Hoopes Oakville
WINE DETAILS: "Our flagship wine is, and always has been, the soul of our farm. Crafted from our ten-acre vineyard in the heart of Oakville, planted in 1983, it was previously a fruit source for a number of famous estates until we started winemaking ourselves. The soil is dense in geologic composition, featuring four different types of soil. One, volcanic, is unheard of in the Oakville sub-appellation, with the exception of To Kalon, and is rarely, if ever present, in valley floor vineyards. We harvest this vineyard in fourteen small batches, despite the small size, to ensure the perfect balance of acid, flavor, and tannins". Tasting Notes: This wine's deep garnet hue invites you to dive into the nose as it opens with soft fruity-floral aromas of lilac and rose petals then moving into red fruits, pencil shavings, honey and plum. The aromas are deceptively delicate and refined with an ethereal quality. The mouth is more concentrated leaning towards ripe, rich black fruits. Juicy blueberry and sweet licorice flavors carry into the mid-palate with an open, spacious and inviting character. Lush, elegant, tannins support a mouthwatering finish with a savory aspect and notes of black tea bringing the wine to a balanced and layered close.

Tasting Notes: Our 2015 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon is a dark, concentrated and brooding wine. Those familiar with our wines will recognize the signature aromas and flavors of our distinct site. Aromas are a study in ripe black fruits, savory herbs, fennel, anisette, graphite and black tea. A refined expression of Oakville, balanced with freshness of citrus oil, resinous cedar and the warmth of vanilla, and plum in the mouth. While initially restrained, a lush sweet entry opens to a dense and weighty mid-palate finishing with the enticing and complex tension of cocoa and espresso with a hint forest floor and rich earth

Tasting Notes: "Our 2014 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon presents with complex and evocative aromas of leather, white tobacco, fennel, anise and earthy cocoa with the freshness of ripe blackberry and coriander seeds. Warm vanilla, honeyed beeswax and plummy cherry compote deepen into a lovely tannin story at once firm and supple. A generous mouth with good activity and tension finishes with a lavender sappiness supported by a rich tactile element of ripe fruit and creamy oak"
Wine Details: "This year Dante's Block is a rare showcase of the best rows of our old-vine vineyard. Because of our new approach to small-batch fermentation - which occurs in fourteen distinct lots within our Oakville vineyard - we can determine which blocks are performing exceptionally well in any given year. Anne and Jennifer both grew up as winemakers in Oakville, despite some detours along the way, and have a special connection with the distinctiveness of our land. We have diverse soil series in this area, which results in significant variation in phenolic ripeness. Small batch picking and fermentation allows us to isolate the very best grape clusters within the vineyard with magnificent particularity. We hand selected the best lots to create this special Cabernet Sauvignon just for our most loyal customers. You will never see this wine released to the public". Tasting Notes: "Dante's is always a celebration of our unique corner of Oakville and the 2015 is no exception. The notoriously tiny vintage has gifted us with a wine replete with a complex nose of candied red fruits, violets and fresh bay laurel. The mouth edges one step deeper with core of rich dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate and clove easing to a generous and balanced finish of sweet tannins and cigar box. Beautiful now and cellar worthy for those capable of delaying gratification"
Wine Details: "With the outstanding 2014 vintage, we couldn't help but to make a wine in honor of our beloved Dante. Anne and Jennifer both grew up as winemakers in Oakville, despite some detours along the way, and have a special connection with the distinctiveness of our old vine vineyard in the Oakville area. Dante was my father's favorite vineyard dog, and was well known for protecting the vineyard and bringing out the best in all of us while farming. When a vintage warrants a special reserve due to exceptional quality, we look to Dante for inspiration to make the best possible Cabernet Sauvignon that we can. Tasting Notes: "It is always fun and rewarding to put together Dante's Block Cabernet as it gives us the opportunity to showcase the particular characters that make the Hoopes home ranch special. This wine has a traditional and focused nose with bright red fruits, dried straw, black pepper and mineral notes of hot stones. A more modern story evolves in the mouth with lovely concentration and ripeness. This is a compact and powerful wine with direct focused energy. It finishes memorably with fruity dark chocolate, savory herbs, blackberry and chewy tannins"

