Hook and Ladder Manufacturing Company
While looking into Sacramento’s past, we found that the Industrial Revolution was a fundamental time of change in the region. Steam boats pumped up and down the Sacramento River, and the Nation’s first Transcontinental Railroad was nearing completion. This period of bustling commerce and innovation helped lay the foundation of our city. During the year of 1850, a series of fires destroyed much of the city of Sacramento. A volunteer group, “The Mutual Hook and Ladder Company,” assembled to help rebuild and prevent future disasters.
We aim to rejuvenate the historic space at 17th & S streets by celebrating this time of industry and growth. Our goal is to build upon our city commerce and contribute to Sacramento’s future.

Food was amazing and service was top notch. Looking forward to my return visit.
I am giving this place overall 5 stars. Came in on a Sunday afternoon and was able to pick seating - love the heated patio. First time trying the place and I was enjoying it - such a good time I didn’t realize how long our order was taking to come out due to a party of 20 before us. Waitress was super accommodating and brought out a few of their different appetizers to try while we waited. The chickpea fritter is amazing - I honestly couldn’t recommend more. Like nothing you’ve ever had before.
We had the chef’s tasting, and it was phenomenal. Well above my expectactions. Service was great, too.
First, I will say that the food was very good. We were pleased all around with the quality and flavors. The staff were available and attentive. The service did not deliver seamlessly and had some room to be more intuitive. We shared feedback with the restaurant. The general manager was very timely and sincere in his response. We may have caught them early on a night when they hadn't hit their stride. We'll give it anther try in the future. The house-made passion fruit tonic water won over one of the ladies at the table and I enjoyed the peanut butter fudge at the end! The staff believe in the food and sell it well. It was a not an instant Hook, but it may be in the future.
Vee was awesome of course. Her suggestions are always fantastic and she always makes us feel so welcome. This has become one of our solid go to eats on almost every occasion because of the excellent food and excellent service.
Love the food and atmosphere! Will definitely be back!
Really delicious brunch - nice twists on regular brunch items. Will go back.
Great service, though we were there before the evening rush. We had “the good life” dish which was brought out to the table by the chef. Absolutely incredible!
Great menu and wine selection!
Food is SO good!!!
Great food, Chefs selection was excellent and appreciated his visiting with us.
We enjoyed our dinner on the outside back patio. We began with the House Gin and Tonic, which was delicious. The House Special of homemade spaghetti with shrimp and meat sauce was wonderful. It had a “bit of heat” to it, which made the Hook and Ladder experience perfect for an old retired firefighter. Service from front door welcome to dinner is served was excellent. We’d definitely go back.
The service was amazing. The food was delicious. I would recommend to friends and family.
Excellent food and service. Top three favorites restaurants in Sac area.
Fun place, good food!
Wedding week and we had a big crowd. They made a super long table for us. It was great!
Great place to eat amazing food. The special was amazing!!!
The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. The menu items are created with fresh, high quality ingredients that blend perfectly. Our server was friendly and attentive. She made sure our dining experience was top notch. We highly recommend Hook & Ladder and can’t wait to go back.
We called ahead and got a quiet table. Thanks!
Appetizer, drinks and dessert were outstanding.
My entree not so much. The pork shoulder steak had a lot of rubbery gristle, kind of gross. This place is always outstanding, but this one entree was not good.
It was a quaint place. Friendly staff, tasty food. A nice place to stop if you need a bite to eat on your way to an appointment.
Excellent Service, Delicious Food and an all around wonderful experience. Hook and Ladder is one of my favorite Brunch spots. As usual, they did not disappoint.
Cocktails were a great start! Pork belly was the standout appetizer but the charcuterie board at H&K is second to none. My trout with beets was incredible. The evening was wonderful with great service. Correctly paced and staff made suggestions we loved.
One of our favorite places. Always amazing and delicious!
Service was awesome and the chef nailed it. Short rib hash with hollendaise was amazing.
Pleased with the service and food! Highly recommended for any group!
Food and service (and cocktails) were superb. Octopus, burger, trout and pasta were delicious.
Lovely environment and the service was excellent. Food was diverse and something for everyone! We'd be back!
I was pleasantly surprised at the lovely ambiance of Hook and Ladder. It was so cozy, chic and somewhat romantic. The service was terrific, the waitress help steer us in making good choices for food and drinks. And the food did not disappoint whatsoever! It was fresh, so tasty with interesting combinations.
Fun dinner with our family sitting on the patio
The Hook and Ladder has a rustic modern vibe. Low lighting, good service, americana food made this evening a treat for my fiance, her friend and I. The portions were just right. I ordered the porkchop entree which was very tasty. My only complaint is the price for the entree are high. A shared salad, and three entrees cost $102. Yikes.
Excellent food, drinks and service! I’ve never had a bad experience or complaint there. My favorite place to eat in Sacramento!
Some really good dishes.
One of my favorites in Sacramento! Service is always great, food is inventive, healthy, and delicious. The bar is innovative and the drinks pack a punch!!! And it has a neighborhood ambiance...even if you're from out of town.
Loved every aspect of this dinner! Definitely coming back.
Service was just a bit too slow
Good little find in Sacramento while traveling. Ambiance nice and service was friendly. A bit taken back by the automatic gratuity to the kitchen staff on top of leaving a tip to server. I understand getting harder to run a small business these days, but personally, would pay your kitchen staff more. The servers tip would have been 20%, but we reduced it to 18% because of this.
Amazing food and amazing service!! What more could you ask for!? We will definitely be back!
Such a fun night! Fabulous food! Server squeezed the last 2 mins of happy hour to get us discounted first round and was very attentive. Looking forward to a return trip!
