Dexter was a great server and made our experience really meaningful with his recommendations and great service. It’s a “definite must”!
Waited 15 minutes for our table with reservations
This restaurant offered simply the best overall meal and dining experience we have had in the Myrtle Beach area in the 40+ years we have been coming here to vacation. The steak my wife ordered- so well grilled and tender with great flavor; my daughters split the pallela dish and raved about the flavors, and I ordered the red snapper and have never had a better piece of fish in the presentation and flavor. Our server, Roxy, was so thoroughly enjoyable and pleasant. She offered great insight as to the meals, and was very attentive during our meal, We even had one of the managers (Cory) stop by after we paid our bill to check-in, and it was a pleasure to relay the experience we had just had with him. This restaurant is a MUST on any vacationers or locals dining dance card!!!!
Pretty good. Very busy. Great seafood and serbice is excellent
This is not only my favorite Myrtle Beach restaurant, it's one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Always great food and exceptional service
Gem in this neighborhood.
Starting with the good stuff: This restaurant is super cute, lots of parking, friendly staff, honors your reservation time even while busy, service was timely and food came out coursed and last but certainly not the least, MOST of the food was very delicious.
A few disappointments: we ordered half a dozen of oysters and they were all the same kind. I forget which area it came from. Three of the six oysters looked very fresh and good and they were delicious. The other three looked quite unappetizing in color and raw oysters can be dangerous if it's gone bad. (picture provided).
The second dish of disappointment was the 'angry clams pasta'. While the flavor was very balanced and tasty, the issue was the unwanted ingredient: sand (my guess from the poorly washed clams) With every bite and chew there was sand. A big turn off making it difficult to enjoy and finish. Such a shame because the flavor was great.
Our first night in MB did not disappoint! We were early for our reservation but were able to grab 2 seats at the bar. Our server, Amanda, was warm and welcoming and full of suggestions for us. We shared a buratta caprese salad, which was split for us. The tomatoes were ripe and the cheese soft and perfect. My main course was a fish special, cortina, a fish I had never had before. It was served with grits and the best Brussels sprouts I had ever tasted. And, my drink was a muddled strawberry with vodka concoction that was bright, cold and sweet, a perfect way to begin our vacation.
Sadly, we had no room for dessert, but will definitely leave some room on our next visit.
We love this place! We’ve been for brunch several times but this was our first time for dinner. I’m 28 weeks pregnant and we were celebrating our wedding anniversary-right when our food came out I started feeling unwell and we had to leave quickly. The server boxed up our food as quickly as possible and sent us with dessert to go because it was a special occasion, it was so sweet! Once I was feeling better I enjoyed all the food and dessert! Can’t wait to go back and hopefully sit and enjoy the entire meal!
We came to Hook & Barrel after a wedding on the beach. We had a reservation and 2 of our party were late getting there. However it took 15 min for someone to greet us and get us some drinks. Otherwise the food and the environment was great. I'm not a foodie but I do enjoy tasting unique appetizers and dishes. The fig and brie appetizer is one of my favorites and the swordfish was awesome. a couple in the party ordered the surf and turf and really enjoyed that as well. Overall I would recommend Hook & Barrel to my friends and family looking for an upscale place with delicious food.
Excellent service by Alexis
The food was good but not at all worth the price. Service was excellent. When you eat at an upscale restaurant you expect great service such as waiter/waitress attention to your needs, clearing the table for the next course and serving your entree in a timely manner. Hook and Barrel lived up to my expectations of a good meal experience but the cost of the meal did not reflect the overall experience.
Our server was great - very knowledgeable about the restaurant and food.
The she crab soup was delicious. It was more savory than sweet, but it was a nice take on she crab soup. The paella for 2 was tasty, but not worth $40. The variety of meats was interesting except that I wasn't able to distinguish between the chicken and fresh fish (!).
I did have to ask the server twice about lowering the volume of the music. For some reason, only the bass was noticeable. Once the music was down, I was able to enjoy the experience.
Overall, it would be nice to visit again and I would order something else.
Love the food. Our waiter was wonderful. Fast service.
Love the food it was me and my wife had a lovely dinner the Waite was short and the food was wonderful the seafood was very fresh and the service was friendly
Fresh, delicious sustainably-sourced seafood with wonderful staff and an eco-forward mission we love to support. Generous portions of everything including appetizers and desserts. Can't wait to come back.
Hard to get a table of you want it same day, but has the best food and great wait staff!
Good seafood, great wait staff, a bit noisy but that will happen in myrtle beach with the tourists and their noise making vehicles. Besides, we chose to sit outside so that's on us. You will pay for the quality, but if you want that special meal to fill out the trip, this is the place.
