Nice atmosphere, modern hipster vibe. Waited over an hour for our food, just to come out wrong. Had to ask multiple times for simple things like our drinks, rest of our meal, condiments. Our server was new but she could really use a lesson in customer service. Overall, would not go back.
I really wanted to like this restaurant but it’s too hard not to find fault when you’ve waited over an hour for food to come out. When we arrived for a 12:30 reservation it wasn’t that busy. After 40 minutes I finally flagged our waiter. He apologized for the kitchen and poured some more coffee. After 60 minutes I flagged a manager. She returned soon after saying it would be another 15 minutes for our food but she would show some love on our bill. What ever happened to the days when managers knew the kitchen was backed up and came to your table with an early apology and a basket of biscuits. I was starving so my Stead Breakfast went down fast. Pretty perfunctory fare but tasty. Liked the lamb bacon. My friends weren’t very excited with the Huevos Rancheros. The manager did comp the beverages and take fifty percent off the bill - but still, so very disappointing!
Such a lovely brunch spot! We ate outside on the upper patio. The service was good, the food was exceptional and I will definitely return.
We sat upstairs outside. Food was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive.
Everything was great with the exception of one of the food items we ordered. The steak and egg meal was drenched in this gravy that over powdered the taste of the meal, because it was everywhere.
I arrived at 12:45 for our 12:45 reservation and was informed that they were cleaning off our table and it would just be a few minutes. As I waited for the other guests to arrive we noticed it was 1:00pm and the host had never come back to check on us and update us about our table. Around 1:05 I inquired and he said the guests seated at our table had paid their check and the restaurant was waiting for them to leave and then they would clean the table and seat us. This was not what I was told when I first arrived. I was under the assumption that our table was ready and needed to be clean and not that people we’re still dining at our table. We were finally seated at 1:20pm, 35 minutes after our reservation. We waited another 5 minutes to receive water. Our drink orders of 1 mimosas and 1 Bloody Mary took forever to come to the table. Our waitress was very accommodating in allowing us to make several substitutions to our food orders but when our spinach omelet and burrito bowl arrived it was subpar. The omelet barely had any cheese in it and the avocado creama accompanying the burrito bowl lacked any flavor. The bowl was small so I ended up splitting a biscuit with another guests. We had bottomless and it took a while for our drinks to be refilled. When the waitress refilled our mimosas with the pitcher, she spilled mimosas on my legs and another guests shirt every time. With so many bottomless brunch places in DC I do not know how Homestead stays in business for brunch with less than stellar food and subpar service. There are hundreds of other restaurants that I could have gone too and I am upset I wasted $35 and my guests’ experience at homestead.
Homestead was wonderful! The service was great and the food was delicious! We went for brunch. Highly recommend!
Fantastic food, exceptional service, and good vibe. The dark chocolate brownie sundae was the only downside of the meal. The burgers and the fries were fantastic. The waiter, Alvin, went above and beyond for us. Highly recommend this local spot!
All the food was very bland. No salt on the fries or anywhere in the BLAT I ordered. Wife asked for aioli and it was so thin that the bread immediately absorbed the sauce so she asked for mayonnaise instead after letting our server know.
I thought that I confirmed my reservation for Sunday brunch by pressing the red button. It was cancelled. The pretty young lady who greeted was very concerned and handled this with kindness and professionalism. We were seated and had a very delicious brunch. The shrimp and grits were well done. Hubby loved his brunch burger. Customer service was on point. I really appreciate the follow up👏🏼👏🏼
Fantastic meal and service.
Great spot for brunch!
The French Toast was amazing! The good overall was good but 😍the French toast. The ambiance was really nice, I would definitely be back!
Good food and drink in an inviting casual setting, whether you feel like bar atmosphere, or table seating inside or out.
Service was underwhelming. First time at Homestead and as a former server I understand that things get busy and some things are out of your control. I was excited to try this place because of the good reviews that I previously saw on Yelp. Our server was nice but did the bare minimum. Ordered our appetizer and entrees and still took 50 minutes to get our appetizer out, while others who had sat down well after we ordered were already eating their meal. Maybe she forgot to ring it in because she was on her phone half of the time at the computer in plain sight. Ordered the bottomless brunch and we had to wait an average of 20-30 minutes for a refill. Right at 3PM she magically appeared the pick up our glasses without a word- no apologizing for not being able to get to us in a decent amount of time. Never checked back and asked how the food was during our meal. Only saw her the two times she refilled the mimosas, picked up our glasses/plates and asked if we were ready for the check (all without a word) even when I said thank you, no response. Tried to make the best out of the lukewarm food I received, but after spending over 100 for unwelcoming and slow service, I don’t think that I will be back. Also reached out to management prior to posting this review and did not receive a response.
