Robata originates from a centuries-old country style cooking by northern Japanese fishermen around a communal hearth (Irori) that serves both as a cooking area and a source of heat, found on the northernmost island of Japan, Hokkaido.
Good food. It was cold in the restaurant. When the front door opened, cold air streamed in. They could use an entryway. We enjoyed our food, though I’d pass on the fried rice if I returned as it was fairly bland. Had a good time, though I wouldn’t rush back.
Great as usual!!
We enjoyed Hopstix. It’s a cool environment and our food was delicious. We would definitely go back again.
Service was slow but it was busy with several large parties so it was probably worse than normal. They messed up on part of our order but corrected it very quickly.
Great drinks, delicious, creative food, and a wonderful atmosphere. Major plus that the wait staff was very accommodating but not over involved. They gave us a free dessert for our wait on food, but we didn’t even notice the wait! Will definitely return and would recommend to friends.
Yummy!!!! Beers and food were awesome!
Hopstix is one of my favorite restaurants. I love their Soto and their kobucha appetizer. Their beers are quite yummy also. It is pretty noisy though. :(
Seems like they added some table so the space was more crowded the the last time we ate there. The noise level seemed a little louder too. Maybe all the extra people in the same number of square feet. Also some loud shouts periodically from the sports watcher were less that ideal. We probably will not go back now😕
Food was fresh, creative and interesting. Service ... as so many other reviews say ... is TERRIBLE!! Why doesn’t the management get a handle on the flow of food, servers, and cooks? Shows a lack of care, knowledge or concern for customer service. No matter how good the food, the service will eventually drive patrons away to other more service-oriented restaurants.
Food and service were on point. Delicious and creative options to choose from. We had a hard time picking what to order and share. We ended up sharing several of the small plates. For the cost, I do wish the small plates contained a bit more food. It was maybe 4 bites tops, which is a tad too small for sharing. Sushi was rolled horribly...so be picky on if you want to try sushi here. The flavor was fine though. We will definitely be back. Want to order full dinners next time as so many of the dishes sounded wonderful. Beer was better than most brew pubs, so they know what they are doing.
The service was not acceptable. We asked for our food to be delivered all together and it was delivered at random intervals. We had to return one item that had been overlooked and was not edible. The server was nice but overwhelmed and we could not get drinks when we wanted them. We have been to Hopstix many times and this last time was not the experience we expected. We were disappointed in the experience.
Not your typical brewpub, shying away from the typical hot wings and standard bar fare. We shared many small plates, sushi and items from the grill along with some of their delicious beers. Really fun date night!
We had a great dining experience at Hopstix. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. We will be back!
Great variety of food with excellent presentation. Beer selection great! Never disappointed!!!
Hopstix is a great neighborhood restaurant. The food and service are always good and it has an excellent beer selection and bar program.
Idunno what USA Today was going crazy for. Moderately good food, nothing special. Sour beer was good. At least there's a nice patio for when weather is good... but picnic tables, so prepare for sore butt. A lot of the indoor is picnic tables too.
The curry fries and tuna tacos are my two favorite things here so far. Their cocktails are always delicious and my friends are big fans of their beer. It’s a great go to for my friends and me.
Food was delicious and our server was great. She let me have a taste of the beer before ordering to be sure I liked it first.
food and craft beers were great. the service was a little slow but not too bad
Great place. 2nd visit was as good as first. Great service at bar and when seated. The staff is always smiling. Good food and drinks. Wish I lived closer...but will definitely visit often.
Hopstix Burger was delicious. Robata Grilled Octopus was tender. Service was okay.
First time here...met up with some friends. Nice range of menu choices, friendly service, and pleasant surroundings. Thursday is fresh tuna day and they had some really nice specials.
I LOVE this place so much! Hands down the freshest ingredients around Chamblee and Brookhaven. The service is always on point! Thank you Hopstix! Keep being 💯! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Staff was personable; food was amazing. The Tuna Salad is not a "small" plate, it can be shared or be an entree for sure. It is delicious. I will be going back!
Recently dining at Hopstix, I found the staff unusually patient, accommodating, and friendly. The food and drinks were very good.
We always love Hopstix. However, they've made some changes to their presentations. Unfortunately, their Shrimp Sake Pizza is completely different and I don't like it anymore. :(
We’ve been to Hopstix several times and it’s always great. This time was even better though! Among other items, we had the grilled duck breast along with the nightly special sushi (blue fin tuna) and both were incredible! Even the next day, we were still talking about how delicious the duck breast was. Can’t wait to go back!
