Food was good and it was cute inside - lots of nice touches like the Caesar bar. However, service was poor. The server didn’t greet us, just came over and asked if we were ready after we had been there for 15 minutes. Didn’t pour water, barely checked on us through the meal.
Very slow service.
Food was not great at all.
Wine very over priced.
I had high hope for this restaurant, however food and service was not up to the standards portrayed by it.
Our server was great, a little on the slower side but I think she was new. She was very kind and attentive to our needs and brought over a lovely dessert for my friends birthday without being asked. The other servers looked a little miserable and unapproachable. The decor was very cute and clean, the food was delicious and my mocha was amazing! I will definitely be back again for brunch!
Went for brunch with a friend, so can only comment on that menu. Everything on it sounded really yummy. Maybe a bit pricey, but pretty standard for a nice brunch scene. Ordered the scrambled egg galette and it was really good. Nice atmosphere. Would recommend for brunch.
We have dined at Honey Salt on multiple occasions since its opening and had great times. Our experience today was truly disappointing.
We had booked reservations for weekend brunch as their online listings showed it was served until 3:00 pm. However, when we arrived, the server said brunch service had ended at 2:30 pm. She said afternoon tea was available, which was 30 minutes earlier than what’s posted online. This was grudgingly accepted since we did not want to leave after being seated and we were hungry.
Although the food was good, the service today was on par with what one would expect at a mall food court. Our server appeared to be new and could have acted more professional. She could not answer our questions about the menu and would reply with confused “ummm”s and “uhhh”s, leaving us unconfident. We noticed the staff had changed dramatically from previous visits and were told most of the Honey Salt servers had been replaced by the now defunct 1886 Chinese Restaurant which would explain the drop in service levels. We did not come to expect this based on previous experiences here and the calibre of restaurant.
We would have to reconsidering returning to this establishment. Hopefully, things will improve since we do not want what happened to 1886 to happen to Honey Salt.
Having worked in the service industry, we understand and try to give the benefit of the doubt. But when multiple things are missed, the Management should be made aware of these opportunities so they may improve the client experience and increase loyalty and repeat business.
This food quality doesn’t represent the restaurant . I have been there 3 times for brunch and tasted 4 different dishes. Taste was very ordinary and low quality chicken and beef.
I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant and cactus, earls will offer much much better food .
I’ve been to Honey Salt for Brunch and dinner. Brunch is definitely better with some healthier options to choose from. The atmosphere is really nice and I like that it’s a larger restaurant. There are definitely better restaurants nearby for the same value though.
Hostesses seemed very unfamiliar with open table reservations - tried to tell me I didn’t have one then when I showed them my phone they lead me to the table in silence.. very strange. Waiter showed me a menu with a price and I chose that item, bill came and it was 50$ more than he showed me. Discussed with waiter and he was extremely rude. Emailed management and over one week later they responded with only an apology and no compensation. Very poor service.
I was very happy with my first visit at Honey and Salt when it first opened. However, my experience this time was very disappointing. The food was not the same as before; the appetizers and main dishes that I ordered were very salty especially the halibut dish.
We don't stray from our usual places much but for my husband's birthday we were going to catch a show downtown and thought we'd try somewhere new. Honey Salt came recommended to us so we thought we'd try it.
We ordered a few items - nothing I'd order again. I was hoping for brighter, fresher flavours but the dishes we ordered didn't deliver. I feel like I should have asked for recommendations - maybe next time.
Our waiter was nice enough but didn't come around much during our meal. Our appetizer plates sat on our table the whole time we are and weren't cleared.
Felt like we didn't get the full experience as it was a quiet room. Might give it another try during brunch or maybe lunch because it looks like the perfect spot for those meals.
Very good food, but not out of this world. The service was nice, but our server seemed very new and was extremely slow. It was lunch and I don't think she had many other tables.
The dungeness crab salad was really Bland! Likely very underseasoned.
The filet steak was tasty but very small portion for the price. Keg is a better value.
We went for a pre-concert dinner and our first impression was that it was a nice place. It’s nicely decorated and comfortable. The menu itself was a bit all over the place. There were good items to choose from but it seems almost like there was no thought into how or why they were out together. The food was ok but not worth what they charge. Our server was nice and attentive so no complaints there. Overall it was ok but wouldn’t head back for a second visit.
We came in on a sunday to celebrate my friend’s birthday, the restaurant was super busy and apparently there weren’t enough waiters/waitress. We waited a long time before we got our water and food. Overall the food were great. However we got quite disappointed as they charged $2/slice if we were to eat our cake in the restaurant. I would say I will come here again for casual dining but not for special occasions.
Restaurant has some kinks to work out. From server who cannot recommend a dish. Presentation of appetizer lacking. Unfriendly food runners. The Salmon was good but Halibut dry but I guess that’s why it gets thrown in chowder. They Gave my dinner away to another table and brought out my wife’s so she ate alone and basically finished her meal before I got mine. You don’t go to a restaurant as a couple to eat one after the other. Much better restaurant choices around.
Environment is good, food is disappointing, won’t recommend
This was my first dinner at Honey Salt; we had lunch here a few times and I prefer lunch over dinner ... it's too noisy in the evening! I find the wine list is too expensive. I wasn't impressed with my meal (I had the tourtiere) but others were.
We took our colleague out for her Birthday lunch, and it was great! the food was delicious, menu is not huge but everyone was happy. We asked for a speedy service since it was our lunch break and we needed to go back to work, so our server (sorry, can't remember the name) was awesome and handled it really well. we didn't feel rushed, but were able to be done within the given time frame. We loved the interior of the restaurant! so cozy and light!
