Great food - very creative and tasty. Wait staff was great but seemed a bit overwhelmed. Understaffed? Long delay between appetizer and entree. No time to eat our dessert (going to a show), but waiter was more than happy to box it up for us. Much appreciated.
We recently ate at HopCity and selected options from the dining month menu. My husband ordered the Scotch eggs and I ordered the shredded salad for the first course. They were quite good. My husband ordered the lamb burger. Although he ordered it medium rare, it came medium to well done. I ordered the crab pot pie. The filling was good, although a bit salty, but the crust was tough and difficult to eat. The service was slow. The food sat on the counter for a time before it was served. The desserts were sweet but not flavorful. We will not return.
We chose this spot for my wife's birthday as part of Portland Dining Month. However, at first we were not a huge fan of the ambience/layout due to the "open concept" style; no walls, you could see into a small grocery market, a strange open area seating room, etc.
We felt quite silly when we realised this restaurant was part of the Hilton Hotel! It all made sense after that. So while the ambience was not quite what we were expecting, it definitely was not a huge negative once we figured out *why*.
Food was delicious, service was fantastic, and it was a pleasant experience all round.
Grate bartender !
Restaurant in the lobby of the Hilton..... it was just OK. I was expecting a bit more for the Hilton. Service was good but food was mediocre.
The food was delicious. The crab pot pie needed to be tried and it was worth the risk. The atmosphere was energetic and it was just the thing to start our night and continue to the theatre.
Because of March dine out month we chose Hop City because of their beer list and the interesting menu. Our server Laramie was very friendly and as attentive as he could be considering the number of tables he was serving. The menu was tasty, especially the crab pot pie. But there is no ambience to the location and some of this is because of its location at the entrance to the hotel. We generally avoid hotel locations and this was confirmed.
Great server. Food was ok.
the location is the important point.
the only concern is the limited menu. more selections are needed
The food was surprisingly good - have to admit our expectations weren't that high. The mushroom soup and shaved salad were both excellent. Fish and chips were pretty good too. Garlic parmesan fries were an unusual twist, maybe a better match for a burger than the fish, but tasty all the same.
The food was good and the service was excellent. The sound level was a bit more than the number of people in the restaurant suggested, iIt appeared there was a banquet room nearby or above that was contributing most of the noise. Excellent place if you like to people watch, the dining room is open to the lobby of the hotel so you can see everyone as they move around but If you're hoping to catch the game, sit at the bar or choose another venue.
Great place to eat. Great energy. Fantastic Staff. Prompt service. Perfect for a pre-theatre nosh.
I am vegetarian and although most of the dishes had meat in them, the server was awesome and recommended the quinoa/black bean burger as a substitute and the dish was amazing! Also, the mimosas were delicious! Best brunch I’ve had in awhile!
Went pretheater, fast and friendly service and good menu items and out in plenty of time
I have a horrible back and found the seating extremely comfortable. I also liked that I was at a table of 6 and everyone could hear each other. Our waitress was courteous and very accommodating. I liked it that they had vegan dishes and were flexible in what we ordered. Everyone said they liked their food. I would go back.
Chicken in the Chicken and Waffles was literally raw in the middle. Luckily the child eating it noticed and told us. Server brought out two meals and then we waited a while for the third. Server must have taken a break or ended his shift but didn't tell us. Another nice server brought the bill saying the Chicken dish had been taken off the bill. However the bill was so confusing with the way they took the meal off it looked like it was still on the bill. They finally fixed it. Other meals were good and coffee was excellent. Hostess was truly the best part of the experience. She was awesome.
Wanted to try Hop City for awhile and decided the night we were going to a show was a good time to do so. Food was excellent, beer selection was decent and the service was pretty good at the start. After the restaurant got pretty crowded, we had a lot of trouble getting our bill (or another drink if we had wanted one). Overall, I'd still come back because the food was excellent.
Took a work group of 14 people to HopCity Tavern on a Wednesday night. They were able to easily accommodate us (reservation made one day in advance) and the service and food were good.
Our server was very pleasant, however the rest of the dining experience was lacking. We waited to be seated for 5 minutes at the host/ess stand for someone to appear, and then were told to sit where ever we'd like. The food was not tasty in the least.
