feel, plus always yummy food.
Dinner was very good (bison short ribs, elk meatballs, Caesar salad, mushroom bruschetta). We are local, have eaten here many times and we would eat here again. Our only disappointment was there they did not have the salmon the night we were there and one of our party is allergic to scallops which was the substitute and only other seafood on the menu.
However, LMR has a significant issue in that no one answers the phone and no one ever returns calls despite their voice mail recording saying to leave a message. This has been a consistent issue all season. Their manager says they get 300+ calls a day and cannot respond to them all. We understand that employees are very difficult to come by in Big Sky. So if they can't answer the phone or won't return calls, then just change the message should not say "Leave a message and we'll call you back".
We loved sitting out on the porch for lunch. Our waitress was lovely. I think her name was Kelly Ann.
The property is very cool and the atmosphere in the restaurant was perfect for a ski get away. Food was very good and the service was great. Rally added a nice touch to a great ski trip to Montana!
Fabulous!!! Great food. Nice live music. Loved the porch.