Tasting Notes: Deep and brooding in the glass, there is a mineral tension in the nose that offers blackberry, plum, dusty loam, pencil shavings, marzipan, caramel, and licorice, yielding to delicate top notes of linalool and bay laurel. The fruit and character of Oakville shine through in the mouth. The entry is lush and voluminous with dense, concentrated, cherry pie fruit balanced nicely with sweet tannins. Structurally, it has fantastic mid-palate retention with a generous, tactile sense and presence. Oak tannins are well integrated and support the ripe lush fruit, while the woody notes convey richness and texture. The finish rounds out with peppercorns, black tea, and espresso. Dense, dark fruit fades gradually with graceful length
Hoopes Napa Valley
Wine Details: "Made with the same care and thoughtfulness of our single vineyard series, the Hoopes Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of fruit from a rich variety of sites. The synthesis of these vineyards, which represent the complex tapestry of Napa terroir, results in sublime balance, intense aromas and luscious textures that bring the diverse valley into harmony in a glass. Born out of curiosity, this Cabernet Sauvignon has matured into a stunning wine, which over delivers in intensity and richness. We are proud of this beautiful example of what the Napa Valley can do" . Tasting Notes: "The notoriously minuscule yields in 2015 brought one of the earliest harvests on record in the Napa Valley. This vintage is marked by exuberant fruit and ripe lush tannins. In fact, we aged our 2015 a bit longer in barrel to bring the exuberant fruit into balance and with the lush tannins and broaden the midpalate and overall mouthfeel. In the glass, warm enveloping aromas of beeswax, powdery milk chocolate and ripe red cherries are layered with dark plum and baking spices. Fruit forward with a smooth attack, flavors of strawberry jam yield to a mouthwatering and seamless mouth with a huge amount of length full of red fruit, powdery oak, creamy milk chocolate and pleasing tension"
Hoopes Merlot and Syrah
Wine Details: "This classic grape is happiest grown in slightly cooler regions and heavier soils. That makes Howell Mountain the ideal location for growing Merlot. Our winemaker, Anne Vawter, selected the Las Posadas vineyard because of its ideal soil composition, namely volcanic, and its proximity to some of the mountain's most famous producers. Farmed by a good friend, this site has amazing character and balance. We are very excited to share this discovery with you". Tasting Notes: "First to the nose are notes of ripe purply-blue fruits like huckleberry and blueberry along with anisette, violet and the freshness of lemony pine. Complex and powerful, yet pretty and feminine, the nose rounds out with the sweet and delicate characters of raspberry candy and honeyed amber. On the palate, there is jammy concentrated raspberry fruit with a dusty, almost lavender quality that speaks to the Howell Mountain roots. Much of the weight sits at the center of the mouth with a nice tactile element of cacao nibs edging to dark chocolate at the back. Black brambly fruit is balanced with vanillin, light caramel, and creamy notes from well-integrated, custom barrels. The finish is graceful, pure and an absolute pleasure to taste. There is excellent persistence in the mouth with a lengthy finish of sweet tannin and dark chocolate coupled with an uplifting purity of fruit. This plush, smooth mouth ends gently with a hint of clove and resinous allspice"

Tasting Notes: "This wine is an absolute joy and a worthy example of the seductiveness of Mountain Merlot. Aromatically complex and enticing with fresh floral notes coupled with a sweet bay herbal dryness, powdery spun sugar, beeswax and blackberry. Flavors in the mouth support the promise of the vivid nose with ripe Bing cherries, vanillin, violet hard candy, and a delicate lilac powdery quality reminiscent of the fluffy volcanic soils of the site. Sweet tannins surround a firm mid palate and caramel notes smooth concentrated but well integrated tannins with the soft creaminess of milk chocolate. Powerful and feminine, the generous mouth ends with an appetizing and persistent finish"

Rich, dark notes of cocoa and espresso unfold to sappy bayberry, fresh lavender, blackberry, carnations, and candied violets. The lush and generous palate gives way to ripe, sweet, tannins and flavors of black cherry and dark chocolate. The mouthwatering finish brings balance to the intensity and energy of this lovely mountain fruit, departing gracefully with warm vanilla, milk chocolate and toasty biscuit"
Wine Details: "Sloped like a majestic crater, our Syrah vineyard is located in the foothills of the Mayacamas. Despite the small size, the vineyard is ripe with diversity in terms of soil, orientation, drainage, sun exposure and elevation. The lean soils of this warm and uniquely exposed "bowl" site yield clusters in below average size, resulting in character and richness. The diminutive berries permit a rare and perfect ripening year over year. Our Winemaker has been working with this fruit since the 2007 vintage. We wanted to round out our beautiful Bordeaux assortment of wines with this classic Rhône varietal, so when a little fruit became available, we knew we had to have it!" Tasting Notes: "The 2017 Sophie's is a beauty. It displays gorgeous aromatics of ripe black cherry, currant, strawberry and iris along with some soft and creamy notes of Madagascar vanilla, nutmeg and cocoa. These aromatics carry through to a medium-bodied, expansive Syrah that is overall pure, elegant, and balanced. The velvety smooth texture and fine tannins are notable here, supporting a flavorful, clean midpalate of black cherry and a quiet complexity. There is a graceful fading transition to the finish with a lovely tactile presence and a sense of an umami quality ending with seductive dark chocolate and cherries. Drinking wonderfully now, it benefits from a two-hour decant, and should continue to shine for 5-7 years or longer"
Wine Details: "Although this is just our second bottling from this magnificent Oak Knoll vineyard, our Winemaker has been working with the fruit since the 2007 vintage. The lean soils of this warm and uniquely exposed "bowl" site yield clusters in below average size, resulting in character and richness. The diminutive berries permit a rare and perfect ripening year over year. We wanted to round out our beautiful Bordeaux assortment of wines with this classic Rhône varietal, so when the fruit became available, we knew we had to have it!" Tasting Notes: "This is a wine with a lot to say. Varietally correct and reminiscent its Southern Rhone forebearers, Sophie's sits inky purple in the glass. Powerful, feminine and complex you are met with pretty nose of raspberry, ether, orange oil, black cherry and a hint of olive tapenade. Warmer flavors broaden in the mouth ranging from sweet medium roast coffee and baking spices to a super-long finish of chewy tannins, sticky blackberry jam and fresh cracked green peppercorns"

