   As a solo traveler I always appreciate a little conversation while interacting with the waitstaff. I was very excited about coming here and booked way in advance. Arriving I was seated at a little table under the stairs- out of the way. I thought it was cozy at first but then nobody noticed me there until two other tables were seated. Then the waiter came and chatted at length with both tables- got their drinks and only then came to my table. I ordered a beer and some water and then never saw the waiter again. A different young guy brought the beer awhile later. I never go the water- and then a different waiter came by the other tables and introduced himself- I assume telling them he was taking over the station. He did not speak to me. Eventually came to take my order. All he said was what would you like. And ok. Took the menu and disappeared until he brought the food out. I was never checked on, spoken to, never asked if I would like another beer. Nothing. It made me feel in the way- unwanted. So I flagged the waiter down and said I wanted my food and a dessert to go. I didn’t want to even finish my food or spend one more second there. He said- I don’t know if we have to go boxes. As he’s taking my plate. I grabbed the barely touched dinner back and said maybe he should check in that before taking the food away. Anyhow- he came back- they did have boxes and he took the food. No talking no concern - still. I paid and left without tipping for the first time in my life. I get that a single middle aged woman is of no interest to these young guys. But I over tip - and all I wanted was a normal friendly dining experience. The couples and younger people seemed to have a good time. And this place has a good rep. The food tasted good. I don’t understand why they were so rude to me. But it did negatively impact my first night in Inverness A trip I’ve worked my entire life to afford. All my other dining experiences have been excellent- so?! Idk.

   Hootenanny was a short walk across the bridge and was well worth the walk. The bar had a great atmosphere and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The Smoked Salmon and the Steak and Ale pie were both delicious. We enjoyed a Red ale and a Blonde larger. Highly recommend the Hootananny for a meal, drinks and music.

   We were really excited to eat here and experience both the dinner and hear the music. We made reservations as suggested. We arrived promptly, were seated promptly and then forgotten. We went and got our drinks at the bar and the waiter served everyone around us, would not make eye contact and completely ignored us. After 30 full minutes of this, my friend went to the front and asked the doorman to put in our order. Order arrived and was placed on table by someone else...we were never checked on by the waiter. Eventually we flagged him down....and asked for dessert...and he said...."I guess if you order it right now." We would never go back. Food was just ok. Drinks were fine and cheap. Music was good. Service stunk.

    Liked the vibe on this place. Our waiter burned around like the Energise Bunny. He was informative and very humorous. A couple more vegetarian options on the menu would add to appeal.

    They honored my reservation on time . When wasn't sure what beer to drink , they gave suggestions. The suggestion was a great choice . I would highly recommend the restaurant.

    I went there on a recommendation. I had a decent table, my first waiter must’ve been new he had no idea what he was doing. My second waiter was nice and helpful and the third also. However none of the menu was explained to me, I was looking for whiskey recommendations, got none, and the food was OK. I was not checked on at all. I even had a reservation, which didn’t seem to matter.

    A must visit for everybody who loves great food, Scottish Highland atmosphere and original music. Among the freshest tasting salmon I have ever eaten. The band that night was incredibly talented. A very memorable part of our vacation. I know we will be back, and I can't wait.

    Booked here on recommendations from others and wasn't disappointed. The staff were all very friendly. I was greeted at the door and another member of staff came to take my order. I said I wanted a non-peat whisky and they made a recommendation for me. I had the cullen skink for a starter and haggis, neeps and tatties for the main. Both large portions and I struggled to eat it all. Would have loved to have tried a dessert also but I was just too full. The food was really nice. Would definitely return.

    We had reservations for weeks and were really looking forward to our experience but unfortunately got seated upstairs on the little balcony where there are bright lights shining down and it is totally missing the ambiance that is downstairs (where it is dimmer, with candles on each table, and more “pub-like”. However our server Mason was so friendly and offered a good ice cream recommendation down the road! Food was good but nothing extraordinary. Good selection of beers on draft.

    Friendly, very informative staff. Gave great advice on whisky! Marked down as service was bit slow (waited 40 minutes to place food order) When it arrived (I ordered the haggis, wife had Salmon - both were excellent ) Was a bit put out when the American couple who had arrived 20 minutes later than the reserved time on their table (we were in at 7pm, they were due at 7:15. ) ordered after us yet were served before us. Still, enjoyed our evening and would recommend

    We’re on vacation in the UK- the ambiance at Hootenanny was perfect and the food was unexpectedly delicious! Great, fun service and very professional! We’re here for about another week and we’ll be back, for sure. Have dessert! It’s so good😋👍👍👍👍👍!

    Wonderful ambiance! Great beer selection - our waiter made some good suggestions as well. Our family had salmon and steak and all of the entrees were very, very good. Would recommend!

    The steak and ale pie was amazing! It came with potatoes, carrots and broccoli. The flaky crust was perfectly baked. My husband got the steak and ate every bite!

    Amazing pub to eat Scottish dishes, I do recommend the Haggis! There was the most enjoyable Scottish music concert, and they play 7/7, so try it out! ❤