The beers on offer at Hopstix are good to great (truly great is the coffee stout!) and the cocktails are very good. However, the food is fair to awful. Well, the one person in our party who ordered the burger said it was one of the best he'd ever had, and the curry fries were really good. The tuna salad (listed on the small plate side) was MASSIVE with too little seared tuna in it. And, every single fish or seafood dish we ordered tasted "fishy" and not in a good way. Three of us could not eat our meals, they tasted so off-putting, and one of them had only one bite. The server was nice enough to bring him a burger to replace his lobster fried rice, but it took so long we had to have it brought in a to-go bag as we'd been there for over 90 minutes as it was. They bill themselves as a Japanese restaurant but the flavors were more Korean. That's not a problem, typically, except this was our patriarch's 90th birthday celebration and she's Japanese. Based on the website and the menu, we were expecting a Japanese meal. Too bad.
So, ultimately, I'd recommend coming here for the drinks.
We asked to be moved to an outdoor table when one opened up amd they said they would do it but did not. Food did not arrive in a timely manner...first guest was served and was finished eating when the second person's food arrived. Same with third and fourth guest. They said that is how it is because they dont use heat lamps!!! Kitchen needs to learn some timing...especially annoying since we spent nearly $200.
The burger, fries, & beer was DELICIOUS! I was surprisingly pleased with the entire meal and experience. A lovely ambiance, perfect for a group of old friends to catch up in and have drinks. This was my second time here and both times were equally great. Love the fusion of Indonesian influence + Southern elegance. Well done, classy, and affordable! What's not to love?
Food was just "okay" and overpriced in our opinion. Service was good, restaurant is loud.
Happy hostess, great food excellent craft bees and a great concept.
The service was pretty good; our waitress explained the menu and answered all of our questions. I started with three oysters raw with special toppings. Very delicious. Followed with grilled lamb, duck breast, and octopus. All these were fantastic. My main meal was the sashimi salad. It was also delicious. The meal was well paced and having separate checks was no problem. Will definitely be returning!
Ok food, good beer. Service was severely lacking. Multiple items delivered in error, or never arrived at all, several that arrived when we were leaving. Wait staffed seemed put out that we were there. Had called ahead to confirm we could bring an outside cake for a celebration, they said it would be no problem. Got chastised by manager in from of the person we were honoring with the celebration because outside food wasn’t allowed. They were going to charge a $20 fee until I made it clear the person answering the phone the day before has assured me it wouldn’t be a problem.
We work close by and frequent Hopstix for work occasions and celebrations, have never had a stellar experience. We won’t be returning.
We have been here many times and this was the first disappointing experience. The food was great as usual and it is a very good value. The problem was the service. Not so much the wait person as the pace of delivering food to the table. We ordered everything immediately. The chopped salads (very good) and the Krakatoa (excellent) came fairly quickly. However there was then a 45 minute lull before the king crab rice (very good) and the various ribalto dishes (chicken, salmon, pork belly, ribs, tenderloin - all excellent) were served. I spoke to the server and she said they were under staffed for a Saturday. We will go back but the pace has to improve or it will be the last time.
Great Food and Good Cocktails. The Burger here is soooo Good
At first service was great, but we ordered another dish it took forever to arrive. I think our waiter forgot because, as he said, we are very busy now. Tip was not our usual 20+%. Will go again even earlier.
The service was beyond amazing, our waiter Kevin accommodated us on everything that we requested. Also they were really nice with our written request on writing a note of encouragement for our dear friend. Also, we were greeted with such joy which made the whole experience enjoyable.
Now onto the food, it was definitely amazing the taste and everything was great. And the drinks were amazing. We ordered the dumpling salad to share which was a pretty good portion for two people, everything was very flavorful. The 3-ways oysters were amazing as well however it was a little bit too salty because of the sauce they put on but it was definitely good for what it’s worth. Our main meal was the king crab fried rice and miso ramen. Both were tasteful and of course I had to ask for some siracha on my rice to make it more flavorful. Everything was perfect.
Highly recommend the drink “I’m on a boat” if you like citrus flavor. I had the D.A.M (Dark Asian Magic) it was definitely a bit of a kick to it due to all the spices but it was still great.
And finally the dessert, I am a big fan of tiramisu and let me tell you they honestly have the best one I’ve taste by far. The portion was definitely good enough for me.
Overall, the experience was amazing and I’ll definitely come back again.
Thoughtful, innovative men. with a responsive, pleasant staff - delivering a delightful experience.
Love love love this place but hit it at a busy Friday night so service was a little slower than usual. The food however, is fantastic, seemingly both familiar and exotic. Can get anything from tasty bites to a hearty meal. And definitely do a sampler of their beer! Highly recommend!