Tasting Notes: "Our Syrah sits inky purple in the glass and opens with complex and weighty aromas of ripe raspberries, cardamom, fresh cracked black peppercorns and wet stone. This wine is both elegant and bold. Co-fermentation with Viognier brings precision and juiciness along with notes of powdery violet candy, blackberry and citrus oil to complement the fat meatiness of the Syrah. In the mouth, a gentle and broad attack gives way to black cherry and fresh prune, generous mid palate retention and a soft gliding finish that resolves with pleasing notes of toasted oak"
Hoopes Sauvignon Blanc
Wine Details: "Gardenias are as pretty as they are fragrant and I chose one for the label in honor of my grandmother as this was her favorite flower. She couldn't resist the charm of those fluffy, creamy white blossoms nestled against a rich green base of sturdy leaves and planted many varieties in her flower garden. I have lovely childhood memories of her always smelling like them, intensely warm and sweet, the epitome of a long, dreamy summer. I think it was her perfume as well as the cut flowers she would bring into her house once blooming season started. I know she would have been so proud to see how far our little family winery has come and this is my way of making her forever part of it". Tasting Notes: "Delicate aromas of sweet melon, lychee, Meyer lemon, and vanilla laden whipped cream fill the nose of this elegant wine. Yellow peach, effusive honeysuckle and a hint of minerality round on the nose. On the palate, the wine has a fresh, clean and crisp attack with citrus flavors leading the charge. This beautiful freshness sits in a bed of rich texture provided by our "sur-lie" aging. The wine has a dynamic profile, finishing with a feeling that captures sunshine in a bottle"

Tasting Notes: "This wine is a rare find with Sauvignon Blanc comprising only 4% of vines planted in the Coombsville sub-appellation. Inviting even as it sits in the glass: clear, pale straw and brilliant. Lovely fresh floral, citrus and pleasing herbal aroma of chervil hint at what is to come. Refreshing and savory in the mouth the energetic lemon, white grapefruit and heady white peach flavors are contained and broadened in the mid-palate as the delicate suggestion of powdery soft oak taps the brakes reminding us to slow down and savor this delicate and complex wine"

Tasting Notes: "2016 was another low yield, early vintage with wonderful concentration of bright, fresh fruit flavor and full of richness and body, making our inaugural Sauvignon Blanc a stunner from stem to stern. The lovely pale-straw color invites with aromas of honeysuckle, tuberose, juicy melon and key lime. We uniquely ferment in small stainless steel barrels and highly allocated French oak barrels. The two-pronged fermentation helps create balance in the wine and enhance the full flavor of the two distinct clones. The neutral oak reinforces the roundness, smooths the edges, and builds the mid-palate without compromising the fresh character we look for in Sauvignon Blanc"
Hoopes Chardonnay
Wine Details: "Because many of our Hoopes fans love Chardonnay too, we set out to produce a wine that would complement our vision of Cabernet Sauvignon: a wine that blends our old-world approach to production and farming, with a true sense of Napa terroir. Although we have Chardonnay vineyards in Yountville, Anne and Jennifer felt that some of the most interesting terroir for Chardonnay comes from Carneros, and they had a vineyard in mind. Jen has been working with Genny's Vineyard for several vintages, and believes it is one of the most exceptional vineyards that she has worked with. Genny's Vineyard has been farmed by a local family for decades, and is named after the family's maternal grandmother. Carneros is a very difficult area to farm, but provides some interesting characteristics in the area terroir. It is a cooler area, with maritime influences from the San Pablo Bay, so it is windy with thin soils. The vineyard is therefore very low yield, with small berry size and slow grape development. These tough farming conditions nevertheless build distinctive character". Tasting Notes: "A delight to behold with it's pretty golden hue and beautiful bright clarity, this wine introduces itself with sweet lemon blossom and creamy biscotti. The Carneros roots of this wine show up in full force here with classic tropical fruit flavors of ripe pineapple and hints of guava blooming in the mouth. This wine has a full, rich profile and as it moves through the palate there is a touch of pistachio and creamy vanilla. Approaching the finish, the richness and complexity of the nose and mouth continue, with the wine concluding gracefully with the flavors of warm butterscotch and a whisper of minerality surrounding a round, lush and weighty finish"