Thanksgiving is a poor time to evaluate, but it was very noisy with kids running around. Beer choices were limited for Portland but the service and food were very good as was the value for the location.
I had the vegan black bean burger w/crushed avacado. It was luke warm. My friend commented that the soup was good but she liked it hotter, it was luke warm. Sweet potato fries tasted like the frozen kind you get anywhere. nothing much good.
I had the lamb burger and parmeasian fries. Delicious.
Great location for pre or post theater. Good menu. Terrific, friendly staff and service. Could get a little hectic when a conference session dismisses, or when a tour arrives but generally fine.
Hop City has a good variety of food choices and beers. Food is served promptly, well-prepared and tasty. There is a lot of noise and activity as the restaurant area is adjacent to a very busy lobby. Servers are quite busy, but the food arrives hot.
Excellent, friendly staff. Had the Marguerita flatbread with the suggested dark ale, a great combination. More vegan entrees would be nice.
I live near this area but hadn't been here before. It was a convenient location to dine before attending the show at Arlene Schnitzer Music Hall. Not exactly a romantic environment but pleasant enough. The server was friendly and attentive. Food was good.
If you are a guest at the Hilton, which houses the restaurant, it is going to be a pretty good bet for convenience and for a good meal. The proclamation that they use locally sourced ingredients was a primary factor in my choice to try them.
We had a great date night with awesome food before a show. The salmon was fantastic!
The service was fine, although there was no one available to check us in for about 15 minutes. The food was fine too, but nothing special. I had the deviled eggs, which would have been better without the crumbled potato chips because they just gave me the sensation of shell in the egg salad. The bacon in the deviled eggs was a nice touch but it was so hard - not crispy - that I was left with nothing but chewy hard bacon in my mouth. The BLT was tasty but each mouthful produced more of an olive oil taste than anything else. It had been a long travel
Day for us so we asked to split and they did that without question and proactively split it in the plate and gave us each the fries if our choice. A lot of positives in our experience, including our server, but a few areas needing improvement.
Food was okay, other than the ones we tried to order, and they were out of. And, everyone ordered Basil Lemonade, which they were also out of. Not good to have key items on menu not available.
We sat at the bar and had a couple drinks and some appetizers. It was all great!
Horribly noisy, amateurish, overfamiliar service, food mediocre to poor (dry meatloaf, sweet sauce on brussels sprouts), but the sweet-potato fries were good. I would never go back.
Service and food were good but the prices on beer and wine we're unreasonable. $18 for a glass of chablie and $7.50 for a pint of beer.
Went there for a work lunch. Food and service were great. A bit pricey, but it's in the Hilton so I suppose it's to be expected. Also, Matt from the coffee shop is the man!
In the lobby of the Hilton hotel, this is a great place to eat and people watch. Open late, I recommend the crab pot pie for a delicious take on a favorite comfort food.
We enjoyed this relaxed atmosphere with friends!
This place has been improving steadily. Nothing fancy, but the food is better than decent, and the service is friendly. A good option for something casual while downtown.
Our server was SO friendly and helpful...she was a complete joy..wish she could train others in the service industry. Great stop before our concert. Thank you!
I called to let them know we would be late and the person answering the phone did not seem to care and never told the hostess so when we got there our reservation had actually been canceled. There was still room for us however and the hostess was wonderful. The server we had to start with started out wonderful and then she disappeared without a trace. This left us baffled and confused and having to scramble to get attention from any staff we could to attend to us. The food however was very good. It was very healthy and was made quickly and served at the perfect temperature. There was good food available for kids and restricted diets such as GF, SF, EF, etc. However with the kids meal we were not told it came with a drink included in the price and when we noticed this is when the server had disappeared and we had to flag another staff person to obtain the drink, the check, the boxes to go, pay the check.
You could definitely feel like you were in the lobby of a hotel. Between the guy on the computer station and the reception desk full of hotel goers. The food was great and the waiters were nice. The drinks were overpriced and not good! Super loud group of girls there.
Staff was friendly and courteous. Decor is airy and open as would be expected for a hotel restaurant such as this. Put simply, the food does not rate. The menu needs to be thrown out and start from scratch. Flavourless and bland, nothing at all remarkable about all three of out meals. Try again.