The amount that came on the plate did not correlate with the pricing.
Loved the food, service and atmosphere. We went there before a concert for Happy Hour. The food offered on the Happy Hour menu was plentiful, tasty and the price was right. We will go back. The turkey balls were the best.
Good variety on menu.. convenient location.. easy walk 2 Roger's Arena & BC Stadium; accommodating when we were few min late
The food was better the first time. There were a lack of vegetarian options excluding salads but the place was accommodating and made adjustments to our burgers. The overall service was decent. It was lunch time and most of the servers were just standing around looking a bit sad, which made the place slightly depressing. The hostess that day had very long hair down to her waist. When she seated us to our table, her hair touched the drinking glass. Not very sanitary.
Food took way too long to arrive . More than 30 mins for a group of 3 plus little one. Bacon was burnt. We ordered a 6 dollars juice server charged us 8. Place is very pretty . Mainly girls group or dates. But very loud.
Great space and ambience but still haven’t figured out the slow service - under staffed, several “manager” types in suits that don’t interact with customers or support their busy wait staff.
The food was good. Great atmosphere and setting. But unfortunately, the service was subpar. Our server was unenthusiastic and didn't smile once.
We usually go to Honey Salt for Breakfast/Brunch - this was our first dinner and it was outstanding. We will definitely be back for dinner!
My experience, so as my guests', was largely dependent on the great waiter we had. He served us with attention to details, needs and most importantly his very charming smile. When he talked to us, he even came down to our level in addition to his friendliness and courtesy.
Amazing service. Great food and beautiful location
Decent meal but I would say dim the lights and turn the music up. A little boring.
Amazing amazing experience!! Great food. Amazing service. Great vibe! Got the brisket and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had!
I like the whole experience except they need to sort out the parking issue. No wonder why is quiet coz the parking fee is no redeemable unless you gamble which is not all reason visit the restaurant. It would kill such a nice place
Our server started out very attentive then somehow with maybe 4 tables total he seemed to completely forget about us. Didn’t see him for at least 20 minutes while waiting to order a second drink. We even told him we’d likely be ordering wine when we started with cocktails. We ended up ordering drinks from a manager (after about 45 minutes at the table) whom our server later referred to as “the suit” but the drinks never arrived. When we finally saw our waiter make eye contact with us he found the drinks sitting at the bar waiting to be brought to us. He then told us he was surprised the suit put our drink order through but didn’t trust him to actually bring the drinks to our table. Almost word for word what he said to us. Then as we were now nearly out of time due to concert tickets, we asked him what dessert would be best and he glossed through them indicating how big or little it would be (we asked for something small to be suggested) and when we asked about the honey salt specific dessert he said “ugh, stay away from this one, it’s just some excuse to put honey and salt together for the sake of the name”. WOW. the food was okay but the service completely turned us off. Not likely to go back.
The moment we walked in to the counter to let the host know that we have a reservation we already had a 'why are you even here' vibe. Like honey salt is too boujee for us... the host had a snippy attitide already. Mind you, we were nicely dressed. The lady who brought us to our table was the only nice person in that restaurant. The decor and ambiance was nice... but the service and food was not even up to par. It took them 25 minutes to have our drinks... its a 2 shot jameson that I am pretty sure you just have to pour in a glass and a pre made sangria drink. It was not even busy at the restaurant. Then came the food .. fish and chips were over cooked and the dungeness crab roll and chip were so so.. the chips that came with it was like from a bag of kettle chips. I am not a complainer, I am always empathetic when a server is new and is in training but it looked like our servers first day and was just thrown in. We couldnt even leave fast enough... paying $80 incl tip for 2 entrees and 2 drinks was not worth it. We hsve gone to a lot of restaurants in the city.. hole in the walls to upscale fine dining.. this is literally the worst. The only reason I ate my food is because I am so hungry and it would take forever to have another food made. Never again. Please have some heart and train your team and just dont throw them in.
We really enjoyed Honey Salt, I found it via open table and it lived up to the reviews.
I will recommend Honey Salt to people I know looking for a nice place to eat, particularly if it's before a show.
We'll come back, partly because Nick our server was fantastic!
Thanks Open Table!
Our waitress barely checked up on us and forgot half our order until we waived her down. Coffee is not fresh made so it’s warm not hot. $15 for one waffle is quite expensive, it tasted good but I was still hungry after eating our brunch.
The waiter forgot about our side order of mac and cheese, it was taken off our tab however that wasnt a good experience since all of our friends who had been there before had raved about the mac and cheese and by the time we got it our entree were finished and we were full. We were all finished our cocktails and we had to get the waiter attention to get another round. The venue wasnt that busy so the delay was rather annoying.
First time there. We arrived at happy hour and I didn’t realize it until after we ordered a drink. Our server didn’t mention it?! There were only two other tables occupied in the restaurant and the service was very slow. Can’t imagine when it’s busy. Server was indifferent as was the rest of the staff. The burger was good that was the best part of my experience. Unlikely to recommend or return
Beautiful interiors and a nice place to celebrate a birthday meal!
We made a reservation for 1pm but arrived a little late and were seated very quickly. It wasn’t too busy. Our server was very attentive. We were looking forward to having high tea as I had heard great things but were informed that afternoon tea would not start until 3pm. Nowhere on the menu or website does it’s say that so we were a bit disappointed and ordered brunch instead. Eggs Benedict were decent, nothing out of this world but the potato latkes were really good. Will definitely try to come back for afternoon tea next time.
