Holts Café - Bloor Ratings and Reviews
Holts has cut back on staff so drastically it has ruined dining experience.
Waiting staff struggles to serve clientele but they are overwhelmed.
Those waiting on us were tremendous & did a great job.
But since Holts has cut their hours their shift ended before we finished dinner.
We were left saying thank yous & goodbyes to the credit card machine.
How does Holts management expect to attract exclusive clientele with its fast food mentality?
Was my first time. We were by the window and it was very cold. Ordered the most expensive glass of Chardonnay... it was musty, sent it back and the waiter replaced it with a nicer glass but charged me for both, in error. We shared the cheese plate as an appetizer--cheese was hard and cold, and pretty tasteless, bread was overly dry but chutney and mustard seed was nice. We didn't finish it. I had the BLT salad which was really good, except the pancetta was so overcooked--hard and inedible. My friend had the chicken pot pie.. which looked amazing--like a soufflé with a side of fries--she loved it. No dessert... but jasmine tea.. pot of water was barely half full--and my friend had a coffee which she said was very good. Not rushing to go back, but I think it's worth another try. If you go in the winter, don't sit along the wall of windows.
We ordered the Chicken Pot Pie which was delicious and more than enough. Unfortunately, although we intended to stay for dessert and coffee, the level of noise made it so uncomfortable that we decided to leave and find a quieter place to finish our lunch. There is nothing in the café to absorb the noise which makes it difficult for conversation.
We arrived an hour early for our reservation as we had attended the exhibit at the ROM and my friend wanted to dine earlier. We were offered accommodation on the couches which was fine. We both had the eggs benedict (with smoke salmon) a long time favourite of mine. The food was delicious and the service was excellentl
I always meet up with friends in Holts if we see meeting downtown as it's a great place to catch up with EXCELLENT unobtrusive but attentive service. I seem to face been "served" by the same waiter each time over the years and he has it down to an art form.
The brunch tartine is a triumph and I'm afraid to say that I have this every time
Note to Holts Cafe management / never take this off the menu - it's been there for years and I love it
Also if you are able to work out from the bookings that say which waiter served us, please give him a huge pat on the back. My pal always has very high expectations of servers and these were exceeded to the point where she actually commented how great the service was
My daughter and I have a birthday lunch every year.. it is always good and the service is good
We would love to sit in a different location other than the two seaters in the middle which is what we usually get
We will be back and we would recommend the restaurant
One of the top 5 worst burgers I’ve ever had. Fortunately for the restaurant, I was with clients and didn’t want to make a stink.
Their chef should be ashamed of how they not only cooked the burger, but allowed it to come out of the kitchen looking like it was delivered by UberEATS from a fast food place.
Not worth $5 much less the $19 on the bill. Also, $3.50 a piece and no refills for a Diet Coke out of the fountain is a disgrace.
Disappointed in the vibe on this visit. Just a day after the 180th anniversary of the company, today’s visit was a let down and a far cry from the civility of Montréal.
Two cities, to opposites in Service experiences. Refills for sodas should be standard, here they weren’t. Transparency is lacking in pricing.
First time I ever went to Holts Cafe and I would definitely go back! Service was superb, we were there celebrating a birthday and they gave my friend a complimentary dessert with a candle in it, which was very thoughtful and I was most appreciative. We were in a bit of a hurry and the waitress was excellent about suggesting which options would be quicker and she made a point of helping us keep track of time. The food was excellent, and it was presented beautifully as well. I'll be back, with more time to spend next time!
This was my first time here and I thought the space was wonderful. Due to the variety of seating arrangements, we were able to be seated in a location that allowed us to have meaningful conversations.
Our servers were professional with a touch of humour . I really enjoyed the choices of healthy drinks. The food was excellent.
I will certainly return.
Two saleswomen from the store hovered over the guests next to us and didnt stop talking in such loud voices that we couldnt hear each other. One sat on the bench beside my guest for almost the entire meal.
As well the waitress was too present.
It wasnt an experience id want to repeat. No sign of a manager either
not quite as good as it has been
service was better in past visits as female staff more attentive and not disappearing to the back room
I ordered a double expresso with milk and got cold milk , on complaining it was replaced
I usually have the chicken pie but found this time the chicken content appeared to have been reduced. ??
Will continue to visit but expect improvement
Dined comfortably with our 10 month old. The couches were very comfortable and easily accommodated 3 adults and a baby with stroller. The tables however were slightly wobbly when cutting our food. Service was excellent - personable and friendly. Fast but not rushed service.
I went there for a winterlicious lunch with my girlfriend. I understand that my expectations need to change given the volume of people attending but even with lower expectations we were underwhelmed. Some of the hot dishes was served borderline cold. We both asked for steak medium rare and got something well done. Service was respectable but we did wait a while for our food. Noise level was too much for my liking. Overall I went once and wouldn't go back.
I've come here twice now, and although there were some Winterlicious mishaps the first time around, I came back the second time outside of Winterlicious and found it to be like night and day. Both times, the service was pretty good -- a little bit slow but still attentive, and checking up just enough. The food we had off their regular menu was delicious. I had the duck rillettes for my starter, and my partner had the arctic char (marinated like tuna tartare). Both were very good. But my main blew me away -- miso-marinated black cod that was cooked perfectly. The fish was so tender and just flaked away, and flavoured so well. The fried sticky rice was also interesting, as it mimicked the fried rice that gets crispy at the bottom of a bibimbap. My partner got the Wellington County flat iron steak, and it was perfectly done to medium (as he had asked for). We also sat in the loungey portion of the cafe, which has long couches along the back. A bit weird to be eating fancy meals on a couch, but also kind of fun. Would come back for sure!