Present but delicate oak, sweet & creamy, with a nice volume of fruit in the mouth, dried pineapple, straw flowers, cardamom, ripe pear and sweet gala apple. Full bodied and rich gathering nicely to a clean, persistent and slightly tactile finish. Equally suited to enjoying on its own or with richer fare"

Hoopes Rose
Wine Details: "Rosé is a beautiful wine and I can often be found with a chilled glass of it in my hand taking in the beauty of our vineyards. We wanted our rosé to find inspiration in our flagship wines, and to emphasize Napa's most special grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, so we decided to make a rosé primarily from our Cabernet Sauvignon production. During fermentation of our red wines, about 10% of the juice was bled off, in the traditional Saignée method, making this rosé speak as closely as possible to our legendary home vineyard. Just like I'm Spencer's scion, this rosé is my pet project!" Tasting Notes: "This pretty pink wine comes to the table with substance and character but is still easy to sip. It has bright aromas of sun-ripened strawberry, guava and just a hint of herbs de Provence. The thread of fresh fruit follows into the mouth along with flavors of cranberry and watermelon. The finish is at once crisp and juicy with good length"

Another low yield, early vintage with wonderful concentration of bright, fresh fruit flavor and full of richness and body. Truly a snapshot of the vintage, our Rose comes from the saignèe juice from all our red varietals harvested giving a delightfully rare complexity on the palate". Tasting Notes: A scrumptious, fresh wine with sweet aromas of rose petal, crème soda, red cherry and ruby red grapefruit. The volume of aroma translates beautifully on the palate with the juiciness of ripe strawberries followed by the fruity quality of grapefruit minus the bitterness. An active and present mouth brings a bit of seriousness to this fresh, bright wine

This place is aptly named- an oasis! It's a unique and tranquil environment in Napa. Not only can you taste some yummy wine, but you are surrounded by beautiful vineyards, gardens and animals as part of the property's sanctuary.
There is a fee ($50/person/hr) that can be used towards wine to go or wine to drink there. You have the option to purchase mini bottles of wine (3 of your choice for $95) or full bottles (ranging from $35-125). Things could definitely add up quickly if you stay for a while, but it’s a nice spot to check out for a bit.
Their charges per hour are outrageous. $50 per hour per person + $15 per person for outside food ?!
We tried to explain that for 8 adults and 3 kids, it doesn’t make any sense to spend $800 for 2 hours.
There were no other people there but us, and they still preferred that we leave rather than staying and buying wine.
The place is lovely, I wish it worked out.
Great ambiance, what could be better than having animals at your side while you're sipping wine?
All around 10/10! Great place to stop by and enjoy some wine!
Hoopes Vineyard is not a restaurant (Why is it on OpenTable?) and doesn’t serve any food. You can bring your own food. They don’t offer wine tasting by flights only bottle service. Their wines average between $38 to $125. The Oakville cab is $75 and Dante $125. Their best Cabernet, the Dante is a light earthy cab very little structure to it. Their 2020 smoke tainted grapes are being used to make liquor.
The price to sit in their garden is $60/hr per person. Lots of farm animals as part of their sanctuary but no petting and feeding of the animals are not allowed. Basically for 90min “self tour wine tasting” for two you’ll have to pay $240 worth in wine. If you’re looking for an animal sanctuary with wine bottle service that allows you to bring your own food this is the pace for you. It’s just not a restaurant, wine tasting room or food venue.
We had a WONDERFUL experience!!! It was a beautiful property, great vibes, farm animals, wonderful service/attention from the wine educator. Very kid friendly with the farm animals (goats, pigs, ponies etc!). We definitely hope to be back! Note: They don’t serve any food but allow you to bring your own!
Great wines but they aren’t yet licensed for wine tasting flights. Bottle service only. Great staff. Bucolic setting. I look forward to going back when they have a tasting room.
Very nice place, children friendly and beautiful garden