EXCELLENT SERVICE AND FOOD. OUR SERVER BERGIT WAS THE BEST. FUN, KNOWLEDGEABLE ADN PERSONABLE. LOVE THE AMBIENCE. WILL DEFINETLY RETURN!
We had a wonderful time. The food was fantastic. I had the scallops and they were probably the best I've ever had. The service wonderful too. Our waiter even brought me out a cake for my birthday. Great place. Will definitely go back.
My family & I found this gem a year ago on our vacation. Since that experience, I’ve been craving it for a year. That’s why we came back to Myrtle Beach. I don’t typically eat seafood but last year the Mahi-mahi was to die for. This year I tried swordfish for the first time. Exquisite! If you come to Myrtle Beach and don’t try this spot, you missed out! Drew was our server and he was great. Dan also checked on us as the place was packed. Make sure to see the croissant shop next door! We’ll be back next year!
Great brunch and Bloody Mary’s Good service and management that cares.
An original - this is one of our go-to restaurants when we visit Myrtle Beach. Their brunch is awesome. Dinner can be hit or miss at times. We ordered the seafood tower and the lobster was a little over cooked. However, the barramundi main course was prepared very well.
Love this place! Food was amazing and service was even better. Our waiter, Christina, made our experience very memorable! Will definitely be back
Excellent service! Thank you for providing an experience that's far away from the typical myrtle bike week craziness.
Hook and Barrel is a great bright super clean restaurant with great servers and the food is terrific.
Excellent service and amazing quality of the food served,
Wonderful evening at Hook and Barrel! Lively atmosphere and great service. We all enjoyed our meals.
Awesome food. Swordfish cooked to perfection, as was steak. Waitress, Erica, was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable about all menu items.
Large open dining area was a little on the loud side, but not enough to discourage talking.
We waited for 10 minutes before anyone came to the table. When our food arrived, my husband did not have silverware. It took the waitress 15 minutes to bring it. I had finished my meal before he got silverware. The waitress did bring a new meal but by then the evening was spoiled. They offered us free dessert that we did not want. They should have comped his meal.
Awesome service! Our server was nice and patient with us being that it was our first time. Raw bar was good, overall clean restaurant with a unique vibe
Between the three of us we had the crab cake starter, oysters Rockefeller, wedge salad, chicken farfalle and lobster tails. All of the food was good if a bit on the small-side for the price (2 crab cakes, six oysters, three romaine leaves, ~6 oz of chicken and supposedly 12 oz of lobster - plus $50 of drinks came to $170+ ($203 with tip)). The wait staff was excellent. We sat in the wine cellar room so it was not as loud as the main restaurant was the last time we ate there. We will go back but we’ll wait until the coffers are refilled.
It took too long for salmon and swordfish. Too long
Noisy with high ceilings. Food excellent, very expensive. Service was OK. They served the wrong food to 3 out of 4. We switched plates ourselves. One came without a topping.
Really surprising restaurant within walking distance of Marriott Grand Dunes. Excellent ambiance with a wide open feel. Nice noise level - easy to carry on a conversation. Food, service and plate presentation were top notch. We’ll be back!
Birthday dinner for my wife. Very nice evening except that we ate outside during bike week—the noise made it difficult to talk at times.
Food and service were excellent!!!! Wine is a little pricey per bottle...they need to have some less expensive wines available. Would definitely recommend it to all.....
My daughter, her 8 month old, her mother in law and I ate at Hook and Barrel for Mother’s Day and the buffet was fantastic. The wait staff was friendly and very attentive. We enjoyed dinner and would definitely come back!
The buffet was not worth the money. $38 per adult. Not much of a selection. Food was cold
Been here many times. Has always been a good experience. VERY disappointing on Mother's Day. Made reservation expecting standard Sunday brunch - great food, reasonable cost. Not on Mother's Day. Apparently they decided that morning to make it a buffet. At $38++ for everyone 13 and older. Absolutely ridiculous to do what is basically a "bait and switch" on Mother's Day. You have a reservation and everyone is excited and ready to go and you show up and get hit with what is essentially double what a normal Sunday would cost and the food was not nearly as good or what people were expecting to eat. Very unprofessional. And to top it off, coffee and sodas were extra. That was just another slap in the face. Compare this to Easter Brunch at Marina Inn Grand Dunes - which was basically $50++ a person but had much better variety, and a pre-printed menu so you could decide if you wanted to go there. Paying for good food and good service should be worth it and should be a choice of patrons. This was simply shady and unprofessional. They've lost a loyal customer. Croissants too - their sister restaurant. Disappointing.
Great food great service