When my friend asked if we could sit outside (it wasn’t busy), the server’s response was “I would have to go look.” Which apparently meant no? Ambiance was fine, no issues there. Food came out very slow. The potatoes were so salty that no one at our table could eat them. The chicken biscuits were delicious, but everything else was just ok. With all of the other much better options in DC, I won’t be back.
I love that Homestead has a Monday brunch. I work from home and often take meetings or catch up with friends then. The food never disappoints and neither does the service. For a holiday it was steadily busy but the service was still fine. Desi was great and extremely personable. This is my 3rd time going for brunch and I'm looking forward to trying out dinner soon!
Service was a little slow that day due most likely to people calling out on a long holiday weekend but other than that it was good.
Staff just couldn’t get mms it together.
Great neighborhood gem that serves really great food!
As someone who has worked in hospitality for many years, I was pleasantly surprised by all Homestead had to offer. The menu has many delicious twists on traditional and popular American fare. The staff was amicable and welcoming. I had the privilege of meeting two members of their management team who were not only extremely professional and accommodating, they were all in — helping their team and ensuring every table was having a memorable experience. Will return!
Outstanding meal! Great service and the food was absolutely delicious - it was restaurant week so our table went for the special 3-course options, and my chicken and waffles for dinner did not disappoint.
Me and my friend went here to eat last minute after a long day of running errands. First, we were pretty hungry so my disdain for the experience may have a little to do with that. Good news, our waiter was great. He was friendly and very accommodating. He felt bad for the slow service and cold food. Because of the disappointing experience we were not charged for our food. I'm satisfied with the restaurant trying to make up for the experience, however, I think they need more help. The restaurant isn't that big and it wasn't that busy the evening we visited.
The food at Homestead is so good! Their bread is made fresh daily right down the street, and most of their ingredients are local. The only downside was that the service was a little slow- it took about 40 minutes to get food for three and the restaurant was not full. We also had to ask more than once for drink refills. This drawback is not enough to keep me from returning though. The food is worth it.
Great cocktails. Friendly helpful staff. I was there for lunch, but I would go for dinner.
My husband had the ribeye, which was amazing. I had the meatloaf which had good flavor but was dry.
Very slow service.. and the food was a bit less than average. Modifications were forgotten.. I was excited to come but over all disappointed.
The food was very good and I would enjoy eating the it again. However, it is so loud (tables close to each other, lots of hard surfaces) that I won't likely return.
By far one of my faves in DC. The Monday brunch is so genius and is usually when I like to go because it's not crazy. This place is an institution in Washington and it won't be going anywhere anytime soon!!
A good space, not too crowded for such a small restaurant. Decent food, but maybe not worth the price. I was disappointed to realize that the hot chicken wasn't Nashville hot chicken, just fried chicken with hot sauce. Really enjoyed our cocktails though and the honey biscuits are great!
The catfish lafeyette was excellent! We also ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, however one piece was undercooked and inedible. The manager was very apologetic and offered a new entree. Our waiter was great! Loved the ambience!
Came here because the original place we had reservations for was overcrowded. They were able to sit us immediately & provided excellent service. I got the French toast sandwich & it did not disappoint. All in all a nice brunch was had by all.
Delicious! Would go again
They are amazing Talia is an amazing server the best tI have ever had!
Great service and appreciated being given the option to sit outside on a beautiful day. The food was good, not great. Too much seasoning on the potatoes and under-cooked eggs Benedict, but not so bad as to warrant sending back or not returning. We will certainly be back. Highly recommend the brunch cocktails.
Food, Drinks and Bartender Dee were Great. Introduced us to new drinks.
Experience was fabulous, as usual; I do have to say that the portion size of the sweet potato gnocchi is extremely small, with very little substance. So if you’re spending the $18 for the plate, be sure to mentally prepare for a very small portion size.
We never got served. We had a 7:00pm reservation and arrived at about 7:05. There seemed to be many empty available tables and it did not seem to be very busy at all. After they sat us down we waited 20 minutes with no water or any one stopping or even noticing us, so we left. When we left, the person who seated us told us to have a good evening and did not question why we were leaving so soon or if anything was wrong or if anyone had been by the table, and that was about it.
It was a poor experience. hope we just happened to be there on a bad day.
Before even ordering we were told there was a forty minute wait because the kitchen was so backed up. We said that was fine and tried ordering the bottomless mimosas but were told that ends at 3 (we were there at 2:30). We ended up leaving and going to the coupe instead.
